    Hi

Now I have all my cash back from the Tag Heuer Saga am looking to buy another watch ( I didn't buy the Steinhart in the end)

Am looking a White face . 45 mm(ish), Chrono is ok aswell

Am open norm types like Tag, Omega, etc, but not shy of indy brands

    Maybe someone has something themselves

    Cheers

    At 42mm it's a little smaller than you'd like

Or again a little smaller than you'd like

That Limes is a classy looking watch.

    Like the Limes.

How about an Oris XXL (44mm)?

Discontinued line but they do come up for sale quite often. There's also a moon phase complication and a worldtimer.

I still have my calibre 36 with the Zenith El Primero movement that I withdrew from adverts if you're interested. It's 43mm btw.

I think the Pan-European is a lovely watch - and not at all expensive.

it's far too big for me, but if you want 45mm it's perfect.

another one that is similar is the Tissot Auto Chonograph - again white and 45m and not silly money

i do wish i had bigger wrists! modern Chronographs are getting huge! :)

How about an Ebel 1911 Discovery Chronograph? 43mm, and I know of one that might be available ;)

I don't know of any. According to their website none in Ireland or Northern Ireland, but seem to be plenty in UK.

Remember the retail price is almost double what that one is up for -if you believe his story? I just can never understand why people sell a watch they wore once 2 weeks after getting it for less than 2/3 of the retail price? Do you think these are generally people who can get a good discount? Retailers selling on the sly? Stolen watches? Fakes?

I know it's not a white faced Chrono and it's a quartz and smaller than you specified but I'd jump on this:

If it's the one adjacent to Bewleys then it's merely returned to H Samuel; it was upgraded To EJ not too long ago.

Nice watch (for a Quartz) but meets none of the OP's conditions whatsoever.

Besides, if he's looking for approx. 45m, then 36.8 is going to look ridiculous on him!

Sorry didn't mean to jump on the post, just couldn't believe how far from the OP's spec it was!

Be sure to post pics when you buy it though - those Watchfinder pics are aways a bit dull! :D

Absolutely no offense taken. Your right it was so not what the OP requested. But he does seem to have a compulsive buying and flipping persona :D LOL.

Just because it's not what he asked for doesn't necessarily mean he wouldn't buy it, sometimes you don't really know what you want until you see it, and I'm sure he appreciates something being posted that he may not have considered.

But this will be a keeper...if i get the right one

I did put a WTB on TZ for another Heuer Autavia and got a hit...to buy or not to buy...

Well then why bother putting up the request for suggestions in the first place? - using your logic, he'd have been better off using Google, and the search term "watch" and seeing what came up - he could have bought anything that tickled his fancy then - there's loads of choice, that, I assume is why he tried to narrow it down!

I already said to Bullseye, that I wasn't having a go at him - but rather, I found it funny that his suggestion was soooo wide of the mark - I think he found it funny too!

Not at all, just because he thinks he knows what he wants doesnt mean it's what he'll end up buying, he'd already had plenty of suggestions along what he asked for no harm in something different.

Dont think I could afford an original..

Was looking at the re-issues ones that were approved by Jack Heuer, but I actuall like the Tag Heuer logo...brings back memories of the old Motor Racing days

Old motor racing days would be the Heuer logo rather than TAG Heuer!!

See if Heuerboy.com can do you one; he has a few for less than 2k GBP. Probably manual. A mate of mine has bought a number of pieces through him and gets him to service them.

I think Weirs sell Eterna, in which case maybe this would fit the bill:

That is a very good looking watch, OH looking for a more masculine watch, has a cartier but a bit sleek for work. Hadn't heard of that brand before, will check it out.

    What are Dawson Jewellers like?

they rarely get a mention here, yet they have lots of watches in the windows - JLC, Breguet, Rolex, PP etc.?

I pass the window regualry, and they've had the same stock there for a long time - they expensive??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,709 ✭✭✭bogmanfan

Dawson Jewellers are good, but a bit on the pricey side. However, I find they're usually 'flexible' on the price if you push a little. The only thing that annoys me slightly is the stock is a mix of new and used, and there's no way of knowing if one is used without asking staff. Also, no price on anything, but they're hardly alone there

Be careful in Weirs and Sheerans. Don't end up paying full whack for a new watch, only to decide you don't like it in a month's time. It'll be a painful lesson.
Check out Corrs in Powerscourt. Lots of nice used stock (one or two even belonged to me at one point :)) and decent prices for a bricks and mortar store.

If you were buying new in say Weirs or Sheerans, would you generally use the internet available price to get them down?

I've not bought a "really" expensive watch before, but will be looking to soonish, and was just wondering is for example the 25% discount, that can easily be obtained on the Grey market online, achievable in shops if they know that you know what you're talking about! :)

If i were you unless your getting a bargain no way should you pay retail prices. Your going to get more bang for your buck being pre-owned. For your €2500 you might pick up a nice Zenith El Primo. Save another €500 and you might pick something like this beauty up.

I guess it depends on the brand but Sheerans in particular are very protective over their pricing on IWC especially, and would not negotiate past a couple of per cent off retail. Limited supply and high demand from foreign visitors drive this. Rolex dealers protect the brand/their margin in a similar fashion.

    well...what a day

Walked the feet of myself and the family

Tried on many watches from Baume and Mercier , Longines, Omega and IWC

Spent an age in Sheerans with Paul and they are fantastic and very helpful

Loved the Portuguese and New Spitfire. Big jump from 6K for Portuguese to 10K for Spitfire Chrono

They had an Ingineuer reduced to 3850

Gave me an IWC catalogue - stunning, even that is an amazing piece of artwork

A lot of thinking to be done....

Has anyone used the unofficial watchuseek recommended dealer from Washington?

I used him to buy my 2250.80 omega and they were retailing for about 2500 over here and I paid about 1300 delivered. Brand new in box with all cards.

I would never consider buying a new watch any other way. Surely I'm not the only person over here that has done it?
