Lacking Motivation

    Hi Guys,

Just a quick question to see how people get motivated but most importantly stay motivated?

I am finding it hard over the last year to stay motivated with workouts (weights/cardio)

I have no problem dieting like I can cut sh!t out of my diet at the drop of a hat and have no cravings, its the exercise part which seems to get over shadowed by work and stuff.

How do ye keep going, even on the days where you cannot move off the couch or bed with tierdness or when your away from home at something and miss a training session, how do you make up and any other advice so I can get some consistency.

    Thanks,
    Gary

Goal setting, write down your short term, mid term & long term goals.

Find a programme you love! If it's a boring as **** split bodybuilding routine & you're not training to be a bodybuilder then whats the point?
Same as if you're training sports specific but don't play that sport, it jut wont be appropriate for you!

Train for said event/sport. The self satisfaction in achieving your personal goals is almost addictive & you'll be looking for the next challenge in no time!

That's how I look at it anyway!

Sort out a couple of good playlists full of dance/rock pumped up songs, never fails to get me through a workout!

I'd also agree that mixing up your normal routine will keep you motivated. throw in a few excersises that you wouldn't normally do and challenge yourself to master those.

I also keep myself motivated by doing a lot or reading online of exersise forums and health and nutrition blogs. Also youtube is your friend here, look up some videos to keep you focussed and interested.

The Crossfit 2012 games were on 2 weeks ago and they have all the videos up of the finals, makes for a great watch. Check out Rich Froning (2011 & 2012 winner) as he has a lot of videos out and a couple of videos doing a bio and interview.

If you still can't motivate yourself then maybe take a few rest days and not worry about it. Once you're a bit more rested and have had a few days off you may find yourself that youre ready to get back into it.

Thanks for the reply that puts a bit more sense into it for me now, I spend my life reading forums and mags so that does keep interest high

Actually yeah that's definitely my biggest motivation. If I get a PB in a lift I'll be raring to get back in the gym for the next while. Plateaus are tough on motivation.

if its working out for the sake of working out i cant do it decide on something you want to do like run a marathon'get a six pack whatever you want so when you work out you have a goal to work towards

At the end of the day you do what's most important to you, if you really want it and you respect yourself you will just do it. If you are as good as you think you are you will prove it to yourself by pushing harder than you want to push. The feeling of accomplishment or self respect is 100 times greater after greulling workouts on the days when you didn't think you could get off the couch or out of bed, training when you want to train isn't an accomplishment, working out is called working for a reason, it isn't meant to be fun, Ali said it best "I hated every minute of training, but I said, ''Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion""

Get a personal trainer if you can afford it for the first few months. They'll push you enough, and once you see results you'll keep going.

I would never be able to afford a person al trainer, I saved for 2011 to build a gym in the house, now am broke as a duck, have everything i need though its just the lacking in motivation, Its so bad that I actually built it beside my bedroom and have to walk through it whenever i go in and out and its unused because I am so lazy.

So this week has been great, dieting is grand, never had a problem cutting out the Sh1t out of my diet, loads of greens and lean meat, fish etc.

Cardio is good, I mean im a soccer played so always running, done loads of compound work last night so feels pretty good, kitted out the walls with my exercise plan and diet meals to memorise when and what, also stuck up loads of motivationals and Al Pachinos Speech from Any Given Sunday as I would normally listen to that an hour or two before kick off of any match im playing, its all going good

I am just worried because every other time it has also being going good at this point, updates to follow anyways,

I feel like I just havnt tapped into the total enjoyment of the gym people speak of at the minute, but will be good, other times I never allowed cheat days either, Chistmas 2010, spring summer 2011, I was a member of a gym and me and my friend got diets made up, exercise plans from our friends working that line of things for a career, I was in the best shape of my life, got my six pack back then, had nice sized biceps, chest like a concrete slab, I also think this factors into my lack of motivation thinking back on what I had then and then got a 9-5 job and all went belly up.... Literally BELLY up

Sounds a bit depressing alright, think you need to invite some people to your home gym and simply get some company :-) I wouldn t like to exercise being the ony person in the room!! I love going to gym at the peak times and love the buzz that helps you go through your workout smoother and keeps you energised.
