A high calorie snack needed

I'm in need of ideas of boosting daily caloric intake as I'm not getting anywhere near enough each day. Been in a bad way with a medical condition that means I have a lot of pain and zero appetite. I've been adding up my daily intake using Livestrong Plate. I had success with this when I wanted to lose weight last summer and I ended up working hard to lose nearly 2 stone but now unfortunately I have the opposite problem and I'm only averaging approx 1100-1200 kcal a day and some days less. Starting to get a bit worried. I'd rather not eat total junk to raise that but whatever I need to use to raise it needs to be a small volume of food with as many calories as possible and has to be gluten free.

I was trying to eat more bananas during the day because they appear to be one of the fruits higher in calories but bored by those now and it's really hard for me to eat huge plates of stuff when I'm not feeling well with no appetite. Any help or ideas would be great

Dipping celery sticks in a peanut butter would be my idea of boosting caloric intake in a healthy manner.

oat pancakes: there's a thread about them here somewhere. Packed full of calories if you put peanut butter and bananas in the mix.
Or else get a bowl stick half a tub of greek yoghurt, two spoons of peanut butter, a banana, some frozen fruit and top it off with a few squares of dark chocolate.
    Both delish.

Interesting that you both are thinking peanut butter! Either of you recommend a particular brand?

You can get tubs of seasoned seeds in tesco called "salad mix", delicious and very easy to eat, full of oils too

Ideally any brand that had 100% peanuts as the ingredients.
Failing that, as high a peanut content as possible

  • Nut butters are the best for this. Here's a peanut one, but feel free to try some of the others in related products

Or make your own. Some olive oil and peanuts in a blender will give you a basic DIY peanut butter. The advantage is you know exactly what it is in it.

How about macadamia nuts, a few go a long way in terms of fats/calories.

Like the guys have said, healthy Nuts (not salted/dry roasted etc) are very handy and high calories.

Also Milk is an easy way to increase Calories, 1 pint = ~300kcals. Glass of milk in the morning & with Dinner and add in some Nuts / Peanut butter.

try making your own snack bars, blend up a mix of nuts, seeds, dried fruit, dark choc, melted coconut oil, lay out in a tray and stick in the fridge. Can be a really tasty was of getting additional good calories on board.
