The roman empire did not exist after the fall of Rome. It may have still been referred as such at the time but that was because it had always been referred as such. some may argue and I would be one, that the eastern empire was a completely different empire in all but name even before the fall of Rome.

if a question is asked about rome it is about rome itself not an off branch empire that seceded from Rome.

nope the vast majority go as far as the western empire's demise, then they scert over the eastern empire. The vast majority refer to them as the byzantine empire when not talking about Rome.

I am a historian, I work everyday with historians - when we lecture on the Roman Empire post Constantine we mean east plus west unless we specify otherwise. But if you are that excised then hey - take it and ask a question.

It's the second time this q has come up, I'm not looking to ask a question, I'm just pointing out that history makes a distinction between the two. The eastern empire is called the Byzantine empire as far Constantine time to distinguish the difference between the two.
