Irelands chances in Nuclear War

I suspect that a kiloton weapon would be used on Dublin in terms of a nuclear exchange between Russia and the USA and a megaton yield used on Shannon, it being a conduit for US troops. Overall though Ireland would escape much blast damage, the skies may go black for decades and judging that the wind only blows from the east in country a couple of times a year, fallout from the destroyed UK would be minimal....

    These are my thoughts :)

That what to do in an emergency handbook had the same advice for every emergency; Close the windows, listen to the radio.

A colossal waste of money to show how shagged we'd all be :D

Fallout is those tiny dust particles thrown into the atmosphere.. irradiated because of the atomic blasts... you don't want to inhale any of these bad boys... you'ld die a horrible death in days... but like I said, the wind most likely won't be blowing from the east :)

I would be more concerned about an attack on Sellafield, it contains more Mox Plutonium than anywhere else on the face of this planet.

Russia? I think it's going to be China or Norht Korea, if anyone.

As regards our chances? Our chances would probably be nil, along with the ret of humanity.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I've always thought if it was to happen in the near future it would be in the middle east with Israel/Iran. Israel seem to be determined to stop Iran's nuclear program, Netanyahu has said even the US can't stop an Israeli pre-emptive strike if they chose to carry out one and if it did happen I can't imagine Iran would take kindly to it so there could be a regional conflict there and with Israel apparently holding nuclear weapons it could escalate quickly. It's unlikely all the same but if Israel's homesoil was threatened you never know.

Irelands chances in nuclear war would be the worst, I.E.. the fallout from britain waxed across the easterly winds with your hair falling out and finger-nails and the rest of you so we would have it really bad. To be honest if a nuclear war did happen on a major scale i'd rather the damn thing land on my head or close to it. I don't like the 'falling to pieces part'.

I seen all those tv warnings in the 70's, how we managed to make it this far I don't know, but we did.

An intelligent comment came from Ronald Reagan in the 80's regarding a situation of being attacked or if a malevolent force or peoples from outside our planet decided to attack us then all countries on earth would form together as one to fight the offender. I think this is what it will take for asshole governments around the world to form a peace alliance with other nations/states.

Well yes that might be true that Russia and USA might go to nuclear war if we were living in the 1940's after the cold war when both countries first tested and developed nuclear weapons, and yes there was that little thing in cuda in the 60's but it ant on the cards at all now. but as someone else pointed out, Israel nuke'n Iran is possible. U should really go back to ur cave its safe there.

My contingency plan for such an event consists of a bottle of painkillers, a bottle of vodka, a cigarette and a deckchair.

Go out, watch the sky turn that lovely blood red colour, admire the mushroom cloud while having a smoke, and start popping pills washed down with a nip of vodka. Just slip off into the wonderful world of an overdose while pissed. No mutation for me!

Honesty as sad as it is this is probably humanities only chance of proper survival (presuming we won) every country is so focused on the gathering of resources for their people until they need to realise its for humanity and not issuance American Chinese etc then were fcucked

Once your back is to the initial impact, you can watch that lovely cloud afterwards. Your retinas will be burned off otherwise. Then you can just kick back, and enjoy the show.

I think I'll watch Threads tomorrow, sure why not.

Who really cares? If there was a nuclear war between the US and Russia, we'd all be dead or else dying. Once those bombs start flying it's time to hug a loved one, jump on a man/woman you fancy.....or if you're like me, just bend over and kiss your ass goodbye. If the explosion doesn't get you, the fallout or the endless nuclear winter will.

Try reading "Down to a Sunless Sea" by David Graham. Was written in 1979 but still so scary.

Or watch When the Wind Blows.....made me cry when I saw it as a kid

You're thinking of Shannon airport, it's about 3.2KM long. Knock is only about 2.3KM long. You can land pretty much anything at Shannon, it was even an emergency landing site for the Space Shuttle.

To bring us up to date, We imo be more likely of a nuclear fallout from a Terrorist attack on Britain than an attack on our powerful country here, No one would dare attack us,sure doesn't everyone love us.

Dublin don't need to be bombed. If England gets it and the wind is blowing our direction at any stage, we're done.
Radiation clouds (= rain), spreading the ash of a burned England and all of Ireland soil alone is fcuked!
No food, eventually we starve and/or die of radiation poisoning from eating polluted goods.

Add to the fact that Windscale/Sellafield is probably a primary target just 90 miles away from our East coast and it is game over!

I doubt it some how. As mentioned before our airports could make us a target.
