I commuted from Clondalkin (near Liffey Valley) for all of First Year and will probably have to do the same this year :/
But as long as you make friends with anyone with a spare couch on campus yer graaand ;)

In fairness Clondalkin isn't that bad. I commuted for 2 hours each way every day in first year!!

Commuting is a nasty nasty business, it scars you !! :P

It also seems to have it's own culture per say its so easy to tell the hard-line commuters on the train apart from the occasional users . Used to love doing that to keep me amused , that and also reading the metro ! :P

A little part of my soul died , though I used to commute to school for an hour before so I was a little bit used to it .

Was still the crappyist first year ever (prob went out like 5 times the whole year! ) and I spent alot of time sleeping in lectures cos I used to get up at 6am to be in for 9 and then would finish around 4/5 go to library and try get some work done , leave there around 9 arrive home about 11/12 get dinner and by the time I got to bed it was like 1/2

so yeah so glad I'm not doing that no more!!!! :D

Pretty sure it's Computer Science, Maths and Philosophy. Think it's new this year.

College in general screws up your sleeping pattern !

Staying up all night cramming or tying to finish an assignment and going out mid week and getting up for 9am lectures really messes things up!

Thankfully there is the quiet room and booths in the library for any good aul powernaps you may need :P

oh right, yeah afaik it is.... though what corelation does mah and philosophy have  ?!

When I seen it first I really thought it may have just been thinking in numbers, which really is math but there's already a degree for that so I knew it couldn't be that :P

Yeah that Computational Thinking course looks really cool and all but I don't understand it.. Philosophy doesn't really go with anything like ..

Anywho, does anyone know when 1st years should hear anything from NUIM re: orientation or that?

And I'm not too sure, the poster said "Computational thinking is about combining human creativity with the power of computers to solve problems."

These are the philosophy modules involved anyway:

It has philosophy because a main part of it is using computers to predict the outcome of real world events.

Its not regular philosophy, its about thinking about things in different ways so a computer can understand.

You use philosophy and maths to help computers do real world calculations.

For the guy earlier im doing MH203 comp sc and software but comp thinking was my first choice.

Are you getting that blasted Streamline bus? Just don't go on it hungover.. Been so close to getting sick on that bus. It seems to find every windy road and bad corner just to punish us after a night out.
I was only going home on it at weekends, not even commuting :P Maybe I'm just a bad student!

I commute from outside Drogheda... technically Meath but the post office hate me for it. Anyway, takes about 1 hour 45 or so, door to door, each way. I don't mind it. Can get some reading/sleeping done. Headphones are a must. The annoying thing is getting home close to 8 each night.
But then I'm comparing it to a previous 2 hour 45 commute for a few years. That wasn't even a little bit fun.
    Oh yes! Topic...

I think Café BonBon. It's opposite the shopping center.

They do caramel lattes in Bewleys, O'Briens (although their coffee is mank imo), Chill, the Costa Coffee upstairs in the Phoenix (the canteen). Basically most places that does coffee in Maynooth (and elsewhere) does them. As well as vanilla, hazelnut, mint etc. depending on what syrups they have. You can ask for the syrups to be added to hot chocolate too, om nom nom mint hot chocolate...

(I used to work in a coffee shop :p)
