Hi , I'm training mauy Thai twice a week also im doing another martial art and some road running, i want to get a protein shake to drink daily and also a recovery for after a heavy session, I'm currently taking kinetica lean gain at the moment. I'd greatly appreciate some knowledge on this as there are do many different products to choose from and I don't know what to go for.
    Thanks in advance.

did MMA with a former european champion.

    he recommends Cyclone.

Its about 40% protein and 33% sugars/carbs off the top of my head. Gets the portein for muscle and the carbs to recover from the sessions/running.

Tastes very very good too (strawberry)

    myprotein.co.uk

    Get whey + carbs. Mix.
Hell of a lot cheaper than cyclone.

Supplements should be minimal, something like this

    1.multivitimin
    2.Fish oils
3, some sort of amino acid
    4. possibly a ZMA
    5, Whey only if needed

I know you do martial arts and thats great but im just wondering why you think you would need a recovery supplement??

Also the protein shake for daily use....is it just for convenience?

Well your body can be "spent" as you put it doing a lot of things...but they dont require a recovery shake...whats MMA got you doing that you have to have one?

I just happened to post the same question in the MMA forum also.

MMA has people doing everything, from boxing, kickboxing, wrestling etc. As well as strength & conditioning exercises and circuits. Like any session done in the gym your body is naturally worn out and muscles are sore and tired the next day.

So the OP (as I am) is looking for advice on what supplements will best help him recover and prevent fatigue in the muscles etc so he/I can train more/recover quicker and feel less tired/sore going to the next training session?

    Gotcha

Well instead of going straight to a recovery drink you could try an amino acid drink before/during/after your workouts, stuff like Xtend, or Purple wraath.

You could try that for say 6 weeks and see if you can see any advantage to it.

Sorry i should point out that Purple Wraath has l-arginine in it and you may be sensitive to that.....it makes me feel ill, Xtend is just regular BCAA and imo a lot better tasting!!

it would generally involve a LOT of sub-maximal weight lifting. Lifting other people, weights, ropes, resistance bands, body weights etc etc, then punching, kicking and so on. generally hits every muscle in the body during a workout.

from my own experience, the sessions are much too intense to take in anything during a session. it has to be afterwards.
so something like cyclone is perfect.

Too intense to take on liquids............

    cyclone is perfect......

As they say on Dragons Den......I'm Out!!

cyclone is over priced. It's not a recovery product but an all in one.

Better recovery products are ON 2:1:1 recovery or Kinetica recovery.

cyclone can be dear, but i always get mine buy1get1free so its only 27 a tub...

just wondering, what makes Kinetica better in your opinion?

It's whey isolate with tri carb blend in pretty much 2:1 ratio. its reasonably priced and easy to find.

whey and dextrose would do the same job tbh

the biomax protein in cyclone is excellent quality.
the blend 5:3 between protein and carbs is good.

Its got creatine which means you dont need to spend extra on that.

HMB i can take or leave.

I do agree on it being expensive.

Which is why id only buy it in a deal e.g. Holland and Barrett

Cyclone, or any other "recovery" shake isn't anything special. It's just food at a basic level.

Don't get me wrong. Protein, carbs and creatine is a great mix. But putting them all in one tub and a flashy label is not a reason to charge more. Dextrose is about 1/4 the price of protein. It's a filler, yet they are charging more to add that to whey.

The tubs are tiny at 1.2kg. You said you were paying 27euro each, so i assume the deal was two for 54 euro. For that you are getting 1.2kg protein, 1kg carbs, 100g creatine.

Buying them separately from a better priced source.
You could probably get 2.5kg protein, 1kg carbs and 250g creatine for 50 euro. Which is a lot more product for slightly less than you are paying - which was the 2 for 1 price. So yeah, even at half price it still overpriced. Gives you an idea what maximuscle are like.
