I'd like to go back on recommending the Ultimate Rotation Control app below. If you want rotation control with no lag issues, I'd recommend the Apex Launcher instead.

I've removed all the fancy effects, transitions, shadows etc.. and I have just two screens now, set up just as I need. The tablet is more responsive I find, battery life seems to be a tad longer too.

    Main app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anddoes.launcher

License file for the above (€2.99): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anddoes.launcher.pro

Widgets on the Dock, renaming and icon replacement at will, 8x8 Homescreen. Renaming of URL shortcuts. The list goes on and on..

Probably been mentioned a dozen times already, but just this one tiny app makes the Nexus 7 'complete' and normal, for me.

Ultimate Rotation Control (free to use for 7 days)

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.fameit.rotate

    Ultimate Rotation License (€1.99)

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.fameit.rotate_license

The app is very passive, you set it on one of a few default behaviour choices and you're done, no more input needed.

My Home Screen, horizontally, couch slouching bliss..

I'm thinking of getting a nexus 7. Saw one in argos today for 250 quid. Is that the price everywhere? I'm just trying to figure out if I actually need it, I have the galaxy s3 which I use all the time. Anyone want to help me decide? What is the benefit of having a tablet like this. Also haven't had time to read this thread but notice ye talking about screen separation. Is this a major problem and is it being rectified in new stock?

Yes Asus say newer batches dont have the screen issue. No one ever truly needs a tablet but when you get one you'll wonder why it took you so long to buy one.

Argos have 2 in stock, Cavan and Tralee :(

Lads just took delivery of my Nexus from Littlewoods and I notice the screen at the left side is a tiny bit raised. It's ever so slight however practically invisible...what do I do?

    Works with the Nexus 7.

    pppwidgets.png

    http://draisberghof.de/android/pppwidget.html
This widget allows the use of 3G modems and phones attached to USB host ports. These ports are mainly found on Android tablets.
    Features:

PPPD and Usb_ModeSwitch binaries (natively linked to Bionic) are included
    Autodetection of usable modem ports
Minimal configuration input required (in most cases just username, password and APN)
Provides full network awareness (all Android apps should see the connection)
    It's truly free. No ads.

I will be in the US at the end of the month, I was planning to buy a 16Gb version, it will work out about €60 cheaper but I am now wondering about the charger.
Could someone let me know what the charger looks like please? is it something I could swap with an Irish charger? does anyone forsee any problems with using (for example) a Irish phone charger on this device bought in US?

    Thanks

Its actually a usb plug so I'd say any plug that accept USB connections would be able to charge it. I'm fairly sure I used a different plug when i forgot my charger though I may just have charged it off my PC.

If you watch a unboxing video on youtube you can see a charger. You need to slide the socket connection onto the plug. I think the UK have something similar but US is different.

I bought one in Boston, the charger is an american two pin ,so you will need an adaptor .The charger has 2 amps output ,so anything else will take hours to charge it . Hardly Normal have the adaptors for 3 quid .

I just got in in the US for $266 (206 euro) a few days back. Just hope Google now works as good in Ireland as it does here.
The US charger will work in Ireland but you need an adapter.
You could also use any micro USB charger but it may take longer.

Some in stock in Argos, Athlone. What's the chances of these having a dodgy screen?
