Dublin Versus Clare

Heading down to this on the bus and can't wait. This game is our big chance to redeem ourselves after the abysmal showing against Kilkenny in the Leinster SHC semi-final. Outside of the opening 10 minutes, we were completely outplayed by the Cats. It was a shocking display which was made all the more surprising by the fact that we hammered Laois by 22 points in the previous round, and had looked to be in fine fettle. Hopefully the players learned their lesson and it was a huge wake up call I expect us to get things back on track in Ennis and win by 2 or 3 points. Should be an almighty battle

Not too familiar with the current Clare team. I presume a lot of them have been promoted from the U21s. Any player we should keep a close eye on? I belive Darach Honan is a very dangerous player that can cause a lot of damage.

Tony Kelly was the Clare minor captain, but ask to have him brought it, he just did his leaving last month. Darach Honan is just back from a bad injury.

If I was a betting man I would say Dublin by 4 points, but Clare are going for goals I would think with that forward setup, might turn into a shoot out

I'm tipping Clare for this one. They're under a little bit of pressure to get a result. Massive game for Dublin but I think home advantage will swing it.

It''s going to be funny to get the reactions of the Dublin fans to Cusack Park (it's a sh1t hole btw)

Ah don't be so modest. Its a lovely tight compact ground. :p

Cusack Park is not that bad -pretty old, but not the worst venue in the country.

Should be a great battle alright. Darach Honan has the potential to cause havoc, but then again he is just back from a big injury.
Dublin can't be as bad as they were the last day and will be keen to atone.

It's a great pitch, but the "facilities" in the ground leave a lot to be desired. I would recommend all supporters relieve themselves before going to the ground.

Hmm...interesting team. Morey and Collins is an all-new midfield partnership, yes? Slightly surprised that Donnellan and O'Connell are both moved back, but I'm sure they'll do just as well in the half-back line, two fine hurlers. O'Connell particularly, think he's class.

Was Tony Kelly not a back for the underage teams? Anyway, I remember seeing him before, seriously talented hurler. Lynch and Clancy though...meh. Don't think either of them are oustanding.

Honan has potential but whether he has form? He's always been a bit inconsistent. Is Ryan dropped?? Bit harsh on him, if so, he's a very good player. Conlon and McGrath are the two dangermen up front though... how about that guy Cunningham, thought he looked good in the league final??

Bit harsh...I like Cusack Park. The compactness is good, you feel fairly close to the action. I was at the RSC in Waterford tonight, felt like I was about a mile away from the pitch.

Set up for a cracking encounter this evening with Davy vs Daly. Clare by a point for me.

If Dublin can get over whatever mental block they have going on, they should be well capable of matching most teams. The more I watch Dublin the more I think that the management are the problem. If things start to go wrong on the pitch they don't seem to have a plan B. Also, a big issue I see is this short passing game they are using to often. Its not working for them and should be left to the footballers. Almost certainly going to be a good game tonight, and I hope Dublin play to their abilities and put the league and the Kilkenny game out of their minds, and if they do I would expect Dublin to win by about 5pts. Really is a make or break game for Daly though. Lose tonight and he has to go.

I half agree with you here. Yes if Dublin get their heads right they can be a tough match for anybody,Kilkenny included but they just have an issue when it comes to the do or die clashes when the pressure mounts. They were heavily tipped 2 weeks ago for some bizarre reason. I do not think it is the management though.I think it is the players and the injuries that have really affected and curbed Dublins progress. I really think the issues are a short term problem. As the minors and under 21s showed, there is a lot of talent in Dublin to keep them in the top tier of hurling.

That was an issue I thought was very much the case in 2009 when we really only had Dotsy as corner forward. He was relied on too heavily but I think with the availability of Keaney and Ryan O Dwyer and Sutcliffe, there is more of a spread of scoring threats.

One would have to say that the likelihood of him walking away is very possible should we lose tonight. I can;t see anybody better replacing him though to be honest. Should Daly go, I would love to see the DCB make a serious attempt to acquire the services of Brian Cody.He respects Dublin hurlers a lot and I know he is a Kilkenny man through and through but the challenge may be appealing.Doubt it would happen anytime soon while Kilkenny are at the summit.

Getting the train down to Ennis in a couple of hours. Never really felt this nervous excitement when supporting the Dublin hurlers before. I guess most of it stems from the fact that last year was such an unprecedented success, but this year has been a disaster, results-wise. One solitary win against a shocking Laois team is not really a fair reflection of this Dublin side. A draw against Tipp and one point defeats to Kilkenny and Cork in the league showed that we are still at a decent level, however all of this has now been possibly undone by another demoralising defeat to Kilkenny.

I can't call tonights game, one way or the other. On the one hand the Dubs should have enough if they play to their strengths. If Rushe starts full-forward and they try and launch the ball into him, 10-15 minutes should be enough time to tell if it has worked or not. It worked extremely well against Laois, but failed miserably against Kilkenny. They can't afford to give away free's at the rate they did against Kilkenny, Shefflin got 9 points from free's and had the comfort of missing a few others.

I haven't seen a whole lot of Clare, save the Waterford game and a couple of the league meetings. They're a team on the up, no doubt fired up and full of confidence. They probably deserved more from the Waterford game, and will be doing everything they can in front of a home crowd to stay in the Championship.

Have a feeling it could be a very, very intense game. And it has all the makings of a cracker.

Well then it is just our bad luck Seanie Johnston couldn't line out for 30 seconds for Vincents or O Tooles or any of the clubs in Dublin.

Cusack Park is one of the best pitches in the country and is a big pitch, the rest of the stadium is a disgrace. Just terraced steps with f all facilities and a joke of a stand that holds about 500 people.
Shameful for a GAA mad county.
But sure as **** we'll rack up 100k in expnses this season nonetheless.
Would love to go to the game but am babysitting and you wouldn't bring a child near that stadium.

Should be a 90+ point win for Clare according to my ex-Argentinian and Napoli striker source.

Would be delighted to see Davy win though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,729 ✭✭✭Pride Fighter

It's on TV3 now. Throw in in 30 minutes.

I still think Clare will win. They have the better hurlers in terms of skill IMO. But Dublin are physically a few years ahead of Clare. Should be close but can see Clare 10 points up after 55 minutes, and Dublin will reel them in to about 3 points at the end.

Do yourself a favour and never come to St. Conleth's Park in Newbridge, you wouldn't bring a dog there.

Hope Clare do well, you got to love Davy Fitz.

    Dublin looking very good.

    TV3
Point looked over from the live camera angle. And what do they do? Show a replay from a useless camera angle which shows nothing.

Good first half, very intense and some nice scores. All to play for.

TV3 really do need new cameramen and commentators though.

They're not TV 3's cameramen. They are a contracted outfit who do all the sports and more. Its the producer and director that are responsible for the various camera angles.

Not hugely impressed by Dublin only four points from play thus far. Ref giving Clare some frees since the sending off save them sfa before that . Dublin freetaker taken off

Great 2nd half from Clare but Dublin blew it too, shocking shooting and far too many wides, especially at the start of the 2nd half when the game was in the balance.
