Definately can't see us sign him then, they're insane wages, even if he played all of madrids games last season they'd still be nuts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,333 ✭✭✭bad2dabone

Agree, but can you see him coming down to the 55k Song was on or even 70k?

nope, and if I was him i'd sit at madrid on those wages and try to get into the team there.
I doubt if he's on those wages though, as 'pool wanted him too and pool turned Siggurdson away cos of wage demands that were less than excessive (relatively speaking seeing as how he's gone to spurs with their 70k cap)

OK I smell some Bull**** here.
First the player wanted to come to Arsneal, now they are arguing over the option to buy, but at the same time Arsenal are now not going to pay him what he wanted?
That makes no sense at all. Id say the deal is done with the player its just Real Madrid wont offer the player to Arsenal next year.
Then again, who the **** knows?

I'm sorry but The Daily Mail is terrible for football transfers.
Especially when it comes to Arsenal's.

I'd say the deals done just like Podolski's was and the papers are making up bull.

Does everyone remember when Podolski's talks had stalled with us and he was seemingly then off to Latzio.

Edit: Also Sahin is on around 80-90K a week I think.

I call bull**** on the mail on this one, all reliable twitter sources are saying it's done dusted, photoshoot has been done, it will be announced soon don't let that rag rattle us

    Jamie Sanderson ‏@YoungGunsBlog

"Terms agreed with Nuri Sahin. Arsenal still talking details with Madrid late last night. Club had hoped to announce it by now. "

So player is ready to leave, just Madrid not giving into an option to buy i reckon. Wouldn't say it has anything to do with wages.

Its just the Mail looking for so ad money. If his wages were on the scale then Arsenal would have pulled out of a deal before it even begun!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,783 ✭✭✭emergingstar

Deal is done player had his photos done yesterday
Last haggling is about the buy option
But deal will go ahead either way

How do you guys feel about the squad as it is + Sahin for the rest of the season?

I don't follow any team in the EPL and I would love to see Aresnal mount a title challenge this season and to get one over this United team who in my opinion will struggle in the mid-field this season.

What's the latest on Jack can anyone tell me? When is he expected to return? :pac:

RE his wages. If there's no "buy" option I could see Real paying part of his wages. It would be pretty good to have him for the Stoke game. Himself, Arteta & Cazorla pinging long passes would shift their classic "slow the ball" tactics.

Who starts as CF for the weekend I wonder? I'd have my money on Giroud for his size and strength. Also, will Diaby start this weekend? To play it safe, probably not.

Jack back in October, apparently. I've not heard that before though :)
if he's back in october i think it'll be december before he's something like his old self.

What did people think of Diaby at the weekend?

    Arseblog - Wilshere

He's expected to return sooner than expected. Hopefully before November, it wouldn't be nice to play catch up just before Christmas.

I think we're pretty sound so far, with Sahin's signing and one more for defence. The rumour of Mbengue seems pretty sound and he would be a good acquisition once he can hit the ground running as we're pretty much started now.

There's a lot of talk that we need another striker, tbh I think we're OK. We have Giroud & Podolski. A lot of our work will be from midfield and the wing so we're pretty much covered in that part.

Defence is a little low in the centre, to have one more experienced CB would be great. Miquel needs more experience, a stint on loan with another PL club would be ideal so he can get a lot of game time. He shows some serious promise.

With regards to Utd, it's way to early to write them off. They could probably do with another creative midfielder. Anderson doesn't cut it for me and tbh they need someone to fill in for Scholes as well. But, it's pretty much the same squad as last year and having watched last night's game they pretty much need someone that can force the ball into the box and provide more for the strikers.

For a guy that's found more minutes in the last month than thre previous two seasons I think he's done well. He's thrown himself into tackles and hasn't held back. It'll take him a bit of time but he's shown great promise of success so far, though I have fingers, toes and arms crossed that he doesn't get injured. He deserves a lot more than having to spend months in physio. Maybe some of Van Persie's tonic will set him up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,333 ✭✭✭bad2dabone

Yeah I thought Diaby played very well and I'm hoping that he stays injury free, he's certainly got the talent, if only the body holds up. Ramsey looked fairly dynamic when he came on too.
With Sahin coming in I don't think we'll really miss Song.
We should really be challenging in the league this year and definitely the FA Cup.

Any word on Wilshere's future yet?

Mbengue sounds good, put he plays the wrong side of the field to what we actually need imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,713 ✭✭✭keano_afc

We dont need another left back, so the acquisition of this Mbengue lad seems strange to me.

Not quite confirming that Arsenal are buying M'Vila but it seems they are interested at least.
Only problem is that if Rennes don't budge on their price then there is probably not much of a chance for us to meet their valuation.

Ramsey has really grown in confidence, from what I saw of the Olympics he was probably the best player on the GB squad. He holds the ball well, makes the clever pass and his stats for possession are pretty good.

Domestically we should be challenging for everything. We have the numbers (defence being the exception).

Full backs, I do think we need a proper defensive LB. Santos is good but would be better deployed along the wing/LM role. His tackling can be comedic at times and with the squad we have now, we don't need that for the intense games. We do need an RB for the time being but when Sagna comes back we're pretty much covered unless there's another freak injury. To break your leg twice in one season is just horrible, it's a prime example of Murphy's law. I was impressed with Jenks at the weekend and from pre-season. Though senior EPL experience is what he's lacking but so far he's done well, but that's so far. To play week in-week out in his position and with the way we play is a lot of responsibility for someone of his age. I've been singing about Van der Wiel for the past 3 seasons and he would be perfect for us.

Santos being deployed LW wouldn't be a bad ploy in games where we needed to be a little more cautious.

No way Gregory van der Wiel will sign for us to sit on the bench. Yes, you'd love an experienced RB in there but maybe we should be giving Jenkinson and Yennaris the chance - one of them could turn out to be another [pre Chelsea] Ashley Cole.

That's pretty much what I'm thinking right now and I can only see a replacement if it's dire straits. Both should be more than able to commit to the position and again, when Sagna returns it'll bring more consistency to the position. We could only sign him if we didn't have Sagna and offered good wages to boot as well. I think AC were in for him a few months back.

Santos would be perfect on the wing. He's eager to shoot from outside, has a mean shot on him and is not afraid to come in centre. Some thing I pretty much **** my pants at last year when he was LB. I think he'll be a lot more adept at a defensive position in midfield/wing rather than at full back. Gibbs was immense at the weekend also, so it's going to be hard to shift him.

    Noooooooooooo.

    Too optimistic.

Our squad is good enough but they need time playing together.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,232 ✭✭✭meriwether

Sahin's in the bag lads, they're just tidying up stuff at this stage.

I hope we press- and get- an option to buy.

He's a brilliant singing either way.

I expect to se Arteta and Diaby share the defensive duties, then Sahin ahead of them, with a choice of Cazorla, Ox, Jack as the third of the mid three.

Rosicky can do a DM job too, and Ramsey can play for Sahin.

I happen to think Cazorla could really bring the best out of Walcott this year.

Diaby seems to be deployed in a more attacking midfielder type role I thought, don't think we'll see him playing deep with Arteta.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,608 ✭✭✭✭cson

Diaby hasn't got the positional awareness to play any tangible defensive role in midfield.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,579 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

If we don't have an option to buy on Sahin it's fúcking embarrassing.

Get another striker in and tell Theo he either signs or packs his bags within the next week and it's a reasonably ok-ish summer. Yes we've lost two of our best players (again) but at least this time we did some investing in the squad.

That's all Darren Dein's clients gone form the club now too. I really hope we make it a prerequisite for any players signing for us from now on that we just won't deal with them if he's their agent.

This. Just because he looks like the bastard love child of Will Smith and Patrick Vieira it doesnt mean he's a defensive midfielder. It would be suicide if we deployed him as a back 4 screen. Bloody hilarious, but disasterous.

IOts not good enough to win the title, but its good enough to win the FA cup, and get to the last 8 of the CL.
