he should have pulled out the whole - "i ran out of diesel the other day and a kind farmer gave me some from his tractor" - works everytime

I thought the participants of Tallafornia were paid a small fortune - especially considering what Nikita did to her reputation.

Thought they hated all things rural on that show?

The voice of reason? You're thinking of a different guy.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Gotta feel sorry for small operators driven to cut corners to make ends meet. One of the easiest options to save money for sure is to use illegal fuel for your taxi.

Why the hell do we allow green diesel at all? Why are we subsidising farmers even more than the EU does already? Scrap green diesel - a polluting farmer should pay as much as a polluting taxi driver

And for that matter, a polluting taxi driver should pay as much as a polluting commuter. Scrap cheap taxi motor tax. Scrap all motor tax and make all polluters pay it as and when we buy our pollutants (fuel)

It's TV3, so I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't paid at all and lured in with promises of free boarding, food and 'exposure'. These are the kind of saps who'd fall for that line too.

I did hear a quote that they were being paid €4,000 per nightclub appearance, but I imagine that those bookings have since dried up. And part of the reason that these reality TV show 'stars' command such high fees is that appearing on these things generally make them unemployable in the 'real world'.

Now they're all 'agented up', so I'd say they'd be paid a decent amount for the new series. But still, that's a decent amount for a TV3 though (I'd guess around €10k for a few weeks filming), and it's easier to spend that on a ratings winner.

Woah, I used way too many 'inverted commas' in that post...

Hopefully Cormac will learn his lesson and also that grey goose vodka is too expensive.

there have been a few people recently I have heard, running their diesel cars on home heating oil, or a 50/50 blend of diesel and heating oil

How did he get caught tho?
It doesnt say in the article. I'm guessing someone ratted him up. Its not like the garda have random checkpoints testing your fuel - "hold on boy'o while i dip me wick in ya" :pac:

So someone must of ratted on him. "he's what?! making a fortune off that tv3 yolk, driving a taxi op top then buying tractor diesel? ring the guards on him!" .... you know yourself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,537 ✭✭✭✭Cookie_Monster

so why did he not simply blame whatever petrol station and say he had no idea it was marked fuel?

    Customs do it frequently.

I'm more surprised that he was capable of making an application to get a driving licence and then had the necessary motor skills to actually drive. Wonders never cease.

You do realise there is random check points that dip the tank, Customs and Garda are at them. In fact i see them all the time at certain locations.

Your knowledge on this disturbs me....

The word "legend" is used a bit too loosely to describe people these days, but it's safe to say, Cormac is a legend. This diesel thing changes nothing.

I could be wrong, but reading between the lines it kinda sounds like the car was written-off (unknown reason), impounded, and in the impound, it was found that the tank contained dodge fuel

Not saying its right or wrong. Just how the law sees it.

Well that a problem with the law. I thing I heard of a case where someone was pulled and he had gotten green diesel from a garage without known and it turned out to be true

I think I read somewhere that the Geordie Shore crowd were paid anything between £80-100 per day of filming, if the show is shot over 4weeks and we say thats 28 days then thats between £2240 - £2800 for filming for the month.

Handy if you can get it considering your living for free in a house and bills paid.

Doubt the Talifornia crowd are getting paid crazy money for the next series though.

Do you expect him to check the colour of the diesel in the pump before he puts it in his car ?

Not if the station was selling it for roughly the same as others were selling white diesel for.

I don't think you understand the trick. The fuel is sourced cheaper and allows the station to turn a better profit with illegal diesel.

I know Kelly, they didn't get paid anything for the show, they just got paid for promotions for the show. Obviously they had everything paid for, the house was actually massive, there was a massive second sitting room they didn't show on the show. They got paid for doing guest appearances and they were still doing that until about a months ago, I don't know if they still are.

I think he is the first person I ever heard of getting caught for agri D in dublin.
I know loads of people who use it and have been for the last 20 years.
None of them have ever been dipped. I've never ever seen dipping at any check point i've ever seen either.
The chances of getting caught must be tiny altogether.

There are checkpoints being set up pretty regularly in certain ares of Dublin,They include SW & revenue and of course the Garda, Most commercial vehicles are checked as are taxes and private buses.
