Personal Bill of Rights

I'm doing some work right now to understand my difficult childhood and came across this fantastic list which I cut down to my own personal list. I'm the type of person who gets very uncomfortable with uncertainty so it really helps to have specific boundaries or limits that I can live by. Believe it or not, a lot of things on this list are not something I learned as a child. Thought it might be nice to share with anyone else who has had similar experiences as me.

Do you have any of your own?

    My list:

    1. I have a right to say no to anything when I feel I am not ready, it is unsafe, or it violates my values.
    2. I have a right to dignity and respect.
    3. I have a right to make decisions.
    4. I have the right to terminate conversations with people who make me feel put down and humiliated.
    5. I have the right not to be responsible for others’ behavior, actions, feelings, or problems.
    6. I have the right to make mistakes and not have to be perfect.
    7. I have a right to all of my feelings.
    8. I have a right to be angry at someone I love.
    9. I have a right to be uniquely me without feeling I’m not good enough.
    10. I have a right to be happy.
    11. I have the right to my own personal space and time needs.
    12. There is no need to smile when I cry.
    13. It is okay to be relaxed, playful, and frivolous.
    14. I have a right to make friends and be comfortable around people.
    15. I have a right to be in a non-abusive environment.
    16. I can take care of myself no matter what.
