Leinster Semi Final: Dublin Vs Kilkenny

    Dublin Team:

    1. Gary Maguire
    2. Niall Corcoran
    3. Peter Kelly
    4. Tomás Brady
    5. Stephen Hiney
    6. Joseph Boland
    7. Michael Carton
    8. John McCaffrey (c)
    9. Shane Durkin
    10. Conal Keaney
    11. Danny Sutcliffe
    12. Liam Rushe
    13. Paul Ryan
    14. Ryan O'Dwyer
    15. Conor McCormack

    Kilkenny Team:

    1. D Herity
    2. P Murphy
    3. JJ Delaney
    4. J Tyrrell
    5. T Walsh
    6. B Hogan
    7. R Doyle
    8. C Buckley
    9. P Hogan
    10. H Shefflin
    11. TJ Reid
    12. E Larkin
    13. C Fennelly
    14. R Power
    15. R Hogan

Dublin make one change to the team that defeated Laois in the the previous round with Ryan O'Dwyer replacing David Tracey.

Remarkably, Henry Shefflin has started every game under Brian Cody and looks set to continue that record having been named to start wing forward. Cillian Buckley is doubtful after missing Kilkenny's under 21 game against Wexford on Wednesday night.

This looks set to be a thrilling contest with Dublin looking like one of the only teams who can match Kilkenny physically. Kilkenny are close to a full team with only 2011 Hurler of the Year Michael Fennelly missing through injury.

I expext this to be a close game with Kilkenny barely edging it by 2-3 points.

This should be a cracker of a match.

From a KK point of view i would be worried about the fitness of Cillian Buckley, and how himself and Paddy Hogan cope with the more physical midfield partnership from Dublin. It's probably the mose inexperienced KK midfield that I have seen in a championship match under the reign of Cody.

In the forwards, it's difficult to assess how match fit Henry and Richie Power will be. I'd expect a few positional changes with Power switching to centre forward and Larkin going to full forward.

Hopefully there should be a full house and it will stay dry!

Kilkenny are missing Michael Rice as well as Fennelly which is a big loss. Not sure Buckley will start either, he was due to play the U21 game and didn't make it.

I agree with local chap it will be a tight game.

I'd hope Kilkenny will have the experience to get over the line but Dublin will be in the game with 10 mins to go I would imagine.

If Buckley isn't fit to start, or goes off injured early on, who will go to midfield? TJ Reid? KK are desperately short of midfielders at the moment. Not much on the subs bench either.

    16. Eoin Murphy
    17. Noel Hickey
    18. Kieran Joyce
    19. Conor Fogarty
    20. John Tennyson
    21. Willie Phelan
    22. Lester Ryan
    23. Matthew Ruth
    24. Aidan Fogarty
    25. Mark Bergin
    26. Thomas Breen
    27. Pádraig Walsh
    28. Mark Kelly
    29. Joe Brennan

Dont know how I forgot about about Rice!

A few of Dublins key players might'nt be the sharpest having come back from serious injuries (Keaney, Hiney, Brady). Although the same could be said about Shefflin.

I expect a big came from Larkin, with Richie Power and Shefflin unlikely to be 100% fit he will be the biggest threat to Dublin and he might have something to prove to himself after his sending off against Dublin in the League Final last year.

Ah I dunno does he really. He played well in the Leinster Final and he also played in the League this year so I doubt that memory is as fresh in the mind as it was then. He is there form player though and the one you'd expect the most from. Expect big things from Colin Fennelly too, think this championship is made for him to be honest.

Michael Fennelly and Rice are enormous losses. I would definetly be giving Dublin a better chance than I did last year.

In fact I think they'll just shade it, though I do feel it's Kilkenny's All-Ireland.

Best chance Dublin have of beating KK in my opinion.

Playing an unfit Shefflin could be a mistake (remember the AI Final in 2010?).

Got my tickets yesterday, can't wait. Hope the match lives up to expectations.

Why do you say he's unfit? He's played a few club games and challeges at this stage so I'd imagine he'll be fine.

I doubt any of the players from both teams will be unfit and if they were, they wouldn't be considered for selection.

I'd love the Dubs to beat KK but I doubt that.

Word around Kilkenny is that this young lad will be making his senior debut if Buckley isn't fit. He's only about 5 but he showed great potential the other night at the u-21 game.

got Dublin to win by 1-3 points at 9/1. Worth a tenner I think. Should be a cracker and its the dubs best chance in years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,192 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Went along to the league match between these 2 in Nowlan Park earlier in the year as a nuetral, what a game it was, Dublin scoring 6 goals and KK somehow managing to win it at the death. Danny Sutcliffe in particular was outstanding, scoring 2-2 or 2-3 from play despite being marked by Tommy Walsh - not often you see that type of stat!

As others have said I think Dublin have a good chance and could very well give KK a right good rattle. They may not win it, but I suspect the scoreline will be closer than the 6 point handicap the bookies make it

Can you pay at the turnstiles tomorrow? Or do you need a ticket? I know the stand is all sold out.

Minor FT result: Dublin 1-12 kilkenny 0-10.
The KK goalkeeper was poor for the Dublin goal, kk missed a penalty and Dublin finished with 14 men.
Dublin fully deserved the win though.

I'm concerned with all the KK injuries, not an excuse, just a concern.
Dublin know what it's like with injuries from last season but they all look fighting fit this time round.
I'm not sure which way this one will go but Daly will be pumped (as usual).

Good to see Loughnane back on the TV too.

conditions look awful given that initial Dublin free.

    Lovely score by Ryan there

I'd be expecting KK to win by 10+ points. Anything less will be a worry.

Gutted for Keaney. Really unfortunate with injuries.

Ref finally spots the constant Dublin backs fouling and holding KK players.

Too many hail mary shots from Dublin, they are being very wasteful

    Game over for Dublin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,477 ✭✭✭run_Forrest_run

really surprised by how poor the Dublin backs are. Overall, Dublin look tired.
Is Daly concentrating on bulking up some of the players taking its toll?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,477 ✭✭✭run_Forrest_run

bullshít, that was a fair hard shoulder and Murphy gets a card for it!

Hurling such a predictable game !!!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,477 ✭✭✭run_Forrest_run

Dubs having no luck, all the drops and dirty balls end up in KK hands.
Henry gets his 500th point, and a nice one too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,264 ✭✭✭✭Fireball07

Dublin have been very poor in possession, so many clueless passes and bad shot selection.

Kilkenny are a different class really, the first goal was brilliant. Richie Doyle and Brian Hogan have been superb.

Dublin midfield very poor, especially McCaffrey. KK doing simple things well, Brian Hogan having a stormer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,192 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Really disappointing and surprising performacne from Dublin so far. Hopefully they can make some sort of game of it in the second half. I really thought this one would be a competitive game

Boring match. I wonder do Kilkenny supports get bored.

Interesting that Kilkenny only need to win 4 games to win the All Ireland.

I dont like Kilkenny's passive aggressive style. Yes they are a fantastic team and Im not saying Dublin would get near them anyway, but they get away with too much fouls, shoves and chops and are referees always slow to show cards because they seem to justify themselves with ''playing on the edge within the rules of the game''.

Same as Cork and Waterford and Clare (at the start of the season anyway), and no disrespect to Laois or Westmeath, but Dublin and Galway at the start of the season would only have to win 4 games against top 8 sides also.

The only exceptions are Tipp and Limerick, who from the start would have need 5 wins over other top 8 teams to win the All Ireland

I think they have to really...Dublin were well in the game in the first 15 minutes, but that controlled aggression that Kilkenny bring ups the intensity and very few teams can match them.

They're just so clever in possession and their movement off-the-ball is sublime.

As do 3 of the Munster teams. Also kk only get the bye into the semi when they're leinster champions

not that interesting really. I'm sure they would have no problems playing more games towards an All Ireland final if only the Championship was structured differently.

I'd prefer their passive aggressive style than the over the top/in your face aggression that you get with a couple of the Munster teams. They've the perfect blend of intensity, toughness and skill which makes them such a great team.

Dublin will be lucky to come out of the qualifiers judging by that performance. They seem to be going backswards and are probably on a par with Offaly at this stage. Can't see Daly surviving as manager beyond August. Solid Kilkenny effort, but Dublin really were shockingly poor.

The draw will be very important for Dublin, will be tough either way, but I'm sure they would prefer to get Clare as opposed to the losers of Cork/Tipp

Galway are in for a slaughtering.

Very possibly but who knows? Galway have proven to be tricky opponents for Kilkenny in the past and I do believe they have more natural hurlers than Dublin do. Still if Galway keep it within 6 or 7 points they will probably be doing very well given how young they are.

Good interview from Daly, honest & forthright.... He has a massive task ahead of him to lift the Dubs after a mauling like that.

They definitely have more than Dublin. For all the progress Dublin have made over the last few years, they're still very reliant on a small number of key players, particularly a fit Keaney in the half forward line. Dublin still haven't won an underage all Ireland aswell, whereas Galway have won a load over the last decade.

For all the money put into Dublin hurling what do they really have to show for it? Is it time for Daly to move on? Hes been there 4 years now and looks like he cant bring them on a whole lot more then he has

Not really surprised by the result. Dubs are better than that but I think kk wanted to put them back into their box after they had the audacity to score so much against them in the league!!

Isn't that the style you would want all teams in all sports to do? I know I'd love if the team I coach would play with the same intensity, determination, physicality, power, pace, unity etc etc etc
Look at the All-Blacks, do they not play with similar passion as KK hurlers?
How bout great Kerry football teams? Tyrone teams?

Never expected that to be so one sided. Dublin were awful, and will be so tough to get them right for qualifiers after that hammering. KK as impressive as ever

Nearly fell asleep during that. As said, Galway haven't a hope.

Of course, but I think it just allows them to get away with more than they should, because they're Kilkenny, a good bunch of lads and so on. You could see in the match this evening the way they pushed Dublin around physically, got away with a few borderline frees, which probably all contributed to breaking Dublin's spirit. Dont get me wrong, Ill like to see rough and tumble in championship hurling, but Kilkenny just get on my nerves the sly way they go about things.
