White - A Loire Chenin Blanc
    Red - Syrah

    Is what I'd go for.

White - Albarino or Verdejo or a Sauvignon Blanc that has a bit of body to it. If the budget will stretch go for a good Chablis (€18 ish)

Red - Stick with French, something with big tannins. Cab sav or a youngish (2009) Bordeaux.
