Palette deliveries

I know a few of you guys have had large things shipped in on palettes before - just have a question. Did the delivery lad/lads in the truck give you a hand move said item? Or did they literally just dump it on the palette in your drive?

Just wondering if I need a few extra hands with something arriving tomorrow!

My Astro got left at the door. Two days later after literally stripping the thing down, it made it to the cave upstairs. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,906 ✭✭✭Steve X2

My candy was dumped more or less at the door. Had to convince the guy to use his trolley to cart it around to the back of the house (bigger door).

Other stuff I got from Japan on pallets has been smaller than a cab so not a problem really but that stuff was left at the door as well.

There are only obliged to drop the pallet at the requested address and get a signature. They might bring move it indoors on the pallet truck for you if you ask nicely and you can get the pallet through the doorway easily - have ramps ready..

They won't hang around while you unwrap it though and definitely won't lift anything off the pallet.

When my cab arrived they just dropped it at the loading-bay/door. Your best to organise a few mates over to help you get it in the door or get yourself a large bit of plastic sheeting to cover it with the rain we are having of late

Apparently it's already in the country just waiting to be delivered! I thought it'd be another week or so at least. Not mentally prepared for the awesome yet!

That's the one. It's about 25kg lighter than an Atomiswave, so I don't see it being too much trouble to get in. It's also only 60cm or so width wise so will come through the door without taking any of it apart.

    We shall see tomorrow though!

Cool, well I got my Egret 3 in the house on my own. Those wheels are a life safer on these candies.

Cant wait to see this new one setup :)

I presume it's going to the current address or is it heading to the folks? I'm hoping to post off those other bits this morning, just scouting around for an envelope. Never one when you need it.

It's coming to my house this time. I think a third arcade cab delivered to theirs may be taking the mick at this point! hah

Actually yesterday when I dropped out to theirs, they asked me if I had room for another arcade cab.

'you sure you don't? we bought you one yesterday?'

Then they handed me this -

    p2759_big.jpg

Nice one on the buttons! Thanks! Really looking forward to swapping them out.

Hired hands sorted. Have my parents coming out from Bray to help lift it in.

They did well lifting the other cabs, so it only seemed right :D:D:D

Also bringing out the Neo 6 slot. Tempted to fill that up with Metal Slug carts!

    Hah!

I didn't want to post about it until it was up and running in my sitting room (along with a load of photos) - but totally freaked out when your one said the word 'palette' to me on the phone.

I'd have thought it would arrive on one, but a sudden realization of lifting it into the house on my own or it being left out in the rain hit me!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33,733 ✭✭✭✭Myrddin

It's not possible to be too eager when expecting a cab, so no, I'd rate this thread as being genuine :D

    Bring on the cabs

I put the pallet right up to the back door and used the wheels on the candy to push it into the house. Was a heavy beeyach but I got it inside a lot easier than I thought.
I never brought the pallet inside itself as they are generally to wide for most doors.

    Nice one..Can't wait for pics.

Yeah mine got brought to my front door as well.
Also had to bring it in on my own.
The only thing I weas scared of was the rain..Ireland is not a good place to get these babies delivered to..Have plastic sheets at the ready

Plastic sheets at the ready for sure,
I was tempted to buy cheap ass 50e Dunnes Marquee the day Sega Rally Twin came,
just in case I had to spend hours dismantling it in the rain :)
All went well on the day, thank the Gods that the house came with the RAMP though!!! :)

Best of luck with the new Cab o1s1n, looks like a beauty,
Ronnie thru up a New Net City today if anothers hunting for one.

finally! Got it into the house and powered it on. :D

Passed the Vendetta test - worked great.

Bit of an issue with video on Aliens Versus Predator. Seems to have sorted itself out on second powerup though.

Pgm - good solid picture, top inch or so is bending a bit. I really need to get into the pots and try to adjust the image. Also cant seem to find the damn degauss button!

Controls are odd - neither joystick is registering and only two buttons are. I flipped the control panel forward and neither start button is wired up. Joysticks are though

There are lose wires dangling about, so I think some may have disconnected while it was being transported.

Anyway, technically I'm still at work (work from home days FTW!) so cant feck about with it anymore till later.

    Picks to follow!

Are you sure it has a degauss button? My candy doesnt as its an auto degauss monitor.

Just noticed that it does a degauss on boot alright!

Had another feck about with it during my break. Still can't figure out why the sticks arent working. Got into a test menu and only a couple of the buttons register.

Also, more worrying, the tilt at the top of the screen seems to be in all games. It's the whole way across, not just at the edges.

You wouldn't notice it while you're playing, but you would say, during a boot screen as the tops of the letters are bending to the side.

Definitely happened in transport at the pre shipping pictures looked good.

So far I've only found pots for RGB colour and brightness. Cant seem to find pincushion. Fingers crossed I do and that manages to fix it. Last thing I need is a busted cap or something worse. :(

Strange, do you not have a degauss button on the panel behind the coin door? Thought it was standard on the E3/AWSD cabs.

@o1s1n: Look for vertical size/position pots also maybe? I'm wondering would a multimeter help tracking the stick/button problem? Check for continuity between the jamma harness and the stick/button connections? I assume if you switch the connections from the buttons that do work, to the other buttons that they work also i.e. the problem is not the buttons themselves but the wiring/connections.

No, that would be part of the monitor and my monitor is a trisync self degaussing one. It has the degaussing ring running right around the edge of the whole monitor and does it on power up.

Does yours auto degauss or do you need to press the button?
Maybe its an extra cable I can connect to the monitor/chassis if I ever want to manually do it?

    Edit:
I do have the hole for that button but it's empty.

    Edit 2:
Of course you need an auto degauss chassis as well I should point out.

    AH!!! SIGH OF RELIEF!!!!

So I twiddled a bit with the horizontal and vertical pots - the geometry at the top of the screen is now perfect.

Picture on the thing is absolutely beautiful. 15k at it's finest.

No joy yet with the controls YET. I've mainly been testing all my boards.

Another big massive relief - remember I was worried about their health after using them in that supergun? No sound?

Seems it was just the supergun being odd. Sound in all of them so far. Aliens Versus Predator was the main one I was concerned about - running 100% okay!!

Job top man! Having the vertical size too large has given me distortion on some games before also, always worth fiddling with the pots available before getting worried. Delighted you got it sorted.

Ah you'll sort the controls, at their most basic they're just microswitches connected to wires which are connected to your pcb...so there can't be anything serious wrong there, you'll figure that out handy I'd say.

Big relief again though for your pcb's, thank god that supergun done no damage...esp to your AvP board

Good to know! The very first cab I owned had some weird geometry issues - was starting to get flash backs

Should be okay with the controls alright :) just a bit frustrating seeing my games running and not being able to play them!

One thing which didn't work was my JAMMA Megadrive. The picture scrolls up and down like it's not syncing. Tried 60hz and no joy there either.

The Playstation 1/2 MGCD runs perfect though. Just had Einhander running on the screen. Odd hearing the playstation chime boot up on a cab!

Great little yolk that, I think I'll hunt down ones for the Saturn and Dreamcast too.

Try reducing the vert size or altering the vert position. I get something very similar where the picture rolls because my vert size is too large, happened when I switched from Xbox360 to PCB or something like that. Worth testing that though - a lot of times you'll find you have to tweak the screen to better suit different boards/systems you're plugging into it.

Very nice, screen from what I can see looks perfect & the cab itself is looks very very well kept - well done on the purchase man.

    Les Paul - Rockband??
Acoustic - For serenading herself whilst in the gold lined pantry?

Heh yeah, I'm not sure whether to give that a go or not now. I've managed to get the screen looking exactly as I want it for everything but the Jamma Megadrive.

I think rather than messing with the pots again I'll just put it to one side and stick to playing MD games on the telly!

Are your pots around the back or can you access them from the front? I've to move the whole cab to get anywhere near them!

Cheers, yeah the screen is lovely. The scanlines are beautiful.

If you look closely at that electric guitar, you'll see 'Hanah Montana' written on the side of it :D

They were selling them off in smyths for €30! Lovely little functioning electric guitar. The goal was to get all that branding crap off it and give it a repaint. Never got around to it though.

Theyre really hard to come across these days. I find you get them appearing on ebay France randomly for some reason. The brand name is 'MGCD'.

Cool yolks though, you need to provide power for the console separately, but other than that, the MGCD plugs into the consoles video and controller ports. No messing about with padhacks or anything.

Update on the cab - I've finally managed to get the wiring sorted on the buttons now and they're registering input. Still stumped with the sticks though! Absolutely nothing out of them.

Has to be an earth/grounding issue...are they common ground?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,669 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Yeah agreed - leave the pots alone for now if you have everything else looking good and leave the MD to the tv. AvP and your other boards deserve the cab more. :D

Any chance you could throw up a pic of the underside of the stick where the connections go in?

The buttons on either side all share a common ground yeah.

Weird, the player 1 joystick has a common ground connecting all the microswitches - but each end of it are cut and dont go anywhere. The player 2 joystick's ground connects back up with the harness.

    GENIUSES!!!!!

I connected that player 1 ground that wasn't going anywhere to the common ground on the buttons and I can finally bloody move player one around!!!

No joy with joystick 2 yet as that's already all wired up, but at least that's the problem solved - plus now I can play some damn games!!!

    - located the ground for the player 2 stick and wired that into the common ground for p2 buttons similar to the above.

    We now have stick 2.

    Oh god yes.

Going to try and fit the Neo 6 slot in it now for some Blazing Star. It's going to be like fitting an elephant into a Mini, but maybe just maybe it'll work...!
