Mirror sail repairs

My mirror is going to be sailed again for the first time in years. Took it out there to have a look at it and it's in remarkably good condition... Except for the sails :( They aren't dreadful (apart from the spinnaker...) but do need a bit of TLC. New sails out of my wallet's reach at the moment. Need to get cringles replaced (Jib head, tack and clew; main luff, clew and head) and a small tear in the clew of my jib repaired. Anyone got any idea how much it would cost to have it done? If it's too much I'll probably just clean up the cringles and have a go at restitching the jib clew.

Also if anyone's can recommend me a decent sail maker they were happy with I'd be grateful. The sails are Holt sails.

    Not many left...

The fellow in the shop/boat in the Grand Canal Basin, if he is still there, was a good price for repairs a few years ago.
I can name some others, but during the celtic tiger days they got too expensive (they were not interested in the work), you would be better off DIYing it or buying a new set on ebay etc.
One place we used for 30 odd years turned into 'Fabric & Tensile Engineers', another could not keep his staff (more money working on a site) and now designs the sails and emails a CAD file to the Philippines (India?) to have them made.

When is the money (including lost growth) Michael Noonan took in the Pension Levy going to be paid back?

    Thanks for that,

wasn't aware that there's (was?) a place in grand canal dock. Had a quick search for one but all I got back was one aimed at surf style sports - kite surfing, wind surfing etc. Is this the place?

Have a friend who got small bits of work done by Philip Watson a while back. Might send an email and see how much he charged. I'd be afraid of just leaving the sails in the drop box to have the clew repaired and get them back with a bill I can't pay for replacing all the cringles as well as fixing the clew if you get my drift.

I think this is gonna be one of those years where everything needs repair and replacement :( Next on the list is salopettes. Just hope the current pair make it to the end of the season and I can get a pair on sale (c'mon little salopettes, you can do it :p).

Actually, anyone hear anything about lidl gear this year? It's been strangely missing. Or did I just miss it?

There's a couple of sail bins at DL marina - I'm sure they have a phone number that you could ring to discuss possible prices with them - I know the feeling of the shock when you get the bill!!! We've also used Downer's in DL, found them very expensive, but just had to swallow it.

And no, you didn't miss Lidl/Aldi gear - it never appeared this year  And I was waiting and waiting for it!

Decathlon are great for sailing gear - you should check out their website and maybe plan a trip up north - they are on the Bangor road out of Belfast

Thanks for all the help... I had a closer look at all the cringles and I reckon most of them are not beyond salvage. There are a couple that need replacement, which I think I'm going to do myself. I've since been told that it's an easy enough job, just need to track down the cringles. Tried all the usual suspects (viking, union chandlery, ebay, trident uk) but to no avail. Think I'm going to have to find time to drop in to dinghy supplies in Sutton and hopefully they'll have some. Otherwise it might just have to be new sails!

This looks a bit rough but the sails seem ok and for €50 you will have all the spare parts you will need :Dhttp://www.donedeal.ie/for-sale/boats/3327085
