out in a big grass field Dicky with the grass just starting to grow after been grazed as they are feicers to catch back up if its too long because they have a tendancy to burrow;)... just put them down head under wing(that side to the ground go back fetch the dog and have hime on a line(not too long) and hunt him downwind of the birds.... plant out two or three 20 ft intervals or so and when the dog comes into scent steady it up and gradually walk it into the bird then use a stick to turn the bird it will then fly away three goes and the dog should cotton on... will introduce the launcher later on this is just an excerise Andy Cullen told me bout to get the pups pointing from an early age...

sorry to hear that Gary, ive been told that if you can stay away from the wing method as it only encourages sight pointing, personally i cant see nothing wrong with it as its great for really young pups to get them started though maybe not good for older pups

So it looks like the hunting dog bug has rubbed off on the rest of my family. I had an english pointer that died, which my mother grew very fond off (pic below). I came home the other evening to find these two new additions!

It's gas you have a Vizla looking muscular, smooth coated & concentrated ready for the season
Then 2 shaggy setters with the tongues hanging out looking a but 'softer' after an off season

Ah id say theyl b kept at home as family pets but i intend training them.Itl save me bringing the springer now when im going home! My dad heard about them through work i think, theyr english pointer, llewian setter cross. The owner said he has bred two litters before and sold them for good money straight away but this year theyr slow to move, needless to say they were got at a very good price as a result!

    EPointer,
The three of them had just hunted about 40 acres of maize.
The 2 setters tore it asunder( hence the shaggy look)
The Vizsla is much smarter(more lazy, maybe) and simply ambles along at his ease.

The setters are simply hunting machines-Gordon is of scottish breeding and is a joy to watch, particularly out on a mountain.
The English setter is of trialling breeding and is very fast(as in greyhound fast) to hunt a field.
Also, even though it is the off season, the 2 of them get serious excercise every day.

Give me the Vizlas style any day. Lazy or not I always like a handy dog that works a field without sprinting.

PS was only slagging about the setters. They are obviously well looked after
