Yeah you could try mitch. There's a chap on AO called Jeff that you could try also - get hold of his number and ring him if you can (don't have it myself). Sometimes he can be rubbish at returning emails/PMs etc, mad busy it seems rather than ignoring you. AO profile, his website.

Wasn't 1751754-ted_dibiase.jpg on here selling is old E3 CRT aswell? 29" jobbie.

Tis gone to a new home now(along with a chassis). Just recently in fact after months of being up for trade/sale.

I took off the glass front and bezel and the monitor seems to be 25inches from corner to corner.

Yep, thought as much form the pics in the other thread. Can you take the back cover off the cab now & identify the make model? You don't have to touch anything & won't get fried so don't worry :D [yet]

Is that a Polo 2? Does it say on the neckboard sticker anything about Polo?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,393 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

Dont see polo2 anywhere, it does say the model is mtc 9000

Yep it's an MTC 9000 chassis so :)

Look here, has to be googled cached though so don't click any links in it - http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:Iez0CiiVOowJ:www.coin.demon.co.uk/monitor.htm+hantarex+mtc+9000&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=ie

    From the article linked above:
MTC9000. This is the chassis covered by repair guide article. It will run 14", 16" and 20" tubes. Looking from the back, to the left just behind the video input is a slide switch. There is the small removable control PCB in the centre containing 6 controls. The large heatsink round the LOPT has TR15 (BU508A), IC1 (TDA1670A), TR17 (BDX53A) mounted on the left and the large power resistor on the right.

Perhaps thats not the right chassis for the monitor in the cab?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,393 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

yep i just read that now. think ill just look for a new monitor haha. theres no way im doing that discharge thing and i wouldnt have a clue where to start with any of the stuff on that page unfortunatly. I was hoping for an easy fix like, the plug fell out haha.

The chassis looks fairly old & weathered, probably safer to pick up a new one. Just pick up a chassis thats compatible with the size of screen you have & you can change them out very quickly

The guy said it was runnning for years, im starting to doubt my screen measurement. do i measure the entire crt or just the grey part of the screen. maybe its only 20inch...

    IMG_2042.jpg

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33,733 ✭✭✭✭Myrddin

Only the glass part, looks like 22" from the pic there but I can't be sure about your starting position. Measure from one corner of the glass to the next..

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,393 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

From glass corner to glass corner its 25inchs alright. the chassis, to replace that do i need to discharge the monitor? I was thinking id need a whole new screen, everything..

Is there a glass cover though in front of your screen? Or is some of the back area glass too? I'd measure from visible screen corners, so the grey bit really.

Yeah to remove the chassis you need to discharge it, once you take the proper precautions it's very easy to do though I wouldn't worry about it.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,393 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

Theres a black border around the screen, around the grey thats glass too. like the entire screen is 25inchs all glass, the grey bit though starts in a bit and thats 23inchs corner to corner. so there is a one inch border of black glass all the way around

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,393 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

I just found a manual and a brand new flip ashtray in the coin door part.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33,733 ✭✭✭✭Myrddin

Does it say in the manual what size the screen is? I'm nearly sure the grey bit on my screen measures 25" but I could be wrong.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,393 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

the manual seems to be for the power supply nothing in it about the monitor unfortunatly.

Looks to be about 25 inches.

I see it has some German screen burn! :D

I think it says - 'Einwurf frei' (Which means free throw - freeplay I guess?)

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,393 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

Judging from the sound only, it seems to be on free play, i can start a game etc just by pressing 1player.ive been taking it apart all day, cleaning it, needs a new bulb and possibly starter in the marquee. the artwork needs to be redone too, the marquee art is terrible, pixalated etc.

its covered in germal, even on the front it says it accepts 1 Deutche Mark on the control panel

same on the side. theres a lump gone out of the back middle corner where it must have been dropped, ill need to fill that.

Needs new buttons too id say.

Can anyone recomend some good buttons. id like the ones that are kinda concave on the top, not flat if you know what i mean. i have flat ones in my other cab. plus these ones are the nut on type not the push in ones.

I'd say Happ/IL buttons are you best bet so.
Don't thinks there's much else concave that will fit 3/4 inch control panels anyway.
They aren't good for fighters though if that's what you'll be primarily using the cab for.

Cheers, the cp width isnt 3\4 inch tough, its looks like just a sheet of metal.

Im going to talk here about the speakers in this cab, cause "post here when you get something new" is prob the wrong thread for it.

Before i left the house, I swapped the wires from the speaker on the left into the one on the right and the speaker worked. So it looks like its just the wiring thats not working on one side.

And is the sound in game fixed? Or the same missing bits?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,393 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

Well it was the same because it was the same wire, just going into the other speaker. I havent replaced the other wire yet, which i think isnt working. i need to get a bit of wire tomorrow i didnt get any over the weekend in the end.

Picked up the cab off Logie earlier today (Thanks again)

Actually have it up and running now, monitor and everything working so i tested the SF2 CE bootleg board i bought of ebay (from arcademachines.ie) last week.

Well its not working for sure, the picture is all over the place, you cant make out anything on it, its all flashing all over the place.

BUT... Turns out that offical sf2 board i have, that i got with the other cab which i though was just world warrior, is actually street fighter 2 champions edition and works perfect anyways! happy days.

Cool, they used to have it in the arcade in ballyfermot years ago, going to hang onto it. Also i think that other original street fighter 2 is actually Turbo, chun li can do fireballs in it?

Going to get myself one of those 60in1 boards for this cab i think.

Anyone know what the story is with 4:3 LCD/Plasma monitors over 21 inches in size? Even over 19 they seem to be really rare to come across. It's like the only ones available are for industry use and cost a fortune!

I guess with everyone watching films on their pcs now there's no home market for them anymore.

I think they mentioned some large 4:3 LCD's in that arcade book I linked to a while back. Can't remember the name of the company but it started with a "B" I think.

I've been wondering recently what I'm going to do when the polo 25" in my Mk2 Cab finally bites the dust. Any LCD I've seen is bloody wide screen!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 309 ✭✭purplec

They best fit for a 29" crt screen replacement is a 26" LCD. They do make 4:3 lcds but they at custom and are thousands.

I'm not sure I've ever seen anything over 15" in 4:3 - only 5:4 - but I don't deal with the professional market at all.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 2,975 Mod ✭✭✭✭LoGiE

I suppose there's alway's this monitor. It's Tri-mode to boot and with the amount of golden tee machines there'll be demand for a while yet. It might cost a packet to get shipped but it would be worth.

So a 25 inch CRT would need what, about a 23 inch 4:3 LCD?

How about plasma? Maybe as the technology is a bit older there'd be more 4:3s knocking about?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,906 ✭✭✭Steve X2

It was Billabs that was in that arcade book.
    http://www.billabs.com/index.php/products/monitors.html
They used to do a 26" 4:3 lcd so worth contacting them. All they have now seems to be 15-19" 4:3 lcd's that come with very large bezels to fit inside an arcade machine that would normally take a larger screen.

You can also see if you can find a Samsung SyncMaster 214T 21" 4:3 lcd on the cheap maybe.

    Then you have Wells Gardner.

Wow, good sources, but not going to be cheap! I still don't understand why 4:3 is so expensive? Is there some mad crazy expensive technology in those industrial type ones? Or is it due to lack of demand so they've become specialized?

Here's a 40 inch plasma 4:3 for relatively cheap given the size

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pioneer-PDP-V402-40-480i-4-3-NTSC-RGB-VGA-EDTV-Plasma-Display-Panel-Flat-Screen-/200785324184?pt=Televisions&hash=item2ebfbce898#ht_5591wt_1031

Not that it'd fit in a cab, but I may keep an eye on the bay just to see if anything pops up.

Also, I am now beginning to look at my 4:3 19 inch LCD in work with thieving eyes :D

I no expert but from what I understand its not that its difficult to make the LCD in 4:3 but its that its cut in 16:9 slices these days as that's what most manufactures want. LCD's are manufactured in large blocks and then cut to size/shape so it would be as easy to cut 4:3 as 16:9 but unfortunately nobody really wants them any more.
