Jaysis, all on one CD, that's scary! If I had to sit down and think of a collection of artists that I hate more, I'd be hard pressed, maybe I'd take the Black Eyed Peas from CD 2 and stick them into the first CD to complete the rogues gallery.

If you like electronic music, even if you hate euphoria/trance (because let's face it, most of it is awful), I find it's not the worst thing to exercise to. There is a reason they called some of the hands in the air stuff "euphoria"...

    System 7 - Hinotari

    Art of Trance - Swarm

    Binary Finary - 1998

    Or some progressive house/trance
    Sasha - Xpander

Now That's What I Call Running!! ...Jesus christ 95% of that wouldn't personally wouldn't give me the drive to even run 100 yards, thats just a silly mish mash to cash in on the Olympics that was prob compiled by a few fat lads that never ran in their life. Me personally being mainly into rock/metal can't beat heavy guitar & drums pounding you on and on. Currently running to the likes of Mastodon,Opeth,Rob Zombie,David Bowie & The Rolling Stones.

Saw the ad for that the other day and it struck me how awful it was. It reminded me of 101 Running Songs which I picked up from somebody which is as brutal and pollutes my mp3 player as I have yet to get around to removing it.

I'm not sure if this is the version I have on my phone but I find the music from the counter-strike music video "Hard Clan - Die Hard" is pretty motivational.

Works pretty good at any of the changeover points if I get it at the start of a nice downhill.

Have noticed that those 'Running Collections' haveproliferated quicker than Nuclear Missiles in the cold war! In my eyes all theyare is another psychological barrier/excuse not to go running! (Don’t mean totake anything away from the effort of posting it above - thank you very muchfor doing so.)

    Found some gems tho:
Michael Bolton - How can we be lovers (Genius - Dont dare slag!)

Feeder - Come Back Around (and pretty much anything on therocky side of feeders back catalogue)

Rolling Stones - Sympathy for the Devil (Genius)

    but one absolute GEM is:

Mystery Jets - The Hail Bop!! You feel like your Tigger fromwinnie the pooh running with it - eating up the miles so i was!

    How can one not slag?

I can only assume it helps running if you imagine you are running away from your ears! ;)

And yet, bizarrely, better then 95% of the running compilation mentioned above!

You can't beat a bit of Jon Bonjovi IMO.

The cheese factor always makes me smile and when your battling over those last few km/miles a smile is the perfect escape from the pain!

Also, find me a better guitar solo from that era!?

Nathan Fake and James Holden...even if you don't like the music, the men can think of the video...though probably takes a couple of minutes to get into a cadence that might suit running...

Was running this evening and I listen to rock / metal, anything with a really solid beat. Having read the thread earlier I was thinking about the songs and then . .

Highway Star came on. Anything like this is perfect for me running, and at 7-8mins long is great for tempo sessions.

Have been loving this of late (Thanks Triple J hottest 100!), not a fan of hip-hop / rap usually but "found" this on the web ;)
    360, Running alone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSXr05hHl1I
And an old favourite from a few years ago: (Was featured in a great kitesurfing video)
Hilltop Hoods, Recapturing the vibe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7zqJtpEoLo
A bit slower but nice to run to:
The Notwist, One with the Freaks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qI0prZWmxQk&feature=related
I also go all back to the oldskool from time to time:
    Human Resouces, Dominator http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dohzrXT09w
    &
Age of Love http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3nJr8NpoVM (Weird video)
And for now closer to proper music:
British Sea Power, Be Gone http://www.youtube.com
    /watch?v=4ucC4FG4w_Q

I've a pair of 11hr playlist on ipod that I rotate and put on shuffle for every run, seldom hear the same thing on consecutive days.

I cant listen to anything too "Dancy", Iif I do ill cover the few miles far to quickly with all the excitment.
I rather something a little slower.
Depeche Mode, the Cure, Bruce Springsteen, or 2fm radio and usually over to my Floorfillers album for some 90's dance when things are getting tough towards the end of the run.

Skrillex makes my ears bleed with his dance pop.

Anyway, I can settle this thread. I present (the free), 1980's Action Movie Mixtape. Bloodsport, Karate Kid, Rocky, Kickboxer and MONTAGES.

    and part two.

Personally, I listen to BBC's essential mixes. http://m.soundcloud.com/das-boy/sets/essential-mix/

Anything from the Rocky Training Montages (because everyone needs a montage) and then a bit of Kasabian - Club Foot and Fire :-)

I find Goa Trance to be perfect if you need a running boost. Has the perfect beats per minute level for running.

Guns n Roses - Paradise City was a big help on my run last night.

The most HTFU song ever when you're feeling like quitting - Mannish Boy by Muddy Waters.

    Anything from The Prodigy

    Going the Distance by Cake

    vindaloo by Fat Les

To reiterate, most trance is utter ear gouging crap, but some of the better stuff is great running music.

Here is another classic. It's cheesy, but as the dj died a few years ago, it seems to be more appreciated...

Oh and Skillrex (I prefer to call him Sonny Moore) is appalling! "Hey man, who threw the can, it's like soooooo not cool man!"

If you like trance then an album called "Hands to heaven" is the best. I used to listen to it rowing in the gym and you would really go for it. Gonna try it again today for a speed session. Havin't listened to it in years.

Just checked it out. Some of it is a bit commercial/cheesy. On the other hand, I like stuff like that DB Boulevard hit in the late 90s, and System F's "Out of the Blue".

Totally agree too but the tempo is perfect unlike lots of other music that has long lead in times starting off slow and the building up. Personally I listen to podcasts like marathon talk most of the time but would be interested on what effect this music would have on an 8 mile tempo run I have today which I should have done yesterday ;)

used to get me sweating back then for different reasons.

The trick would be to get the perfect candence so every time the foot hits the ground you say "ootza"!

    Ootza ootza ootza ootza...that's trance!

I recommend 2manyDJ's - as heard on radio soulwax. Time and time again has proven the perfect collection for a one hour run... Followed closely by either of Guns n Roses use your illusion albums - in particular 'get in the ring'

just read scott jureks book 'Eat and Run' and he recommends music that is either 180 or 90 bpm - based on the fact that an efficient stride rate is 90 steps with each foot per minute. Would be nice to get a playlist together of 90/180 bpm tunes ...

Ideal cadence for running co incides with Don Henly Boys of summer and
    dancing with myself- Billy Idol.
Might not be cup of tea but helpful for cadence training:D

I found this helpful for a fast footwork interval session the other day:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHyrmbfN86A Damien Dempsey, Party on. (The album version is faster but couldn't find it on youtube.) :o

Also have this on the playlist as well, I always enjoy listening to this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OznS7X9BOxs Focus, Sylvia. There's no rock like prog-rock

I've actually been Researching this is a big way , I usually just stick random playlist on on my phone as I run and skip songs using the bluetooth headset. I've found that some songs aren't suited to running . if they start off slow / have a very long intro /are quite repetitive or dramatically change tempo throughout the song.

so over the past week I've been thinning down my playlist and out of two thousand or so songs tapered it down to less than 100. then I organised them with respect to Bpm and have run into a bit of a problem., I run a tracking app as I run and look at the split times . I'm consistently slowest 3/4 of the way through my run. Slowest splits on the 3rd Km of a 4km run , 5th of a 7km run etc.
Do people try to build the pace throughout the run or keep it relatively consistent? just wondering how to build the playlist up with regards to pace setting?

I listen to some snow patrol at the start, then some old stuff
Snap - Rhythm is a Dancer

    OMD - Enola Gay
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01SBf0tsLyI
And finally during the warm down walk some
Vangelis - Chariots Of Fire (I know very very cheesey, its a feel good thing for me;))

I thought that your cadence should be the same regardless of how fast or slow you run ~180-190 approx and that its the stride length that changes? I was a bit confused to see that there are different bpm's correlating to pace.
Have I got this all wrong , or the cadence thing less significant than I thought ?

I was running in the forestry behind the house a while back, right near the top there is a section where the trees are dense and it always cool and shaded there.(slightly spooky at times, always feel like the tree spirits are watching.
The below rammstein song came on and I got goosebumps during the intro, fastest uphill km ever! :o
Had to listen to some Katy perry just to get back down without bricking myself.
    Good tune to run to:
