Confusion over time wait for MRI scan

I need an MRI scan on leg done very very soon as in extreme pain. My consultant said that with sorting the paperwork and trying to get an appointment it would be another week at the very earliest. Yet if I go onto the Euromedic website, I can book a scan for tomorrow if needed, just have to get the referral letter from doctor! Has anyone done this, would I be quicker to just get referral letter from my own GP and then book the scan myself or do I go through my Consultant and wait at least another week?

I wouldnt wait a week for it, the last one i had done i went to my GP on Tuesday morning for the referal, then rang the beacon and got the MRI done Thursday evening.
