This is going to be an important race for McLaren. 4th in the constructors championship and only picked up 9 points in the last two races.

Hamilton is 4th in the drivers championship with 92 points, 37 points off championship leader Alonso who is on 129 points.

Button is 8th in the drivers championship with 50 points, 79 points off championship leader Alonso who is on 129 points.

Will be interesting to see how the McLaren will perform with the upgrades they are bringing to the race this weekend and see if they help increase the performance of the MP4/27.

Wonder what the odds for Pastor Maldonado to take out another driver this weekend...

Looking forward to the race.. This 2 week gap is really boring without the football on..

Wait til the 5-week gap after Hungary. :(

Lotus for most points would be where my money would be going this weekend, they're due a representative result. Although if the weather forecast I'm looking at is correct they'll struggle in qualifying, apparently misty/cloudy weather til Sunday morning followed by strong sunshine for the race.

Just watched it on youtube, seemed a good laugh.
Noticed no one wanted to answer the question about lewis's 100 race.
Looking at jordans post its hard to believe button only scored 5 pts in the last 6 races. Some turnaround from last year where he could do no wrong.

Highlights of the 1991 race on bbc red button.
Good scrap with senna and prost and some bitchin afterwards.

Ah sh*te.. 5 weeks, why is that? :( At least there the football starts before that so should be ok..

Mid-season break, very frustrating. Cutting the season by 2 months and not having the break would be my preference.

And I don't think they are allowed any testing either during this time? So struggling teams that may benefit competitively somewhat from such a break (i.e. Maclaren as noted above) can't fully. Kinda of pointless really!

But i suppose they have to get their summer holidays too!

I would Lewis to win this weekend. I hope he at least wins one race before the break.

Or even if there was a 3 week break between the Hungarian and European GP's The last time that was the case was back in 2008. 4 week break came in 2009. 5 week break is too long.

I dont dislike lewis as much as i used to.
Hope we see some good battles with him and alonso in the second half of this yr.
Also brundle tweeted how lewis said he hit a wet patch ran wide and damaged the car on the way to the grid last week.
Might explain his poor race pace.

Also had button not had the results in melbourne and china people might be talkin about him gettin the boot and not massa.

Never knew Hamilton damaged his car on the way to the grid till now

Indeed, no testing allowed during the break and there will be no more testing this season.

Think they have to have the factories closed for a week or two and all. What annoys me more is the 2 3-week breaks earlier in the season for no reason.

Amazing the difference a win and a podium can make eh? :pac: Massa hasn't just had poor form this season, he didn't get a podium all last season.

It was a stupid question though to be fair, none of the drivers have any interest in talking about the other drivers like that. I've been watching the Drivers Press Conferences since Sky started showing them and you'd really have to wonder where they find the "press" that ask some of the questions when they open it up to the floor. Often idiotic and repetative questions, it's cringworthy most of the time. All of us here would do a better job :D

I liked this moment from early in the year though.

Vettel is good for knocking a bit of crack out of the interviews.

As for this weekend, I can't see past the Red Bulls. Alonso will no doubt be there or there abouts again too. The McLarens really need a result too or they can wave goodbye to any silverware this season.

Lotus testing double DRS in German GP practice.
Lotus is set to give a track debut to its version of double DRS at Hockenheim on Friday, AUTOSPORT can reveal, with the team hoping to gain as much valuable test mileage on it as possible.

The Enstone-based outfit has been working on its concept ever since its protest against the Mercedes design was rejected by the race stewards at the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai.

A big effort by the team has resulted in it giving the green light for it to be trialled by Kimi Raikkonen in the opening free practice for the German GP.

The team wants to use the test to check on the benefits of the design, but it is unlikely to race it this weekend. However, it is hoping to use it later on in the season when it could be valuable at the higher downforce tracks.

Fp2 red flagged with about 4 mins left, Schumi came out of a corner, caught the paint, wheels spin and went across the grass into the wall. He's fine, car isn't too bad. Fastest times don't mean much, everyone was on inter's as the track was drying out with every lap when it started raining again. Rain forecast again for quali tomorrow with a dry race on Sunday.

I see Setanta have chosen to show all the sessions on Setanta 1, because some overweight men with sticks are walking around a field this weekend. Not impressed.

WTF? Does that include Practice? I thought Setanta promised they would all be on their main channel.:(

From looking at the UPC EPC practice, qualifying, and the race are on Setanta 1.

What a useless shower UPC are. So much for their press release "....while ensuring each viewer will be able to watch every possible minute of the Formula 1 Grand Prix 2012 season.”

I just tried to call them there and they are closed now till Monday. If I'd seen this before I'd have called them to ask them to give me Setanta Ireland free till Sunday, especially as I pay for Sky Sports and don't get Sky F1.

Do any of the pubs in Dublin city show F1? Living Room perhaps?

I prefer the old one. There was something about the blast through the forest that gave the old track character.

old one by far!, it was like the german Monza.

Yeah, the old Hockenheimring was favourite by far. I was doing some reading about it today and once the circuit was modified for 2002 German GP, the old straights were dug up. This is what the Ostkurve from the old circuit looks like now.

Kimi was told the wing is doing what it did in Silverstone, it shouldn't have been available in the wet at all. Hmmmm.......

The rear wing yes,not DRS. They were saying they didn't have great downforce through the slower speed corners. Something to that effect anyway.

P3 Kimi's last lap - all 0.22sec he lost in the last slower sector of the track.

Button at the bottom of the times in P3, any reason for that? Used tyres & race fuel?

From watching the practices from the last few races i've learnt 1 thing, they mean f**k all :) Between different fuel loads, different tires and different engine modes beings used, there's rarely a clear pattern being formed.

Rang UPC and talked to their staff about this problem and informed them of their 'promise' to show F1 live on Setanta Ireland this year - they told me that it is out of their hands - so I've lodged a complaint and shall receive a call from their complaints dept on Monday or Tuesday! I suggest others do the same to give Setanta and UPC a kick in the back side for being dis-loyal to their F1 fans.
