Ok so last week I registered with the British Farming Forum.

I used my own personal email address 'I purchased my own Domain name' not the free emails like 'hotmail or Gmail'.

So they sent me the standard click here and we'll get back to you.

I also Registered with Forum4Farming and became a full member within 24 hours which just shows ya how slow the BFF are.

So if or when I become a full member I will inform you's of this by a post.

They have no reason to decline me!

Seems like I would have a better chance of joining the Freemasonries in America.

I asked the BFF admin, on behalf of a few people here, about the hold up in their registration.

Long story short, the reply I got from the admin went along the following lines, that while they have a few existing "overseas" members, that they aren't sure they want too many due to "cultural differences and that".

I have my own view on the matter, I'm saying no more about it, those who I asked for know what it is.

The British Farming Forum have around 10,300 members as of today.

Just wondering how many of those 10,300 members are actual active members on their forum.

Would it even be half of the total members on BFF?

That's the reply I got from Blue, who is the administrator on BFF. I never have or had a bad word to say about the BFF members.

I'd be interested to know whether they check the new members daily, weekly or monthly and accept or decline such newbie members.

By the way I didn't specify which country I came from!

I sent them emails before to them but no response for a previous attempt. Ya think they would at least gave a reply/reason for declining membership.

I read some where that they are so strict because of spam messages but this forum and other forums on www.boards.ie are very informative and I don't see any or rarely any junk messages.

that is a pity, I think it's such an informative forum, there's such a spread of farming types, scales, systems etc that I find it fascinating.

I had a bit of a row with the farmingforum crowd as you have to post X posts before you can see pictures, they werent impressed when I spammed my thread in the help forum trying to figure out how many posts it would take to be able to view the pics :)

    Yeep very informative forum.

It'll be interesting to see if they accept me or not.

Maybe they delay accepting ya as a full member because they want to know whether you are still viewing the forum in a months time or just someone who just wants to post spam or rubbish on their forum.

I must say I find bff brilliant. The diversity and depth of knowledge is just incrediable.

I think the farming section here on boards.ie is good and improving but I at the same time I struggle to belive that there is the critical mass for boards.ie to be brilliant.
Bit like our irish soccer squad unfortunately, we just dont have the critical mass (population) to be good at so many sports. But that is a whole different can of worms that I really did not mean to open:eek:

Obviously British and Irish farming are really very simular if not the same and have many of the same concerns. I see no good reason why they should be discouraging Irish memberships. But at the same time the name of their forum is 'British farming forum'. Ireland ain't british lads! Maybe if history was different we did not succed in becoming a republic! Of course I am being feasious now.
Geographically Ireland is still part of the 'British Isles'

The forum4farming.com group did break away from bff for several reasons. Their biggest issue at the time was the lack of an Off Topic section where they used to have a good cut off of each other. Bff are quite concerned about liable cases being taken which is fair enough. f4f.com is a good start for an Irish and british joint forum but I dont find it is as well organised as bff

I joined bff with a hotmail account before that became a requirment.
It is an effective tactic to avoid spamers and the quality of the bff is maintained. I have reported a couple of posts on bff before for obvious and annoying plugging and the user in question did not return.

There are several industry interested parties posting on bff very successfully but they are very willing to share knowledge without constantly plugging the $hit out of the place.

I would not like to encourage ppl on here to move over to bff as I would fear it would be at the expense of boards.ie.

I just joined forum4farming to see how long it would take to become a full member and they were really quick compared to the BFF.

Also I have no intention of leaving www.boards.ie as I find it very informative and it is really interesting to gain knowledge and learn from other peoples experience.

Also I am very republican in my views and politics but I'll leave that for another forum!

I had to check in the dictionary to see what brethren meant!

    I don't believe in a land tax.

I also seen the thread 49801 on BFF but while it was on it seemed like it fell on 'Deaf Ears'.

    Thanks anyway.

Seems like we're becoming the 'Noisy Neighbours'!

    Right lads,
Ignore that the thread I started was removed. They simply do not like threads going on about registration.... end of.

Most of the problems seem you seem to be experiencing is very simply to do with the email accounts you are using. They dont like dodgy ones that leave them open to spamers and you are being filtered out. You need to use a very reputable one.
Has anyone mentioned any trouble with eircom accounts?
A work around is when you are registering use a reputable account of a friend. Once you are registered you can change the email account to one of your choice no problem.

I registered with a @vodafone.ie email account - while it took a while (a few months from what I remember) it worked fine.

You get an @vodafone.ie email with your vodafone phone number, same for o2.ie I imagine

No harm in highlighting that the mods are volunteers and dont get paid to deal every little quam that goes on. So their work on the forum hast to fit in around their everyday lives. So sometimes these things do just take time.

You should have been accross the table yourself!!!

We often use this line to get a rise out our english visitors when they visit work.....especially if we want them on the back foot on negotitations..they know it's sensitive! Usually it's 'over here in the colonies' and then start laughing...

Off topic a bit but the owners of Boards.ie and BFF that 'relate to me' must be getting a free ride getting advertising money while the poor moderators get nothing.

If only I thought of a forum like www.Britishfarmingforum.co.uk or www.Boards.ie before they did it.

    Damn it

Obviously the secret of a successful club is to make it really hard to join.

Ye all sound pathetic, begging to join a forum that clearly wants nothing to do with the likes of us proletarian muckers. Thinking we are their equals and trying to rub shoulders with our betters on BFF.

"I say, Jeremy, is that one of those frightful Irish savages trying to get past the doorman? Didn't we give them back most of their horrible wet poor little island?"

"Please sorrr, is there eyre a chance atall atall ye might let me in for a whileen, like, OY'll be no thrubble atall.

Maybe a wee bowl of soup to warm me up, sorr?"

I was thinking about the IP address aswell.

Would you have to just register again with personal email in UK or buy email and register in the UK.

I'm heading to the Nottingham soon so I'll get it done there hopefully.

The BFF mob will read this and say 'no chance'. LOL
