As a person who is comfortable with being sexually attracted to men I have to say I am bitterly disappointed with my sexuality being used on a daily basis in politics.

    For shame.

    For shame on you all.

Daily basis? It flares up and becomes a big issue every now and again. It'll calm down and be forgotten again until the constitution commission come up with their proposals.

Homosexuality is a political hot topic in a positive sense now. Why would you be "bitterly disappointed" with it?

It's being "used" (or debated) on a daily basis in politics because marriage equality and giving same-sex couples the same rights as opposite-sex couples in the adoption process are current political issues that need to be sorted out.

When these issues are ironed out. The whole debate will die down and it won't be mentioned in politics or the media as much.

It remains, however, that same-sex couples don't have the same rights as opposite-sex couples and until they get their civil rights the debate will continue.

'ah you think he'd come out of the closet like, everyone knows'

FFS you don't see the straight people lining up to publicly announce their heterosexuality do ya????

Because until you say you're gay, society assumes, by default, that you're straight.

Ah sure we won't bother discussing these things so. Let's not bother trying to achieve what should be basic rights. Shur who cares if we can never get married and have equal status to straight couples? Who cares if gay couples are never allowed adopt as a couple? Get back in the closet while you're at it, why don't you? Better lock it too and make sure your ears are blocked lest someone dare mention the "g" word in front of you in the context of political debate!

Whether you like it or not, discussions revolving around sexuality aren't going away until LGBT people have equal rights when it comes to marriage and adoption laws. Or until the public have the sense to turf bigots like Lucinda Creighton (won't comment on the dear leader yet until he finally recovers enough from his traumatic flowerpot altercation to make a statement) out of the Dáil where they have no place. In an ideal world there'd be no need for this constant obsession with marriage equality, because it would pretty much be a given and would already be in law...but shock horror! World is not perfect and bigotry still in existence. Hence the need for discussion.

If the mention of your sexuality on a daily basis offends you more than lack of marriage/adoption rights for LGBT people then you have seriously mixed up priorities.
    For shame.

    For shame on you all.

Oh yeah, shame on ALL of us. 'Cause we're all fúcking politicians, aren't we?

He has every intention of acting according to his good conscience. His conscience is one aspect of his personality and political track-record and he should act according to that. It would be terrible if politicians were bullied into acting in way contrary to their reason.

Enda Kenny, a practising Catholic, is not going to be bullied by a bunch of left-wing cranks who one day are all for homosexual "civil rights", and the next day are out knocking and ridiculing ordinary Catholics over sex abuse. If gays want respect and society to tolerate their behaviour, then they should at the very least, look inwards on themselves and show some respect for the beliefs of the vast majority of public office holders in this country.

Not when those beliefs are forced on them. This is supposed to be a Republic, not a mob-rule state.

I'd sooner politicians did what they thought was right than being beholden to a mob of angry gays who are all too quick to play the homophobe branding card. I'd say it's only a matter of time before they start playing on the Taoiseach's personal Catholic beliefs if they don't get what they want. Disgusting tactics if you ask me. Mob-rule State how are you.

Respecting the will of the majority is part and parcel of being a good citizen. That's not to say that you can't campaign/lobby for something you strongly believe in.
