looks weird don't like the ripple effect on the plastic.

Hmm wonder what the prices will be like if its true.

I think the new design is ugly and the DVD/Blu Ray drive on top is a step back.

The PS3 slim isn't a completely conventional design, either is the fat PS3. I didn't mind that too much but this time round they really got it wrong. I wish Sony would adopt a conventional design with classical lines. It really makes the console look like a toy.

a great advantage with this that i can see with this new ps3 is that its going to be pretty cheap and very small and also not the best looking ps3 going so it be ideal for in car ent slip it in the dash nicely

This is a mock up done by a guy on Neogaf, not in any way official, just someone's guesstimate.

Won't affect the vast majority here, we already own PS3's :p

A new PS3 slim would mean that a new console PS4 would be Christmas 2014 release date.

hope it will have something like 2tb hard drive in it.

We all need so much storage for fifa saved data which amounts to 1.2mbs

Nice, I'll be getting my hands on this then, my current PS3 is wrecked.

Sony will not announce the much-rumoured "super slim" PS3-4000 model at Gamescom, a new report suggests.
The PlayStation manufacturer has delayed the planned reveal due to high stock levels of the current PlayStation 3, VG247 stated.
Previous reports have outed three varieties of the new model: 16GB, 250GB and 500GB.
The 16GB version will use flash-based memory, and will likely be marketed to rival Microsoft's 4GB Xbox 360. The report states that a price point as low as £99 is possible for the machine.
"We haven't announced anything new on PS3 in terms of hardware revisions," Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told Eurogamer at E3. "We should never say never - hardware guys are always looking at ways to make things cheaper, smaller."

£99, at what point did the PS2 hit that price and that was likely when the PS3 had been released.

    TGS seem likely now.

So the current PS3 for sale is not a slim

It is, this one is slim compared to the slim, or anorexic compared to the phat, if you prefer.

Super Slim 12GB PS3 advertised by Polish retailer
    NewsPublish Date 17/09/2012 - 3:22pm GMT+1
500GB model also said to be on the way.

Sony looks set to launch a 12GB super slim PS3 and a higher capacity 500GB model in time for the holiday season, according to an advert placed by Polish electronics retailer Media Expert (seen by Polygamia | TheSixthAxis).

The advert places a September 28 date on the two new models, priced at €199 (around £160) for the 12GB, and €299 (around £240) for the 500GB model.

Sony is expected to officially announce the new PS3s at the Tokyo Game Show later this month – Sony's conference will take place at 5am BST time on Wednesday September 19.

    VideoGamer.com Analysis

A budget priced PS3 would be a great way to help Sony shift more consoles in the wake of new competition from Wii U - set to launch November 30.

It looks like they are going ahead with that ugly new super slim
    ps3novoanatel4.jpg

I guess it will help sell a few more PS3's but they should have spent more time in the design stuido

They're squeezing the price so much even there's nothing more to squeeze imo, but I still don't think it's going to help em' especially with the very **** model and 12gb seriously? MGS 4 alone is 10gb install.

12GB? Surely that should say 120GB.

thread should say super slim ps3.

I really have to see it for real, it is so cheap looking

That's just stupid on Sony's part. As already mentioned the install size for some games would consume most of the HDD. i remember cursing the 60GB HDD in my PS3 for being too small but 12GB? LOL

In all likely hood it won't have the 12Gb taking up space where the other new slims have their 2.5" HDD, it's likely the same as the 360 in that you can still add a HDD. If they do it right it'll sell to people looking for the cheapest PS3 possible or those who want to put a 1TB or so drive in straight away.

12GB is ridiculous, most people have no idea how to add a hard drive later.
They will be ordering the wrong size, think of all the endless boards threads regarding this, put another sticky up quick !!
It doesnt look that much smaller than the slim, interested the see the size specs.

Is there a 12gb model? Joystiq didn't mention it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,439 ✭✭✭Josey Wales

I think the 12GB flash memory PS3 is a good idea. It will allow them to sell it at a cheaper price point and people can buy a separate HDD at a later time. I don't see anything wrong with having more choice.

ok, the cheap ps3 is a break for the gamers with less cash but I still don't like the design (its so wood like). I do think it signals the beginning of the PS4 though. You might get 2 years out of it before you see a new model on the shelf.

How do you put in the DVD/blu ray ? does it operate like the George foreman ?

AFAIK the top of the PS3 is split in two, so that the right-hand side slides to the left, opening the disk tray.

It is very crap looking alright.

I though Slim 1 looked better than original.

    Is it actually cheaper though?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,564 ✭✭✭quad_red

I dunno. I think they're getting uglier as time goes on. I liked the old fat PS3s.

229 euros for 12gb stand alone and 299 euros for 250gb Uncharted 3 bundle  What a joke!!!

My phat ps3 recently died and i've been waiting to see what announcements where being made regarding the super slim and now i've my answer.

Just have to see the pricing and see if it worth getting the original phat ps3 reballed or just go with this. design is strange on this one alright maybe its a grower

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,739 ✭✭✭Stuxnet

Bust my ps3 recently trying to downgrade,
500GB will be released on 28th September costing €299.99 and will come bundled with Fifa 13.
looks like a decent deal to me !

Will this bring the current PS3 slim down in price do you reckon? 12GB doesn't seem like a while lot of space and then the 250GB and 500GB are still a bit expensive.

Redesigned and added an SSD. I dont see the point TBH, wont effect gameplay and if it does it will be minimal. It will make the OS run quicker but thats about it. I am still on the origional one with internal 500gb.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,968 ✭✭✭aindriu80

only thing i like is the idea of the OS running faster, i wish they put the os for the slim on Flash ROM or something super fast.

The rest of it is no real advantage. I bought a 640gb internal HD for relatively cheap on amazon and it is serving me very well

How so, a 250GB HDD would cost between €40-50 and the Game would at this stage be around €20.

It comes with SSD? Can I get a source for that or is it just SSD compatibility?

Would it make loading times faster?? Some of my games have stupidly long loading times so an SSD would be savage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 371 ✭✭eioneill

I must be the only one who likes the design. I wont be buying it because I'm happy with my current slim.
I'm guessing here but with the new 12GB model I think we can perhaps expect an across the board firmware upgrade to allow game saves etc. to be saved to external hard drives and USB drives direct?

The way the filing system works on the PS3 an SSD does not give much if any advantage. In some cases a standard drive will be a bit quicker. There have been loads of benchmark test done on it.

They are releasing an external plug in hard drive 250 GB for €89.99. But im sure any HHD will work.
