Favourite/Least Favourite County Jersey?

Apologies I'm sure this thread as been done before, but I thought it would be interesting to see what jerseys people like and dislike.
I myself have been collecting since I was a child and have at least one version of all 32 plus NY and London

My favourite is Carlow, it seems to divide opinions but I love it. I also like the Antrim shirt circa 2001,02. I never was madly in love with my native Tipperary's jerseys although they have improved greatly in recent times since they removed the hoop from the back.

My least favourite of all however would probably be Laois, they're a bit bland imo.

    Favourite: Westmeath
    Least Favourite: Galway (Meath really)

Favourite: Hard to pick just one tbh, most by O'Neills is really nice I think. Limerick (nice retro look) , Tipp, Carlow, Antrim, Mayo, Dublin all lovely jerseys but I'd pick Offaly, really like the green, white and yellow.

Least Favourite: Not being biased in any way before the KK lads hop on me but I think the Kilkenny jersey is awful, the colours of black and amber are horrible and a big dirty red sponsor on the front.
Also not mad into Sligo jersey, all black is a bit dull.

The Carlow and Kilkenny shirts are very dull and there is not much that you could do with them.

    Carlow? Dull?
    ONLC041-2T.jpg
The players look like packets of Fruit Pastilles. I personally love the Carlow jersey :pac:
I find a lot of the international jerseys are the best out there.
    New York
    San Francisco
    Toronto
    Buffalo

Not gone on the Westmeath and Galway maroon jerseys or the Kildare one.

Least Favourite - Galway Football Jersey :(

I quite like the Donegal jersey.

I've never been all that fond of my native Mayo's choice of green and red, very easy colours to make look ugly on a jersey.

The Mayo one this year is quite nice I think, its works better with green being the dominant colour and the red being utilised in trimmings around the sides.

My favourite would be the Down away jersey (black and amber) I nearly bought one of a Down lad in Santa Ponsa one year.

My least favourite would be Carlow. Its like a set of traffic lights.

Least favourite - Carlow - awful looking

There's something about the Waterford hurling jersey that I dislike but can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's the design up the back or the black section at the v-neck.

Tipp's jersey is nice (I'm biased). Limerick's is also very cool.

I really like the new mayo jersey, they intigrated the green and red really well instead of the usual red band across the middle that we've seen rolled out for the last hundred years.

the least nice jersey i would say (in my own opinion) is the waterford jersey, nothing to do with the colour just the design isnt at all nice looking, very cheap looking I think!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 918 ✭✭✭RoscommonTom

Its the design instead of the colours that makes all the difference, like some one else said the oneills ones are the best. Wonder what would happen if they let the foregn companies lose on the design like puma and the likes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,737 ✭✭✭Tombo2001

Favorite would be mid-1980s, please see Ambrose O'Donovan.

Least favorite would be Armagh circa 2006.

+1 for Longford, that is a nice one.

Worst of all time thought were those tee shirts the Irish compromise rules team wore in 1999, they looked like they were picked up in the bargain bin at Pennys.

Adidas did manufacture the Kerry Jerseys for a brief period a couple of years back. Its interesting actually because they once brought a tort action against O'Neills over the use of the three strip design, which they contested was a 'passing off' offence by O'Neills. The court ended up ruling in favour of O'Neills, stating that subtle differences meant it wasn't an infringement of the trademark.

Ridicirous that they wouldnt let adidas continue making the, have always wondered why its only Irish brands making the jerseys

Oh no, nobody is stopping the likes of Adidas from entering the market. That case was about Adidas trying to prevent O'Neills from using their three stripe design on jerseys.

I preferred Sligo when they wore white tops and black shorts. That all black strip was originally their away colours but they took a liking to it after a high profile championship win against Kildare. If my memory serves me correctly, the GAA actually fined them when they failed to revert back to their old colours.

    Favourite: Galway hurling jersey

Least Favourite: None at the moment, but Wexford had a jersey out a number of years ago (I think when they beat KK and then won the Leinster SHC title in 2004) hated them jerseys. They always looked like the jerseys were washed with some colours that faded into them.

Oh I like that Buffalo jersey! Buffalo-fenians-GAA-blue-yellow-jersey-1.jpg

I really liked this old Cavan jersey. Blue and Black go well together and this style is nicer than the new ones.

    Never liked the Kilkenny jerseys.

There wasn't much of them left after the Aussies got their hands on them.

Favourite: I really like the Mayo jersey this year, looks much nicer than any previous jersey I can think of. The Donegal and Tipperary jerseys are close second choices for me.

Least Favourite: Carlow. I've never liked that jersey. Not really a fan of the Monaghan or Laois jerseys either.

Favourite: Roscommon away jersey it is savage. Also like Cavan, Roscommon home, Dublin.

Least Favourite: any jersey not done by o neills. Azzurri have a terrible design. Donegal and Waterford are awful. Kilkenny not far behind.

have to say i love the old dublin jersey from the 70's 80's

hate the monaghan jersey from any era :D nothing to do with design though

Just lookin at Laois jersey on TV now, its horrific.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 975 ✭✭✭J Cheever Loophole

Although I'm Armagh, I like to think I can be objective when considering our jersies - our last one for instance was pants, IMHO, even though I bought one!! :o

However all three of our curretn retro style jersies are really good, but the white one is particularly class! Other good jersies that come to mind are the Dublin goalkeeper's top, the Clare goalkeeper (blue with yellow band) although I have not seen it for sale on O'Neills, and I also loved the Derry away jersey.

I'm not a fan of the plain greens and blues to be honest, but my least favourite would be the Donegal jersey - the current version would not compare to their jersies with O'Neills in the past.

I generally prefer gk/away jerseys -probably cos yhe designers have some more freedom to alter the traditional colour palette

Why has GAA not followed rugby/soccer and not brought in more fitted sizes?

For one, players like the gooch look like they're wearing their momma's blouse sometimes.

And secondly, wouldn't it help with the incessant pulling and dragging?

In terms of worst: sorry Carlow, you're it.

In general though, county's second strip is generally always nicer on the eye.

Favourite: Kildare, all white is a clean and classic look.

Least Favourite: Carlow, terrible colours and terrible crest to match.

There are tight-fit jerseys but just some teams seem to prefer the older style. Mayo, Dublin, Cork etc. all have tight-fit ones.
If someone is pulling and dragging you you're often given a free so it's not always bad to have done to you. Unlike rugby where it's allowed.

    They're all horrible.

Question: why do virtually every team wear white shorts regardless of shirt colour?

I know a few have blue but the majority wear white. Look at KK, what's with the white?

Come to think of it, most soccer teams have white shorts as well. Why?

Not a fan of Carlow jerseys at all.

Azzuri new design without the collars are just awful...

Any GAA jersey with Georgia Salpa or another hot babe in it works for me! I also like the sight of a Cork Jersey in Croke Park, you can smell fear in the air and you'll soon know victory is within reach.
