Carb Cycling - weight loss plateau

    Hi All

Have reached a weight Loss plateau and have remained same weight for a while now.

I initially lost a stone walking and doing 2 aqua aerobics classes. Low G.I foods, protein, all the good stuff.

Decided to up the game in the exercise department. Bootcamp, Zumba, Bums and Tums and plenty of walking. Stuck with the low G.I, Gluten free and eating very sensibly.. have only lost 3lbs in four weeks that's with lots of cardio and eating well.

Have been told about carb cycling. i.e maybe four days low carb and one day of carbs so my metabolism/body is not used to one thing and is mixed up a bit therefore helping to lose weight.

Am 28, 5'3 and am 147lbs. (am not into serious training or anything as don't have the time but would like to be doing my 3-4 classes per week and maintaining my 1-2lb weight loss weekly I was experiencing before everything just stalled on me)

    Any advice appreciated. Thanks

(had this written when thought maybe best in the health/nutrition forms) sorry

Are you tracking calories? Can you tell us exactly how many you've eaten each day for the last month?

Well done on loosing a stone, it's hard to maintain the initial rate of weight loss unless something in your mix of nutrition and workouts changes (mostly nutrition). If your not doing any weight training sessions you might want to change your routine and swap them instead of some of if not all of your cardio sessions. Post up your daily nutrition and steady weight loss is much better then crash weight loss.

Here's my big problem with carb cycling - it requires incredible levels of discipline to do effectively. People think kcal counting is hard, but you generally eat the exact same each day. Try moving the goal posts daily and still trying to stay on top of things. Unless you're really "with it", it's just another fancy little diet trick that doesn't work.

    Hi :)

    Thanks for your response :)

Am now 6lbs down into my second stone. Perhaps is taking some time as I went through two pregnancies in a row.

I have signed up for a kettlebells course commencing early sept as I have heard fantastic reports about it. So that will be a weight based workout, one bootcamp and a full on cardio zumba class with plenty of walking.

I discovered too that I wasn't eating enough (woohoo, I have never had that complaint before ha ha) but since I have been making sure to get my GDA into me I have been losing the weight.

As the poster above advised, just best to stay on top of my game and forget the gimmicky crap.. :)
