Left the boot open - and it rained :-(

Hi guys...left the boot open on Sunday for about an hour by mistake and it rained...try to dry out the inside when i copped on but now I have that damp horrible smell in my car...What would you suggest I do to get rid of it..Should I take out the boot carpet altogether?...Its an 08 Audi and I have a wedding this weekend so keen to get rid of the smell!

If I were you, I'd get a price to have the boot wet valeted. Get it done sooner rather than later!

Take out as much from the boot as you can, carpets, trim, etc. Place it somewhere warm or ventilated so it can dry off. It will take a day or two. Have a look in the boot, spare wheel well for trapped water, get it out. If you get a dry day, leave the boot open (close it when it rains mind ).

Febreze might help with smells, but getting the carpets/Trim dry will be the biggest improvement.

You can also get some moisture traps in Hardware stores, they help with getting the residual moisture out.

Take the boot carpet out, scrub the interior and the carpet with a carpet cleaner like 1001 or Vanish and leave open to air dry. Just check the weather to make sure that you can leave it open for a long as possible. Leave the carpet in your house for a day or two, preferably near a window that gets sunshine if the weather is going to be really bad.

Also start the car every once in a while. The bulb will kill your battery if the rain didn't kill the bulb
