Which is better for building muscle? Im thinking about giving up protein shakes for a few months and drinking more milk instead. Mostly fat free milk. What is your opinion?

Impossible to answer. Depends on the rest of your diet.

Assuming protein intake stays sufficient - milk as it is more kcal dense.

If you goal is building muscle then you should do with regular milk.
    Calories are what you need.

    Protein shakes.

    Milk is great.

Kind of hard to compare a powder with a liquid.

A litre of milk has what 33grams of protein - your protein powder has double that.

Nothing wrong with milk and if I were drinking milk which I do it is always full fat, used to be semi-skimmed but back to full fat and never skimmed as it is like water imo.

Somebody might work it out what is cheaper per gram of protein - milk or shakes?

Assume you get 3000g of protein from a 4kg tub and this costs €60.00 - so €0.66 for 33g which is roughly in a litre of milk?

I've seen milk for sale cheaper than that, plus you get the extra cals and micros. Protein powder can be useful if you have specific macro goals though, as even low fat milk is around 30/40/30 p/c/f.

I don't know how much a litre of milk actually is.

I know I buy only cravendale milk now as IMO it tastes much cleaner due to being filtered. I think this runs me £3 for 2x2litres so £0.75p per litre.

I'm a big fan of milk.

I will open the can of worms and say not all milk is the same - I bough M&S milk recently and well it did not cut the mustard with me. :)

This is kinda missing the point entirely.
Which ever is cheaper /kg of protein isn't the issue. We are only concerned with protein.

33g protein from powder is 133-150 calories.
1 litre of milk is about 600 calories.
It should be obvious which is better from a cost point of view.

They often add in protein to thicken up skim milk so it tastes less watery. Also as you remove the fat all the other stuff in the milk will increase in % since you have concentrated it. Like if you removed the alcohol from 40% vodka you would be left with 100% water.

Skim milk will also have more sugar/carbs per 100ml than regular milk because of this.

Is this an effective and safe method??

Or,as usual,,is there more cons than pros to it??

    Just wondering..

Yes to both. It's lots protein, fat, carbs in a handy bottle. It's prob about 2000 calories, so with some food on top it ends up being a decent and easy and cheap bulk diet.

    Hey,

GOMAD is a great way of getting protein, Kcals, fats into the diet at an easy and cheap way. IF combined with a normal solid food diet (Veg with chicken/steak) its very good for lads who are looking to gain weight for weight lifting.

However you gotta combine GOMAD with at least a good squatting routine, (usually Starting strength, squatting 3 times a week) where you are constantly increasing the weight, otherwise GOMAD is gonna make ya pertty damn fat and unfit
