Busted my GPS device - only a few weeks old.

    I wrecked my GPS device screen, it's a Golf Buddy Platinum and cost me a fortune. I basically crushed the screen till it bled, badly, and it's rendered it useless.

    What are the options? I assume it's tough crap even though it's only a few weeks old? Does anyone know if these things can be repaired? I intend to call the shop where I bought it and see what the options are but wanted to know what my rights are (if any) in advance before calling.

    Fairly safe to say it is covered for normal wear and tear and should be of a quality fit for a round of golf etc.
    By the sounds of it the incident with you was outside normal wear and tear, I'd say you have no leg to stand on.
    What exactly happened?

    No it was sitting near my rear window under the boot and I went to close the boot on it. Completely my own fault and even if I wanted to there is no way I could pass it off as wear and tear. What a waste of over 300 squids. Never even really got to use it. Destroyed it 2 days before playing away twice. Rage.

    Hopefully it can be repaired in some way...

    Would your club insurance not cover it? A friend recently claimed for a phone that got damaged on the course and although he didn't get it's full worth, he got some amount back.

    I'll check it out. Either way the place I bought it told me to bring it in and they will call to get it repaired if possible.

    Oh that hurts, exact same happened my mate with his brand new 3 wood, closed the boot onto it and snap.

    Threw my putter at my bag last week (I know, bad temper and all), cracked the screen of my Samsung Galaxy IIs, screen bleed, and apparently as it is and LCD scree cannot be repaired. raging is not the word!!
    Its the same kinda screen on a platinum, bad times!!

    The lad in American Golf where I bought it called up for me and there is a place in Naas that repairs them. €100 for a replacement screen. If it turns out that I can get it repaired for 100 lids I'll be a happy camper.

    They charged me €100 and sent me out a brand new Golfbuddy complete with holders, charger etc......!! :D:D:D.
    Just don't be in any hurry looking for it... it took about 2 weeks in all but worth it. Call this number - +353 14845651 - and get the ball rolling.

    (I have mine mounted on a holder on my golf cart and was a bit careless putting a club back in my bag and damaged the screen!)

    Had a problem too with my own golf buddy recently after an update it didnt run right
    I brought it back to where i bought it just over 2 yrs ago and recieved a new device with my own battery (still does 3 rounds between charge) put into it a week later free of charge
    Was expecting to pay something to reset my own.
    So thanks to customer care or the rep in munster/Ireland

    I am fully aware of my actions and consequences to them, I don't need you to point out how ridiculous they were, we all do things in sport/life we are ashamed of, a lot of mistakes are born of passion and ambition! I have played golf my entire life, it has been, and continues to be my lively hood since I was 17 years old. I am passionate about what I do and on course when I let it slip, from time to time I have a melt down, Its who I am, I apologize to whom ever I may of offended and we move on. I have seen others melt down on the golf course and on many other sporting arenas, but I would never judge them on it, You never know what demons people are battling. To answer your question, Yes I probably will do it again!!

    Ah ok I see, you throw your clubs just so everyone else will know how much you care, I get it know, it's just for show, and using your logic the guy who doesn't throw his toys out of the pram doesn't care as much.

    if you go onto the golfbuddy website u will find a contact number for golfbuddy customer services in ireland. They will repair/replace for free generally even if they know u smashed it.

    I had mine collected and addressed to germany. Took about 2-3 weeks but was free

    In my expierience in the golf trade u should always return products for repair to the company that makes the product

    Seems mad that they will repair it for free even though I broke it through my own stupidity. Anyway, not wanting to look a gift horse in the mouth. I'd gladly pay EUR100 to get it fixed if it came to it so looks like I'm on to a winner regardless. Thanks to all who contributed (constructively :))

    Glad u saved a €100 by not sending it to that other company who replace the screen.

    Apologies for dragging up an old thread, but I smashed the screen on my golf buddy a couple of weeks ago. Had it in my back pocket and bent down to tee up a ball and heard the crack. No comments about the size of my ass please.
    I rang the 484 5651 number from the gpsgolfbuddy.eu website and was told that it would be 150 yo-yos to replace the screen.
    I was wondering am I onto the right people? I would have thought if they replace a unit 'coz you closed a boot lid on it, then they would have replace it for the damage I inflicted on it. I've carried a smart phone in my rear pocket for years and never had any problems.

    I've had another one replaced since then... for free. The yoke just stopped working after a year or two and I got a replacement again for free.

    Top company.

    Result !!! Incredible customer service. They first said no and when I pleaded my case and quoted your example they contacted head office who said they would replace the unit. It's 18 months old - fantastic service and thanks to Boardsies.

    PS now need more space within my pockets.

    Hi Mr.Larson, could you pm me the email address of that actual persons email, i busted my golfbuddy a while ago and got no joy with getting it replaced got the same "150 euros please" answer. So wouldnt mind chancing your contact and see if i can get any joy. Would be greatly appreciated.

    There could be some kind of warranty issue going on here... I mean mine was just a few weeks old. They told me I'd have to pay at the outset (and I was happy to do so) until they got the Serial Number and then told me I could get one for free... How old is your unit?

    aye id say your onto something with the warranty issue, mine is about 2.5 years old so is probably out of warranty. was hoping to get lucky with quoting a few examples of replacements being given out. sure you never know unless you try. at 150 euro would be better off picking up a new one i.e the garmin at 120 or so on amazon.

    mr larson is correct. You have a 2 yr warranty from date of purchase. Bring it back to the shop u bought it in and they should be able to contact the irish rep and find a solution for u.
