I'd also be interested in finding out noddy.. My membership just expored for the Carlisle which is the ryanair of gyms and was in west park in tallaght before that which I much preferred but which is way pricier. I'm looking for a happy medium myself!

Swan is €30 a month including all classes. Regarding the pool there's been a problem with the movable floor and it's down to 15 metres from 25 until the end of the month when they hope to have it replaced.

Raw Condition Gym is about 4 minutes down the road from Swan Leisure.... different type of facility but might be worth checking out, PM me if you would like a free day pass :)

Swan Leisure is constantly packed, pool is overcrowded and not possible to use. When U are in the class you are putting your leg/ arm up and hitting the person next to U this is how packed it gets. Staff is ignorant and not helpful. Your emails/ letters to the management / staff are ignored. Avoid at all cost

Monkstown gym, near the TEK roundabout. Only 6 quid at the door, or thereabouts: and usually quite quiet during the day. Basic but perfectly adequate; clean, trained staff etc.
It's a little busier in the evenings, when they add 60 cent to the price, I think: but I've never found it too crowded to use and I go there all the time.
    Open from 6 a.m. I believe.

Its on the website as dlrleisureservices dot ie

Raw is a different kind of gym. It depends what you want. If you want body building and lots of mirrors then Raw is for you. Their cardio section is poor with only 6 (I think) treadmills. Also there is a couple of dodgey characters that go there (someone threatened my life there one day).
Also it is expensive enough at €399 for the year but as I said if you want body building it is second to none.
I'm currently in Flyefit on Baggot Street. There are tonnes of cardio machines with a smaller weights area and the annual fee is €280 so it has a more diverse clientelle than Raw.

    Shudda put the plates back!

Never encountered anyone hostile in there, to be fair. Way better atmosphere than I found in previous gyms I used.

Flyefit gyms are great , being open 24 hours is a major plus.
Prefer Macken street to Baggot street myself though.

    Raw is epic.

YF In Harold Cross is decent if you train in the mornings

That was probably me. I'm awful cranky when people don't put the weights back. :pac:

Never encountered anything like in Raw though. Maybe it's different because I'm a girl? But it's most friendly gym I've been in with staff and members both helping me out anytime I ask.

No he was definitely bigger than you and if i am honest he probably would have killed me. He was a big lad:D
Nothing to do with putting the weights back either. I was a model user who always stripped and wiped down the equipment when I was done with it.

Not doubting you but you please tell us more about this incident. A story like this deserves to be told. Why did this person threaten you?

My own experience in RAW was positive. There were a couple of ''characters'' who hung around the racks doing 1/2 squats and deadlifts from about 12 inches of plates. They were as rough as their technique but in general the gym users and particulary the staff were sound and helpfull.

Would agree with you completely. Staff were fine, facilities were fine for body building. This was the only hassle I had in the year of my membership.

What happened was I was going stretches before going on a treadmill over on the side near the high rings. There were 2 guys about 3-4 metres away from me doing something. One turned walked to about half a metre away and kept doing his thing (which was odd) and then he started backing up until he was pushing me. I said to him that maybe saying excuse me rather than pushing me out of the way would have been more appropriate.
He then lost the plot. Started shouting and threatening, wanting me to go outside with him where he was going to knock my head off.
One of the trainers saw what he was at and pulled him away. Talking to them later they said the guy is just a dick and has caused trouble there before (a bit of a loose canon).
Would have been a complete mismatch by the way. The guy has about 50Kg on me :pac:

It was probably one of the 'characters' you mention. He was a shouter who liked to slam down the weights when he was done :D
