Parcel Motel FAQ thread by flyguy.

If you go to parcelmotel.com and pre register for the service that launches tomorrow you get 3 free drops at the parcel motel. Also it allows you to get items delivered to an address in the north for any sites that will only do uk delivery or have ridiculous postage charges outside the uk
Parcel Motel is a whole new way to manage your online shopping deliveries. Each Parcel Motel contains 80 secure lockers of varying sizes. They are all located in convenient places such as petrol station forecourts with 24-hour access 7 days a week. To find out where your nearest one is click here.
No more waiting around or missed delivery notices telling you to pick up your parcel during the exact same hours that you’re at work. And no more worrying about memos from your boss on the subject of receiving personal deliveries at work!
Now you can have your parcels sent directly to your nearest Parcel Motel ready for collection, at a time that suits you.

handy for ordering stuff from the uk on sites that dont deliver to the Republic, only €3.50 per delivery, or if theres no one at home during the day to take delivery

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 944 ✭✭✭swampy353

Also it would seem that if you want to order a large item, you will be able to collect from the depot. Handy for the deals on amazon. Also only €3.50

Pity they don't offer the service to the rest of the country other than just Dublin (and 1 in kildare).

So you get your parcel sent to northern ireland and you have to collect it yourself or they will deliver things to the republic that are uk only?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,323 ✭✭✭✭MrStuffins

Nope, they will deliver it to the Republic of Ireland location for the same price as it would cost to get them to hold it in Ireland from the first place.

Would this work for small electronic items from the likes of play.com?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 498 ✭✭badker

cant see why it wouldnt work. check out q & a's section.

    https://www.parcelmotel.com/how-it-works/faqs/

Handy if you are near one of the collection points. Would like to see it up and working for a while before ordering...has anyone seen these in person?

.....................................................................................................................................Seems 1st 2 visits are free. A least you can try it out first.

Your first 2 visits to the parcel motel are free. After that it is €3.50 per transaction. There is no extra charge for using the UK address to avail of free shipping in the UK.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 119 ✭✭PeWu79

    2 not 3?
It says 3 on their webpage
    3 x €3.50 = €10.50

Yeah they could do with a depot a little further west ok, somewhere like Athlone would be perfect (for me :D )

Pity they dont then ship it onwards like Deliverme.ie do

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

Yep, Deliverme seems to be a much better idea if ur ordering bits from the UK that can't be shipped here.. No limit on size and he'll ship it to you or you can collect.

this is a great service - BUT there are an increasing amount of sellers that only ship to mainland UK, so the delivery address in mainland UK would be 10000 times better

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,786 ✭✭✭funnyname

Cheers op, just signed up and got a credit of €7.50, great to have this as a back up.

Thanks for the post, I only had one problem when it came to registration via mobile phone
I have one but I have no reception where I live so I had to get in the car and drive off some 4 miles to get reception, after that no problems, great post as I do order a lot of stuff from the UK which gives free delivery to a uk address, I'm over the moon . Thanks again.

Wouldn't fit the value guidelines, liability is limited to €100 so if you chance it and it goes walkabout, tough ****.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 944 ✭✭✭swampy353

There shoudnt be a problem with you completing the registration at a later point, also you may be able to send a text to a landline for registration. Off topic, but good god you need to get a phone that works!!

Would you still be liable for VAT or excise duties from deliveries from non EU countries?

Good question. Technically you should be but when I ordered from Amazon they didn't add the extra VAT as they usually do because the delivery address was within the UK. Maybe the very low ceiling on the value of goods makes it uneconomic to collect but it's something to tease out. People who have ordered from deliverme.ie would probably have an idea.

You would be liable for import duty, why wouldn't you be? Your still ordering into Ireland just redirecting it through their UK sorting office. Your still liable for everything.

While its a great idea and something I'll probably use be aware that their terms and conditions limit their liability:
Our Liability howsoever arising and notwithstanding that the cause of any theft, loss or damage be explained or unexplained shall not exceed:
    a) The replacement value of any goods or merchandise stolen, lost or damaged OR
    b) EUR €100 (one hundred euro) whichever shall be the least

Fine for most things but maybe not for expensive items.

Grand job, €7 credit. So that's two free deliveries from the UK.

Seems like a genuinely innovative service alright; kudos to them.

They're also planning on a nationwide roll-out with 400 parcel motels and 50 new jobs over the next 1-2 years:

Any of you Dubs on here, if you're passing these depots would you mind taking a picture of them. Nothing more than being curious at what they look like, that's all.

I asked them what happens if, say, there are 20 lockers in a location and 25 people order stuff to that location. Haven't heard back yet. Am I missing something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,451 ✭✭✭blastman

    An answer? :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 310 ✭✭luvlyjubbly

Thanks op, I've put in an order, I'll report back how it works out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,355 ✭✭✭cruhoortwunk

Handy for shipping items that Amazon don't ship to Ireland too eg. Perfumes, Eau de Toilette
Actually no they don't ship to NI either!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,442 ✭✭✭xtal191

The site gives me an error every time i enter a mobile phone number.

    Never mind, worked now.

I presume they'll just stagger them, and treat them as first come, first served. I believe the items are only kept in the lockers for 24 (48?) hours before they're removed, and maybe only collectable from the depot

So you don't even have to tell them when your ordering something ? Just give your PMID to wherever you ordering from and they'll let you know when they receive the parcel ?
