Fat Metaboliser tablets -Holland & Barrett

Just wondering if anyone here has any feedback on Fat Metaboliser tablets from Holland & Barrett, made by Nutrition Headquarters.

I gave up the smokes 12 weeks ago and so far so good. But I put on around 10 kilos doing so- I replaced smoking with comfort eating. To make matters worse I was already over weight to begin with. I shot up to 121 kilos (6ft tall male) and was horrified that it converted to 19 stone- I've never been as heavy in my life :(

Anyway I got back down the gym and have been doing 3 x 1hr cardio sessions since 2 weeks ago. Also keeping a strict regime on what I'm eating too. Downloaded MyFitnessPal and weigh in every 3-4 days. So in 2 weeks I've gone from 121kg to 116kg, quite happy with that. Just yesterday I started taking 2 x Fat Metaboliser tablets in the hope of speeding it up even more. I intend to leave my fitness regime and diet constant so I'll report back here on the 12th of July to see if the tablets have had any measurable effect.

But in the meantime I'm just looking to see how others have found them ?

Pretty much everything Ive ever read on fat burners says they are nonsense...

If fat burners worked - obesity would hardly be a problem - most of these have caffeine as a main ingredient - Have an espresso or two instead and stop wasting money

You have made the initial steps - be consistent, give it time (the rest of you life)

    oK-

    Brekkie-
Alernate days- muesli & low fat milk or 2 x scrambled eggs on one slice of wholegrain bread. Cup of coffee w/ sweetner & milk.

    Lunch
2 slices of wholemeal bread with smoked salamon and 1 bowl of New England Butternet soup (delish and only 107 calories per 300g serving!) OR 1 x low fat Insomnia Sambo (usually Chicken & Stuffing or Tuna Salad, coffee & packet of low fat Cheese & Online (Treble Crunch, 87 cal)

    Dinner
Either a steak or chicken kiev (non-processed) with either carrots & broccili or mixed salad with lower fat dressing.

Snacks - I have some Fruesli bars on hand (109 cal). I also have smoothies every 2nd day or so, typically either strawberry & banana or strawberry & peach. A dash of OJ used to liquidise them.

If I get a soft drink I'm choosing Coke or Sprite Zero but I haven't really done so very often. If I need a quick snack other than a Fruesli bar I'll got for the 87cal Tayto.

Alcohol wise I've only drunk once in 2 weeks and can generally take it or leave it too. Was out at the Chili Peppers concert on Tuesday and smuggled in a naggin of vodka and drunk that with diet coke. Still added up to 600+ calories but I'd been down the gym that day so it just wiped out my efforts in terms of calories burned. It really made me think twice about alcohol full stop.

That's about it, sometimes if I am over at a mates house in the evening I might be forced into getting something quick to eat but have generally been getting a 6 inch Subway which is less than 600 cal.

I have more or less cut out potatoes as I can take or leave them but bread is trickier - I like to have eggs on toast and also salmon on brown bread. It is difficult to replace those with eggs only or salmon and salad. I don't mind salad but too much of it bores me to be honest.

My Fitness Pal set me a target of 1720cal per day. I'm averaging about 1600 per day over the last 2 weeks when the cardio regime is taken into account.

Excersise wise I'm going to the gym 3 times a week. I do 10 minutes on each of the bike, threadmill, cross trainer and rowing machine. Then I go and swim breaststroke for 20 minutes so an hour all up. Apart from that I am on Dublin Bikes for another 10 mins per day Mon-Thurs and when I work from home on days like today I take a bike ride into the country for 25 mins / 5 miles. When I walk anywhere I do so at a brisk pace to burn more calories. This week I've been feeling my fitness coming back and yesterdays gym workout was the easiest yet so I'll up the intensity on the machines on Sunday' session.

I know there is a dim view on these Fat Metaboliser tablets from some but the reason I'm trying them is because I know I have a slow metabolism, at least compared to mates. A friend can go out and drink 10 pints and not put on any weight, if I do likewise it will pile on. I Googled it and read lots of positive reviews but also negative ones. I am well aware that the positive ones could be from internet marketers working for the company, I know from my own job that this type of stuff goes on.

So was just looking to get views here of people who have tried them and what they thought. Like I said in the OP my diet and cardio regime will remain constant over the next 2 weeks. I already know I've lost 5kg by sticking to it so if I lose 6 or 7 or more kg over the next two then I'll have deemed them a success. If not I'll stop taking them.

For the nutritionists here the indegredients are Green Tea (250mg), Vitimin B6 2.5mg, chrominium 200ug, cayenne pepper 5mg, L-camatine tartrate 10mg, kola nut 50mg, Ula Ursi 25mg

What you Are currently doing will get possibly another stone maybe stone and a half off you if you are lucky as you keep it up.

After that you will HAVE to ditch the bread as your metabolism is not slow it's just deranged from the excessive calories, insulin spikes from consuming refined carbs and lack of exercise. Added to that it's likely you have not been say 80-90kg (post your height) for quite some time now so your body will have taken some time to adjust t the way it is hence change is going to be slow and steady (will be quicker if you cut the wheat and hit the weights in your training)

Overall the fat burners will make bugger all difference and you would be better off getting fish oils, digestive enzymes and probiotics

one thing on increasing your metabolism...

do FAST cardio. if youre on the bike, treadmill etc work hard. dont go through the motions.

the guy from "I want to look like that guy" increased his metabolism by 200calories per day in 4/5months through weight lifting and 15minute very hard cardio.

Yeah I was reading through that other thread on here about bread and its negative effects on weight loss and had kinda accepted that I'd have to look at giving it up. Other than that though I think I'm getting enough veggies, fruit, fish & eggs.

I also didn't mention that I'm drinking 3 litres of water per day and more on gym days. I've also just started a daily cup of green tea as of yesterday so hopefully that will help too.

You are right on me not being 80kg-90kg for a long time, at least 10 years. My weight was typically at 100kgs for a god few years and then this year it crept up to 110kg. I was eating a hell of a lot of Centra /Spar deli foods and also my fair share of McDonalds, pizza etc. Then I gave up the smokes and another 10kg went on through comfort eating. I'm 6ft tall so my ideal weight lies somewhere between 75-85kg. It is going to be a long hard slog getting there but I hope to make it by Xmas. I'm climbing a mounting in Nepal in October and I know from doing a similar climb a few years back I lost 2 stone in 3 weeks so hopefully something similar happens this time out.

Good advice, my plan is to increase the intensity of my cardio by 10% every two weeks. So for example I've been rowing 2km in 10 mins on the machine but next week I'm going to aim to up that to 2,200m in 10 mins. Down at the gym last Friday I didn't feel all that wrecked after it so I need to up the intensity from tomorrow for sure.
