Sorry I know there is a smilar thread regarding pigeon ammo but im looking for more general purpose ammo. Basically I want to stock up for next season, I shoot ducks, phesant, magpies etc and go at the crows sometimes for a bit of practice so im not shooting more than a half dozen
boxes in the year! I generally shoot 6s! What do you guys think is the best cartridge out there? Back in the day it was all eley, then all I could get was remington, these days its all italian brands some of which are fairly dirty! I shot sipe last year and thought they were ok what about RC2's. Also are 6s enough for phesant if you miss with the first shot and he's gone out a bit?

Eley supergame 32g 6 is a great all round shell for everything. Used it last year shooting pheasant, duck, crows, pigeon, magpies, rabbits and it will even knock a fox if he sticks his head up when out within range.

I had 32g 6 for the first, 32g 6 for the second and a 34g5 as the third in my shotty but I never fired the third. your choke will suit different loads better, If I had a o/u id prob use a 34g 6/5 as the second shot.

You may want heavier loads if you are going out specific for duck as a lot of them will be higher than pheasant but 32g 6 works if you are out for pheasant and come across duck.

I had some fiocchi too and didnt like them.

For ducks you need 4's or 5's tops. I found that the 6's wasn't taking them down only knocking some feathers out of them. 6's are good for soft birds like pheasants. Eley are hard bet

I swear buy eley 32g 7 VIP or 6 very hard hitting. But 11 euro a box

I used rc3's in number 8 s 2 years ago for the first of September and dropped 8 mallard with them. There were 2 other lads wit me and they got 7 between them using 4 s and 5 s. So I strongly recommend these shells too

+1 on the sipes for me the best all rounder in size 5 rabbit duck pheasent crows pigeon woodcock without any problems snipe and foxes would be a bit iffy but not out of the question

Wouldn't imagine much left of a snipe after a few 5's hit it.

Fiocchi pl34's in 6 shot are an absolute gem of a shell for duck and pheasant and any other game out there!! i couldnt fault them and a great pattern...
RC sipe would be a very close second

Veloux 7s 32g. Brilliant shell for everything except duck then use 5 36+g for duck and ul drop the highest flying ducks even when flighting them. But you also must select the correct choke for the hunting you are doing

i think this thread shows that everyone finds a shell there happy with and tends to stick with it .

Gamebore, Fiocchi and Sipe 32g 6's in that order would be my choice of cartridge for general purpose use for pigeon, pheasant, rabbit and the occassional hare. There's shag all ducks around my area so they're not much of an issue when it comes to cartridge choice.

I used Remington 8's for Woodocock, snipe and pheasant and have 34g 7 as my 2nd shot. For duck I normally used Remigton 6's have 34g probably get 36g if ur buying them and a 4 as my 2nd shot for them, hoping to get Remington 4's for nxt yr just using up stuff I have already bought.

GET A SLAB ON 34G6 AND SLAB OF TRAP CARTRIDGES AND UPUR AWAY ;)

I use 32 6's on every thing bar duck and fox, a 6 can send a bolting rabbit head over heels with good placement,
Fox in winter fours because I think the 4's pattern better and get through that winter coat.

Anyone remember Baikal cartridges they would either crack like thunder and explode your target or fart and fall out your barrel and you'd never know till you hit the trigger.

I've used GB for the last six or seven years! I don't know if they suit me or my gun or if its all in my head, but i have great confidence in them! 32g 6's for rough shooting and 36g 6's for the lake!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48 Staloejunior

    remington 7 34gram
    eley 4 34gram
and for the old fox an or grey crow an old Eley Alphamax always goes down well

Started off using Remington and eley, the last box of eley VIP 32g 6's cost me €12:50.

Then got a slab of GB 6's 32g as a present and now I use them all the time, I use the GB 00's on Charles. Find them an instant stoppers.

Hit this young lady on Saturday. One shot instantly stopped her.

Eleys are probably the best cartridge out there. But they are expensive.

So I changed to Nobel Sport they are around 50c to €1 cheaper. I find they are a good all rounder, availible in light/heavy and a range of shot sizes they burn quick and clean unlike other cheap ones.

Avoid the following--- Fiochi - Dirty slow burners.
Bornaghi - Not sure whats wrong but couldn't hit anything with them. Don't think the wads were
    opening.
