LEG TONER

I just purchased a leg toner in a local Elvery's. It seems to get the leg muscles working, but every time I use it there is a strange sensation in lower back, and I am not sure if this is a warning sign. Does anyone have any experience with those toners and any advice to avoid hurting your back ( my partner complained about the same thing)

I couldn't find the exact photo, but here is another brand of the same type toner

Knowing nothing about the machine, I can't comment on it specifically.

However, if you're getting a pain in your back I would advise you stop using it until you figure out what's going on.

Exercise is supposed to feel like it's pushing you but it should never feel like you're injuring yourself. Tired, pushed, drained never, injure/damage/tear/etc.

Aside from that, if you want to make your legs look better, build muscle with squats and drop fat by lowering bodyfat in general through diet.

That looks like some kind of medieval torture device!!

Best advice anyone could give you would be to return it tbh.

    This.

I'd hazard a guess that you lack the hip mobility and core stability to use it correctly without compensating via your lower back.

...and the machine really don't "do" anything with regards toning, so it's only function seems to be to cause you injury.

Back it goes to Elvery's would be my advice :)

    Thanks for the reply,
As regards to the diet, I have been following a very healthy life style for the last couple of years and only bought this machine for actual toning ( exactly what it said on the box) and not weight loss. I definitely felt the muscles reacting to the workout, and amonst about 20 reviews I found online, only one mentioned a backache and most of them claimed the leg toner had an effect, so it seems that the core stability must be the key. My body is extremely flexible, however I do have some lower back issues and visit my chiropractor every 6 weeks to keep it in check.

I was hoping anyone had any advice on actual correct way/posture for this type of exercise, but I will definitely minimize my workouts for now.

On the other hand, maybe bringing it back is the answer, but I think I lost the receipt- it was only 20 quit on sale ((((

Here is also a video I found re: lower back pain reduction with leg toner

Your Chiropractor should be giving you rehab to eliminate your back pain but as per their training they keep you on a "maintenance" programme & only give temporary relief! Change to a reputable Osteopath, Physio or Physical Therapist & atleast get a 2nd opinion!

Have to agree with this posters recommendation, OP. I'm not saying that your chiropractor should be able see you once and magically fix things, but if you're having to continually go over a long period, you have to ask yourself what exactly this man is doing for your back?

Interesting how the conversation is now focused on the Chriropractor :D

I had an intensive course of treatments over 3 months and now I am visiting him every 6 weeks. I suspect it is a maintenance program, but as my lifestyle( job) didn't change, I am constantly putting pressure on my back, so maintenance approach makes sense. However, thanks for the advice re: second opinion.

However, the whole point of this thread was to discover more about the leg toner. In the You Tube video (link posted above) the gentleman is using the leg toner to help train the muscles to eliminate the back pain and I see that he leans over the handle a bit, as oppose to standing straight, and when I tried this, there definitely was no pressure on the lower back and the leg muscles definitely worked out. Maybe that is the key.

I think the main reason the topic had derailed is because there isn't much further advice that can be given in terms of your original query. You're basically using saying the machine caused you back pain, and now you want to use it to eliminate it?! I'm not being smart (okay, maybe a bit, sorry!) but can you see what I'm saying?

I'm sorry you wasted money on it, but if you really want to work on your legs then you need to squat, be it at home with a kettlebell or in the gym under a bar.

Clear misunderstanding (on your behalf) - I was actually asking for advice on using the equipment correctly. I was hoping to get replies from those who actually tried it and their opinion (drawn from experience using it) .
But it seems no-one here have come across this type of leg toners before, so I guess the topic is closed, really.

I don't think I misunderstood? You asked how to use the equipment correctly, and you were advised not to use it at all - and then provided with better alternatives to achieve the results you want.

I had back pain for a while in my lower back. I did deadlifts and it went away. I'm not saying that the answer to everything is deadlifts but consider trying it.

Best of luck with whichever course of action you take.
