Chemicals That Increase Belly Fat

    There are certain chemicals in our food supply, water supply, and the environment that increase stomach fat by stimulating our bodies to hold onto it. These chemicals are called xenoestrogens , these are found in pesticides, herbicides and petrochemicals. They have an estrogenic effect inside our bodies. Unfortunately these xenoestrogens are even found in household cleaners and cosmetics as well, making them near impossible to avoid regardless of whether you eat organic or live in a relatively low-pollution area!
    -Thoughts please.

    its another excuse for fat people. Oh its not my fault, its not my fault.

    If this were true everybody would be fat. Everybody cleans their house! The guy with the six pack, the girl whos very slim, they just make better food choices than those overweight.

    The effect of diet and lifestyle choices so greatly outweighs the effect of xenoestrogens that in reality they cannot be attributed as a factor in the amount of body fat someone has.

    Basically, just eat good, be active, be happy and don't stress about silly things like 'am I getting fat because of this floor cleaner I'm using?'.

    The impact of xenoestrogens is likely to be real, but most research has only shown an effect due to exposure in the womb of mice and rats, and even then it's not a huge effect. It is scary that BPA is found in the umbilical cords of most babies born in the industrial world though.

    The biggest source of xenoestrogens is not chemicals in cleaners but food, such as soy, flax and:
    * Coffee
    * Clover, red clover tea, alfalfa sprouts
    * Sunflower seeds
    * Queen Anne’s lace (wild carrot)
    * Pomegranate – The Greeks used this plant as a contraceptive!
    * Dates
    * Fennel
    * Licorice, red clover, yucca, hops (beer) and motherwort
    * Bloodroot, ocotillo, mandrake, oregano, damiana, pennyroyal, verbena, nutmeg, tumeric, yucca, thyme, calamus rt., red clover, goldenseal, licorice, mistletoe, cumin, fennel, chamomile, cloves

    I would definitely avoid licorice if you're a man, it's been shown to measurably lower testosterone!

    But yeah, I really doubt a good wholefoods diet is likely to be derailed by xenoestrogens, unless the foods they come in form the basis of your diet.

    I use to love licorice then I binged on a bag from Holland and can't stand the stuff.

    I remember reading something about concerns about the female contraceptive pill getting into male water supply and effecting testosterone. I can't remember how exactly it was suppose to get into the supply (since we use rainwater) but on a bodybuilding forum it was enough reason to validate some posters "blast and cruise" supplementation.

    Unfortunately not! Xenoestrogens have also been linked to playing a part in “precocious puberty”. There is chemicals being used in the manufacture of plastics, and even some food preservatives to extend the shelf life of processed products that have being introduced to our modern daily lives in recent times. We are exposed to unnatural amounts of Xenoestrogens and other harmful chemicals.
