This American football game will take place in the Aviva on the 1st Sept.... It will be interesting to see what traffic it brings.

    Any ideas?

Traditionally the Navy overfly the stadium before the match. Can we look forward to something I wonder? F18s?

Anything fixed wing with NAVY on it would be interesting for Dublin.

Excellent, application sent, I wonder how many people they are taking on it total.

I note the USS McHenry doesn't normally embark helo's, so I guess that puts paid to any flyover by US naval aircraft on the day.

USS Fort McHenry Departs Constanta, Romania

CONSTANTA, Romania (NNS) -- Dock-landing ship USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43) departed Constanta, Romania following the completion of Exercise Summer Storm 2012, Aug. 19.

Summer Storm is a combined amphibious assault exercise by U.S. Marines from the Security Cooperation Task Force Africa Partnership Station 2012 and Romanian sailors from the 307th Naval Infantry.

The exercise is part of the U.S. Navy's wider goal of continued Black Sea security and cooperation in the region.

"The exercise was an outstanding training opportunity for both the Romanian and American forces," said U.S. Marine 1st Lt. Matt Tharp. "It offered an opportunity to conduct a combined arms amphibious assault on a large scale, and offered both services the opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities."

During the exercise, U.S. and Romanian Marines and Sailors conducted explosive ordnance disposal and amphibious beach-landing training.

After the events, the Sailors and Marines enjoyed a chance to visit Constanta.

"We thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality and warmth of the Romanian people," said Cmdr. Eric Kellum, Fort McHenry's executive officer. "They have a rich and diverse culture."

This is the second time Summer Storm has taken place in Romania. The first exercise was in 2011.

Fort McHenry is currently deployed to 6th Fleet conducting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts.

On Wednesday, Grooms will supervise the move of anywhere between 30 and 35 huge trunks to a tarmac at the South Bend Regional Airport where an Airbus 330 will be waiting. Before the loading will commence, each trunk must clear customs.

    ........

Te'o and Eifert will be among the 100 or so large human beings boarding that Delta Airbus charter about 6:30 Wednesday evening. A manifest of 222 passengers is planned aboard the plane that can accommodate 298.

An awful lot of big American footballers getting double seats :p

Anyone know good places to go in Dublin? We're staying in the Westin in the City. I don't want to go to any tourist traps.
My cousins say that I have to go to the Palace Bar which is a 'real pub'? Anyone know about it? Is it near (or in) the city?

Great location(not that Dublin is a large city)
Palace Bar is directly across the street from the front door of your hotel,it is at the edge of the touristy/cultural/bar/restaurant area known as Temple Bar.
Also try Mulligans which is a 5 min walk away (opposite direction from Temple Bar)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,431 ✭✭✭✭smurfjed

Its kind of a contradiction to stay at the Westin in the center of the city and then say you want to avoid tourist traps :) Lots of bars are putting out the team colours, or colors if you prefer, so you will feel most welcomed. The bars in the Temple Bar area are renowned for high prices, so this is what i would consider to the "tourist trap" area, if you come out of your hotel and turn left or right, you will find bars that are more sensibility priced.

Cead Mile Failte..... Have a great weekend.

Yeah it was, you had to enter the names of the 5 people as you entered.

On another point, a mate of mine told me that they had planned a parachute jump over the stadium before the game, he heard recently that this is not going ahead. So looks like no aviation interest in the game tomorrow evening. Unless the C-40B is going to do a flypast?

As per your link, is that a 737-200 with a military code? Also did she come all the way across the pond, non stop?

Now if she did a non stop, whats going to happen on the way out, she can hardly be filled to the gills in Baldonnel and then take off, so will it be a fuel stop in SNN, just like the BA A319's?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,431 ✭✭✭✭smurfjed

Built for the U.S. Air Force, the 737-700 aircraft is equipped with equipment and capabilities that support a rapid response for global missions.

The C-40B is based on the Boeing Business Jet, and includes the following enhancements:

    * Updated avionics
    * 777-type flight deck with common-display system (includes liquid-crystal displays)
    * CFM56-7 engines (built by CFM International)
    o 27,300 pounds of thrust
o Higher cruise speed (0.78 to 0.82 Mach)
o Greater range (3,000 nautical miles)

We dont know where its destination is :)

It's a Boeing 737-700 (also known as BBJ) and in US Air Force service its known as the C-40 Clipper. According to another forum it came in from Farnborough.

The C-40 is more than capable of flying non stop from Baldonnel back across the Atlantic - it is after all a VIP transport designed for exactly that type of mission.

Id a similar query and emailed them. They confirmed that only persons whom were entered on the application page to attend with you will be permitted. Outside of that no one else will be permitted.

If so where would be the best place to meet them ? Im thinking of heading to Dub for the weekend anyway I suppose any of the pubs around the Aviva would be the top spots ,
If anyone has any info please get back to me , not really bothered with the game but its the people that interest me.
