starting out with kettle bells

I've been googling and found lots of dvds and sites with kettlebells and I'd like to give them a go.
I'm 2.5 months into a total diet and exercise re evaluation - my GP perscribed me xenical as I was 16 stone 7 and 5 foot 6 inches tall. Anyhow, all the horror side effects & potential organ damage that come along with xenical had me decide it was time to get my lazy ass in gear.
Currently following a basic healthy eating plan and now weigh 14 st 4 lb , swim 3 hours a week, walk/jog about 3 hours a week. I'd like to add some weights as have really poor muscle tone/strength & kettlebells look like something I could do at home when the kids are in bed.
Can anyone recommend where to start - which dvd's and what weight of kettlebell to start with.
    thanks in advance.

great to hear your making positive changes. KB's are very good in an exercise program. Your best bet would be to do a KB course and learn basic technic, with the best will in the world they not the ideal tool to lean from youtube or a video, you could do more harm than good.

    Cheers

thanks - struggle to get to gym/classes as pretty much on my own with the kids most of the time. Already use up my babysitter for swimming and aquaerobics. But I did find a course on Sept 1st in Dublin - will check that out.
Groupon in the UK had 10 dvds and a kettlebell for £40 last week - darn that I missed it.

I will recommend Marianne's site. Really good resource for kettlebelll and body weight routines that you can do at home. You can also contact her via the site, facebook or twitter and she will answer any questions you may have, As well as being a nurse, she is a qualified KB instructor, so knows what she is talking abut.

Also have a look at the KB workshop run by Mark Bunce and D8 Fitness.

Workshop is 3.5 hours long, but you get expert instruction on all the basic moves to get you started. €50 for the workshop, which includes a KB to take home with you, so not a bad deal. But expect to be quite stiff and sore for a couple of days after :) You will ache in places you never knew existed :)
