No surprises with Hutchinson winning, but I'm delighted to see Irvine getting 2nd - hopefully a confidence booster before the Olympics. Nico may be pleasantly surprised with his showing

In the ladies, I think that was only Mel's 2nd TT, so a great result for her

I saw a tweet during the tour de Suisse where Matt Brammeier told Roche he'd pick up 30 seconds in the TT if he used a disc wheel. Interestingly Roche used a disc wheel tonight...

yeah great stuff. First medal for Irish Mel!!!

Also good to see hutchinson go so well. He is interesting to listen to.

there was a hill on the course so he went with 2 deep sections I suppose for the climb but I guess on the down hill you lose more than you gain on the up with the disc.

He should start using a pm for pacing ....

Your missing the reply where he said he was told by reynolds that deep section would be better than discs.

We should require all riders to upload their rides to Strava, then we can work it out for ourselves;)

I hadn't heard of him before. Is he a pro road racer too? What team?
From that interview it says he holds a number of UK titles. Can people from the north compete in UK and Irish national championships?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 348 ✭✭cipo

They can ride either /or not both...
    Afaik-
Hutch has won national titles in uk but now can't ride the BC sanctioned nat TT. He won the national 25 only 2 weeks ago this is sanctioned by RTTC not the recognised int cycling gov body which is BC.

He's a writer and has a column in Cycling Weekly. He wrote the Hour detailing his attempts to break Boardman's world hour record

He's not a pro and afaik has never ridden as one. I think he's around 40 or so now (maybe just under)

He has a website, although it's not updated often

People from the North can opt to take out an Irish or UK licence (not both at one time though) - Martyn Irvine for example represents Ireland, whereas Wendy Houvenaghel rides for GBR

He stated (from the podiumcafe link mentioned above) that he was a full time pro from 2000 > 2006.

    the distance is wrong?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 348 ✭✭cipo

Stickybottle.com report says distance shortened to 35km due to being unable to get road closure due to county boundaries....

Fair play to organisers getting closed road for TT - is this normal for the TT nats??

Hutch is a class tester... Has put in some serious times over the years in the UK...

Young Mullen is one to watch for future... Rode 25miles at UK RTTC champs 2weejs ago in 48.48 -outrageously fast for a young lad in terrible conditions too!!

Onwards to the road races now- would be great to see the Men's jersey at the Tour... Only one man going..!!

Very much looking forward to Sunday's race - hope the weather holds up. Agree with sentiments about Ryan Mullen reckon he is one of the real hopes for the future. Seems to have it all - TT/RR - very impressive on the hills during the Visit Nenagh Classic in April also

I think that's only about his 3rd TT - he was flying last week over 10 miles in Dundalk. Getting the pacing right, particularly over longer distances, is critical (and suffering is definitely a good sign in a TT!) - it may well be that he just pushed too hard early on

I think there's still plenty of room for improvement for him and Mel

In respect of the result of the Irish National TT Championships, the Panel of Commissaires in conjunction with a representative of the Board of Cycling Ireland has carried out an in depth review of the times recorded by the timekeepers.

The faults leading to the issue of erroneous times were identified, rectified and a corrected result issued.

The Event organization and Cycling Ireland apologise for the confusion and embarrassment caused by the issue of the inaccurate initial race result.

It can occur where the finish line timekeeper thinks the first rider started at clock time minute 0 instead of 1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 885 ✭✭✭ryan_sherlock

Yeah - as I said on twitter - worst I have felt on the bike in over a year! Last time I felt that bad from the start was an XC race in the UK 2 years ago (http://ryansherlock.blogspot.ie/2010/07/2010-bmbs-round-4-dalby-forest.html). I had much higher expectations.

Did my prep, followed my coach but just didn't work out. I know I should have been at least 2 minutes faster. My power for the ride was pitiful (on comparison to training and other TTs)!

2nd time I did a 35k+ TT. Leinster was my next longest at 16k then only a few 4-5k before that. As Beasty says - you need to race the TTs more - I have spent time on the TT bike, but no racing close by makes prep tough.

Some time by Michael though - made the rest of us look like pure amateurs! (But then I expected him to kick butt considering the scalps he claims in the UK)

I'll be in the cavalcade on Saturday. I'll tweet if I get a chance to.

Anto, I'm sure he was just venting but it looked / sounded silly... He was the only one calling people unprofessional

His lady saying CI are a joke ...

but it's not the best way to handle things...

I've never felt as if it's done me any good / given me any relief by 'venting' on twitter or a forum for that matter!! ;-)

Our Olympian on the track had to tell him to cool his jets....
It's there for all to read, I'm not being malicious just stating I didn't like how it was handled.
