Starting weights

I have a set of dumbells and a barbell and am looking for a routine.

Looking to lose weight and increase strength.

Is it necessary as a beginner to bother with splitting days? In terms of time it would suit me to do maybe shoulders and arms one day and then legs and shoulders the next day or do I need a day between to rest muscles.

Will also mix in some cycling, yoga and sea swimming. Maybe better to do these in between weights days?

    Any advice for a novice?

    http://www.muscleandstrength.com/

You'll find all the info here. I feel most comfortable doing shoulders and triceps on one day then chest/biceps the next and then legs or back on another day.

When I started out I did 3 days a week with rest days in between and it worked well.

Cycling etc shouldn't be a problem on days you've trained but it would probably be more comfortable to do them inbetween weight days.

I'm no expert but hopefully you'll get something useful out of this post :)
