I would go to this but €25 is abit steep for an in house competition, sure the Premier Irish BJJ championship was only €30 to enter and the irish open was €25.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61 ✭✭steviemac

Well said €20 would be loads to enter

I think 25€ is a reasonable price, plus its a round robin style tournament so your not looking at paying €30 and only getting 1 fight.

what rules are you going to be using? what happens in the event of a draw?

The price doesn't relate to the number of fights, it should be representative of the quality of competition.

I agree, but you do often hear people complaining that they paid so much and only had 1 fight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 417 ✭✭youllneverknow

fair enough its round robin and people will have more then 1 fight but €25 for an inhouse competition that doesnt have to worry about hiring mats or renting a venue is steep

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 532 ✭✭✭Spideog Rua

There was a competition in a Dublin gym last year which was €15 and double elimination. Got a great turnout too.

I think €25 is too expensive and as such i will not attending this. I understand pricing and breakeven points, but there comes a point when you are simply taking advantage.

If anyone from the IBJJA reads this, could the advise when the next competition will be? They have run one competition this year, and that's simply not enough.

Given Spartan's track record of quality competitions plus the fact that it's a round robin tournament €25 euro is fine.

We need more comps in Ireland and Spartan are obliging.

Also their comps run on time, always have good referees and generally get a good turnout. Can't see the problem.

I agree. We do need more comps and ive been at the Spartan ones and they run fine. 25euro seems ok to me and we will be supporting this and i may drag my own big ass onto the mats too :D

I can only talk for my club but travelling to a venue and then paying 25 euro is a hard sell for me to my lads.

I think in an age where lads can Box, fight MMA, do kick-boxing for free then paying to do submission wrestling is a hard sell, even harder when its in house and the rent bills ain't there to justify the price.

10 euro to me would be a token gesture and may get more participants and probably make for a better competition and probably more money too.

I think clubs who do the MMA league regular may be more used to paying to fight but clubs who mainly go on shows and don't pay will struggle to get lads to cough up

If you and another competitor put those 25 quid together you could get a brazzer for that, thats all im saying.

Could you expand on Spartans tracks record of quality competitions ie how many competitions have they run and how many competitos are they getting at each?

In either case, €25 is too expensive.

Competitions are far better on saturdays in my opinion, Will many people interested in competing even know what a low kick show is? I know I certainly dont.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 135 ✭✭Bres

We may postpone this comp then, I don't want it to conflict with another show. I would prefer the Saturday but there are club gradings that day :(

why not the Saturday after and lower the price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 437 ✭✭reganreggie

The saturday the 8th has both battlezone6 and the no gi cup, then you have the rumble in rush the 22nd.

Just for the record i dont have any problem what so ever and my show is a junior kickboxing show anyway so i dont see it conflicting at all guys.

Saturday afte then. Its not exactly rocket science to pick a day that doesnt conflict with an other show

The UK Premiership BJJ Championships are gonna be on in Newcastle on that day, it'll only cost around 80 euro to go so you might not get much of a turnout on that day

Il be at the premier championships, have it earlier in september

    Hope the comp goes well.

€20 is very expensive for a run of the mill comp and above all the weight divisions aren't really appealing!

    "Weight divisions

I presume 84 is actually 94kg, and in my opinion the weight categories are fine.

What's wrong with IBJJF weight categories? Also, why no advantages?

thanks for the well wishes, 20 euro is the lowest we can do with covering the cost of medals and medics etc

the weight divisions are ibjjf standard weight divisions so we did not come up with them

we want to try encourage people to finish fights or win by points really not advantages, also it makes the referees job a little bit easier

What I mean is I think 84kg is too low for the final division before open weight. They're not really IBJJF weight divisions as the IBJJF has a few more above 84kg before open.

looks like a typo to me, 82,88,94,open

this site has 82,88,94,100,open so it looks like they have missed off 100kg and made a typo on the last. no biggie

Are you using IBJJF rules and IBJJF qualified referees? If so, advantages shouldnt really be a problem.

How will a fight be decided if it's level on points after time runs out?

the referees are qualified yes, and we are using the ibjjf rules but without advantages

since we are doing a round robing if a fight is a draw on points each competitor get 1 points, the winner is decided by who has the most points at the end
