So, here we are, EVO 2012 will starting in literally a few minutes from when this post is made, are you hype?

    Here is the stream(s)

    http://evo2012.s3.amazonaws.com/live/index.html

so, who does everyone think will do well this year? I reckon Justin Wong has a good chance this year, he has being really solid lately, taking both AE and Marvel at CEO. Of course, there is bound to be surprises in store over the weekend and that is what makes EVO so hype.

SoulCalibur V was soooooooo hype last night. Didn't get to watch it all because my eyes were dying when it got to about 3am. All the people I'd heard about - Belial, Keev and Kayane - have all been knocked out. Here's the top 8 in Calibur:

    Xephukai
    Something Unique
    Shen Chan
    CRNA|Ruka

    CafeID|Kura
    Shining Decopon
    Kamaage
    Woahhzz

Xephukai and Kamaage are my favourites. Amazing, amazing play.

I watched a fair bit of the Persona 4 Arena sidestream until it got laggy, but P4A is looking really, really fun. I think I'll main Akihiko. :P

Oh and here are the top 8 for SFIV:

    Winners Bracket

    WW.MCZ|Infiltration (Akuma, Gouken)
    MCZ|Daigo Umehara (Ryu)
    Human Bomb (Sakura)
    CVPR|PR Balrog (Balrog)

    Losers Bracket

    AVerMedia|Gamerbee (Adon)
    BT|Dieminion (Guile)
    eLivePro.Qanba|XiaoHai (Cammy)
    TH|Poongko (Seth)

    Got all info from here.

Rare footage of Daigo at the circus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,943 ✭✭✭Burning Eclipse

So... Predictions and wishes for top 8's tonight - would anybody like to share?

Street Fighter: I think Daigo is gonna do it. If not him, Infiltration. I would love to see Dieminion win it however. If he was a little cooler, I think he could have beat Infiltration in the Gouken/Guile match.

Marvel: I think the winner of Combo/FChamp is gonna go all the way, but I'd love to see Combofiend win it out. He is such a great and creative player, and he deserves a big win imo. He looked so comfortable against Wong in top 16.

Other games... I have no opinion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,333 ✭✭✭Sairus

Man that's a fairly mental spread of characters for SF4.

    Isn't it brilliant?

Last year we got Yun/Fei/Viper... And not much else.

What time's is the Street Fighering on today, or have I already missed it? Damn time differences are melting my brain. Also, last night's Mk wasn't as impressive as I was expecting. It was just lacking something, but I can't put my finger on what. Hopefully tonight's will be better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,919 ✭✭✭1man3letters

mk9 top 8, ALOT of upsets

    1. Pig of the Hut (Kenshi) - Winners
    2. EGP xBlades (Liu Kang) - Winners
    3. CoCo FOREVER KING - Winners
    4. KN|EMP Perfect Legend (Kung Lao) - Winners
    5. vVv|NOS CD Jr (Jax) - Losers
    6. CoCo m2dave (Freddy) - Losers
    7. EGP Tyrant (Jax) - Losers
    8. IGL MIT (Scorpion) - Losers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,699 ✭✭✭deathrider

It was crazy to see a Scorpion throwing down like that. And against Detroit of a all people too.

You have to take into account the pressures and sheer lenght of a tournament day especially EVO where towards the end of the of the first day players could have been there for 16 hours or so and it's 50+ degrees outside.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,699 ✭✭✭deathrider

Don't get me wrong, I'm not putting the players down, they are all outstanding, and I'm sure it's a grueling weekend for each of them. But it just didn't make for as entertaining a stream as the MLG did a wee while ago.

So SF, what time are we expecting it? My net's cray limited at the moment, and I want to make sure I'm something with internet access when it's on.

Should start streaming the finals in a few minutes!

    My predictions:

    SCV: Kamaage (Mitsurugi)

Marvel: Combofiend with Jwong in second. (That would be great!)

    SSF4donkeypunchAE2012: Daigo

Bear in mind I only play SCV xD.

Last 8 of SF4 should be best of 5. Seriously. Great players going out after 90 seconds. :(

    Full results are now here.

KOF XIII finals were insanely hype, and actually had more viewers than SF4 I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,229 ✭✭✭Dreddybajs

They had more viewers because they ran massively into what was supposed to be MVC3's timeslot and AE started ridiculously late because of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,762 ✭✭✭Yreval

Didn't see this live, but the final of the ST Tournament of Legends was awesome. Some great moments.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 378 ✭✭stev0knev022

Congrats to infi, he played absolutely amazing, you gotta hand it to Champ too, that guy is just an amazingly smart marvel player, he makes the right decisions so often.

I think he shoulda lost to both Chris G and Combofiend but at the most critical moments he did exactly what he was supposed to do and they didn't. Chris G's raw tag when champ did spear flame was a catastrophe.

ST was incredible too, that game is too good and you gotta give it up for KOF, that was an amazing top 8 and a wonderful showcase for what is obviously a really good game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,084 ✭✭✭✭Kirby

Chris G's raw tag when champ did spear flame was a catastrophe..

I know right? that was like online random stuff. "Oh, I better tag him out so he can regen" knowing full well he would get creamed on the way in and lose the match anyway. Tournament nerves tbh. Makes people do stupid things.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,363 ✭✭✭Misty Chaos

I was rather surprised to see a Tira take Soul Calibur 5, considering the fact that the SC scene consider her low tier and she got severely hit by the nerf bat in a balance patch earlier this year. Props to Shining Decopon though for taking it.

Speaking as someone who doesn't have KOF13 ( but does watch Juicebox play it on hi stream, ) I found myself constantly turning around to look at the monitors set up for the stream during the KOF13 finals when hype moments occurred. Shame it caused everything else to be held up so badly ( it doesn't help that time was wasted by that Takken Tag 2 presentation - ah well, gotta pay the bills, I guess ) but I'm glad to see it get it's day in the park regardless.

Marvel top 8 was good, champ deserved it in the end of what was a very close set, regardless of what you think of the guy.

AE was kind of lackluster compared to last year. Though then again, there wasn't really any killer matches that people were dying to see go down like last year. The fact it started ridiculously late ( the type of late that had several of us worried that we'd have to leave the XGC before the finals as our time would be up ) didn't help either. That said, Infiltration deserved the win, some of those reaction raging demons were SICK.

All in all, a good EVO. Though if you ask me, I kind of think last year's EVO Marvel & AE top 8s were better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,938 ✭✭✭mackg

AE top 8 would have been a lot better if a lot of the matches weren't so one sided. I don't even play Marvel and thought the finals were brilliant, Magus and Yipes would be entertaining if they were commentating on Tetris.

Should give ST a go at casuals sometime if you enjoyed the top 8 stev0, I'm always up for playing it.

I think Chris G was trying to do the Kuboto escape when he did that raw tag, only way it makes any sense.
