sorry to hear that but at least now you know and can take precautions. Best think to do you be to learn as much as possible about the role insulin plays in our bodies and learn how to read food labels. How, study and research.

I know several people who had very good results from a paleo lifestyle, weight training and some cardo. As with a condition like this measure and record everything and see what works for you. This should be done with alignment with your doctor but be ready for them to laugh at you when you mention paleo. :)

Hey, I am a type 1 and know what you mean about hidden sugars and all that jazz. As the above poster said read up on what insulin actually does to you and how it works and tha will help you a lot. Also look up low GI foods, there are loads and loads of lists on the internet and you will find them easy enough.

A good weight/cardio mix will really help control the bloods. I generally go to the gym for an hour at 6am before work and will have my breakfast along with insulin at 9ish and then i wont really need insulin again until the evening, my body just seems to not spike during lunch because of the gym. I know this because on days when i dont gym it up i need extra insulin around lunch time.

In terms of food, its all about the wholegrains now my friend wave goodbye to white bread and crusty rolls ( this was the hardest thing for me to do) and white rice. Get a glucometer if you werent given one already and just test your bloods before and after meals and certain foods and you will see which ones cause you to spike and which ones dont. Food protein rich like meat wont cause spikes, wholegrain rice and potatoes cause a slower rise in sugars (as in over hours as opposed to minutes) which is good. veg dont really seem to cause me any spikes and some fruits do and some fruits dont its all about experimentation really.

But definitely at in a bit of cardio each day and it really helps to control it.
