    Good morning all,

As the title says, why are we not a member state of CERN? I would like to believe we are a country that has some fantastic science and engineering graduates and professionals who would love to work in such a project. I've always been interested in it since it began, reading about it, watching documentaries, and recently looking into how to get involved on their website, only to find out that all the opportunities to work their would be possible if Ireland was a member state. I don't want to start a rant but can anyone offer an answer as to why this is? Can we do anything about it?

I would hazard a guess that it's an economic issue where member states must financially support the project so it was avoided perhaps?

yeah I understand the economic issue now, but when this project started we weren't exactly short of cash. There are amazing opportunities there for student at the very least, just slightly frustrating that we cant apply.
