As the title says I want to start jogging. Lookin to buy a good pair of trainers. Will be doing on concrete. What are the best options out there. Need something that will last.

As I said I'm only beginning so I'll be starting off slow walk jog walk jog. Any advice on good trainers available at the mo.

Get the gait analysis done and find out whats best for you.

Personally I swear by Asics, but my gait is normal so I dont need extra support anywhere.

I do not run on concrete, I need to protect my joints, so you might mention that in the shop as you will probably need better shock absorption.

Thanks for reply. I know concretes not ideal but will be bringing the dog sometimes on our usual route. I must admit iv never even heard of fair analysis

You can get it done in lots of places - Ive had it done in more than one and the results are always the same.

Elverys do it, so do most triathlon shops.

Basically they film your gait on a treadmill and determine (computer assisted) if you pronate (ie, ankle rolling in too far or out too far) or if you are going over on the ball of your foot too much or running on the sides of your feet or any other way of running where you could cause injury or need extra support.

Its good. Anything that saves injury right!

Gait analysis is free in places like Elverys, Runways, Amhpibian King etc. helps you get right pair of runners. Tell them your budget and they'll find you a pair that suits. You'll have to spend 80 to 90 euro probably to get a decent pair though. Most brands have good runners - don't worry about only going for Asics - those days are gone. Personally I avoid Asics now as their shoes are usually heavier / clunky. You'll get as good results as gait analysis using a simple test at home -

if you're fairly neutral I can recommend Nike Luarfly 2 in Elverys where it's only 65 euro.

Oh yeah, totally agree with this. Im just happy with them personally.

Dont let them fob you off on something more expensive either. I can wear child sizes and have been told in the past that the child sizes are not designed for the weight of an adult female. I think this is rubbish because one lady could be 8 stone and another could be 16 stone and unless each shoe size comes in weight sizing also then clearly the materials can withstand plenty of variation. Ive run in child sizes without injury and Ive also run in the ladies sizes without injury.

+1 on video gait analysis. I'd steer clear of the other website. They talk about the heel striking the ground first which is a bad idea. Your feet should hit the ground underneath you not in front of you or you'll have a braking effect every stride.

I have used AK several times and been happy with them. I've heard enough bad things about Elvery's to steer clear of them although I've never asked them for gait analysis myself.

To help avoid injury keep your hip flexors loose, your core strong and use your glutes!

    Agreed, I have used both...

Elverys had a board young fella who was interested in selling me one shoe and nothing else and never sounded like he knew what he was talking about.

Amphibian King is staffed by folks who run, and when I did the video thing [on a small stretch of track, not a treadmill] I was presented with a range of different runners to try and evaluate.

just to be specific, it's the paper towel test on this page specifically that I'm recommendind you try out to get an idea of your gait. it's actually fairly accurate.
