Video of Aggressive Audi Driver on M50

Caught this yesterday, video could be better if my editing skills were but click into 1080 on youtube and it should be clear enough.

I recorded this yesterday driving on the m50 in Dublin, Ireland. At the start of the video, the driver is behind me and continuously flashing me to pull left, even though I'm overtaking the 5 or 6 cars you can see. When I have a big enough gap to pull left into, he even beeps at me for not going as fast as he wanted.

He speeds up considerably and is forced to brake soon after as another car pulls out to overtake, he flashes them also, they pull in and he continues on until a small white van pulls out, who again he flashes.

The white van pulls left and you probably can't see it in the video, but the driver of the white van sticks his hand out the window and gives the Audi the middle finger. Audi reacts aggressively by motioning to hit into the white van. It happened just as there was a break in video files so there's a black screen gap just after (I'm not the best at video editing!) but you can see how far the white van pulled to his left to avoid the Audi if he did carry out his aggressive side sweep.

I wonder would the traffic corps boards members be interested in such a video?

    Just to clarify some points:

The camera is a wide angle lens, this means the cars I'm overtaking appear to have a bigger gap than they actually do, I would have pulled over sooner if doing so wouldn't have forced the vehicle behind to have to brake to not be too close to me. If it was an emergency vehicle it would be a lot different, the cars behind me would create space for me to pull in etc.

secondly, the video is sped up considerably, the only real time footage is just before I pause it to catch the reg and just before the side sweep happens. The rest is sped up, there's also a difference in frame rate in the video making it appear even faster.

    Edit: now it is.

You're better off watching on youtube so you can change to 1080 if you can, just click the title of the video itself and it'll open up youtube in a separate window/tab :)

    Thanks. Complete Muppet driver.

Shur you are driving like a bad ass too...

the dummy lane change at the end was pretty stupid and quite dangerous.

You could have pulled over safely a bit quicker to let him past to be fair though. :pac:

I wonder how many audi drivers checked in like me, just to check it wasnt them!

It's just shows the amount of people driving in the middle lane is huge when the left lane should be used.

What speed were you traveling at? Might be just the video but it seems like you both were flooring it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,216 ✭✭✭gerryo777

Looks to me like a pair of speeders giving it a lash down the M50.

Both cars are overtaking traffic at a serious rate.

I would question people who see the need to have a video camera recording on their dashboard.

Ever heard the term, looking for trouble?

That whole situation would not have occurred if the middle lane morons had been driving correctly. The guy in the Audi is a complete dick for having a swipe at white van man.

Dash cam's are the best thing that could happen for road safety.
All we need now is a garda email address for video clips just like the phone hotline.

F**k me that Audi driver is a tool

However both him & the OP seemed to be driving WAY too fast (although could just be because it was a video)

Yeah one of the 1st things I noticed was the almost empty lane 1 (as per usual in the M50)

Doesn't excuse the Audi driver though, he's still a complete dick head

    Drive an Audi do you?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,931 ✭✭✭Jimmy Bottlehead

I'd report it. The Audi driver seems like a lunatic. At best you might save a life but reporting it, at worst, the gardai will look into it and do nothing.
I reported a car down in Sligo a few weeks ago that had a very probably drunk driver. Weaving all over the road, erratic speed, nearly crashed into a few oncoming cars - as far as I know, the gardai had a word with the driver.

No doubt the Audi driver is a clown, but you were driving along in the overtaking lane too op. you even followed him back into it. That wasn't an overtaking manoeuvre.

Ps. Is that frame split from a poor camera or just the way it's set. Would really bug me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,003 ✭✭✭bijapos

Send the video to the Guards and to the Traffic Corps. They might prosecute, at the least you can follow up and see if they gave him a warning. Might stop him in future.

The video looks like it's speeded up in a couple of spots, just to shorten it.

Why were 95% of the cars in the middle and right lane doing 50mph ?

Its a bit silly moaning about a speeding car when the OP clearing was speeding aswell so he could keep up with the Audi just so he could record it....a bit hypocritical me thinks.

ffs its not about speed. Read the thread from the beginning .
Its about the van being forced off the road !

Maybe not but he was clearly speeding so in fact he was driving stupidly aswell so again its hypocritical to complain about someone elses driving when he was speeding himself.

Probably gonna be slated but in my experience anyway, 90% of audi drivers are all the same, the worst/most impatient drivers on the road. Tis amazing what a 1.9 lump originating from a tractor & four rings on the bonnet seems to do to these people.

i bought a dash cam too and have caught some pretty interesting things so far BUT how do you compress the flies as to put them on here????

    :)

lol yes the four rings on the front and back of car have penetrated deep into my mind inflating my sense of self importance, decreased my ability to drive and have dramatically reduced my patience. Spot on sir.

its not always a 1.9 TDI engine in them ;)

If someone is flashing behind me I will generally assume its the garda or that there is some kind of emergency unfolding in the car behind either way I get out of the way as quickly as I can provided of course it is safe to do so.
The aggressive and foolish behaviour of the audi driver put a lot of peoples lives at risk and all the more reason to stay out of their way. Like the ad says there is only 'before and after' an accident this looked like a video of the 'before' a serious accident, driving sends some people a bit crazy in a steel cage rage sort of way so just stay out of their way and don't aggravate them anymore if at all possible it's seriously not worth it, just other cars being on the road seems to wind some drivers up and you cant negotiate with that sort of attitude never mind trying at a 100k on a motorway.
If white van had crashed and someone was seriously hurt or killed audi would be looking at jail time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,777 ✭✭✭sentient_6

Just to say, ya audi is a pr*ck etc etc, but does any else think white van man shouldnt have moved to lane 3 with the audi plowing up behind him? What happened to using mirrors? He's lucky the audi didnt go into the back of him by the looks of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,106 ✭✭✭dar83

Guys, if it's one of the Dashcam's that are widely available at the moment then it records with a fisheye lens, meaning things appear faster than they actually are. Might explain the 'speeding' element. ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,435 ✭✭✭✭Pawwed Rig

Is this video in real time?

It looks to me like you are both flooring it. Also the OP definitely could have pulled in to let the Audi pass earlier and seemed to speed up to catch the Audi (racing maybe)
The OP is driving way too close to the car in front as is the Audi.

Would the Guards be interested in it? the cynical part of me says that they would do nothing about it

Completely agree. Lifes too short to be getting all worked up by the stupidity of others. If I was in the white van I would have let the guy go past with a smile on my face rather than piss off an already aggressive driver even more.

Yeah that statement loses you all creditability. To suggest that a car brand can suddenly make drivers "the worst/most impatient drivers on the road" is outlandish, a bad driver is a bad driver irrespective of the brand they drive.

I thought the white van pulled out in front of the audi as well,id say he didnt check before.

I think rat cams are dangerously inaccurate, esp with wide angle lens etc. footage from them can be easily edited by anyone thats PC literate (even the mac crowd could manage it:p). The only way they should be taken seriously by the cops is if they are a sealed unit where the owner cannot edit out bits, I think the insurance ones in the US are like that?..

OP, given the middle lane idiots usually run at about 90kph, lens or not I'd say you were doing at least 110+ the way you were passing him.

Maybe, just maybe the guy needed to be somewhere fast?

Family member had a heart attack last year, and I had to get home fast. I flashed every stupid retard who dawdled in the overtaking lane(s) on the way to get there before he died, and don't regret it. Some people who have have f**k all consideration of others get indignant when they're flashed for incorrect lane usage. I have and do drive when its ok to do so, and don't apologise for it.

edit: I drive an audi too, and I'm not a total c*nt behind the wheel..not all the time anyway..;)

Perhaps. And why did he need to swerve towards the van that had held him up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,387 ✭✭✭glynf

Perhaps. And why did he need to swerve towards the van that had held him up?

How would I know what was going through the guys head?

My point is that sometimes people may feel they need to go quicker than the limit for a reason, give them the benefit of the doubt-it could be a genuine reason. Don't straight away jump to the conclusion they're a lunatic with no respect for Joe public, getting upset about it, playing amateur cop & trying to slow them down etc.

Just a fact of life there will always be some speedfreak/plain stupid/ignorant drivers on the road going too quick. If people drove in the correct lanes, and keep left as much as possible when they see one coming, it makes their behaviour slighty less dangerous on the road for all.

So you can speculate as to why he needed to get everyone out of his way, but you can't speculate as to why he swerved at the van?

Your point re. his speeding was taken, but I don't think this is what is bothering most posters.

If you want to make a complaint op, ring that Traffic Watch crowd. I'm sure they'd then contact you looking for your video.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,387 ✭✭✭glynf

Why does the reason he did it even matter? It was utterly ridiculous, but in my experience not the worst I've seen by a long shot.

However, if people would use the motorway properly, keep left, and maybe look in the damn mirror once in a while, this sort of thing would not be such an issue. Drive on a few unrestricted autobahns-many of them 2 laners often not half as good as that section of the M50, and see how easily people can get it right.
