So we're probably all seen it, and most of us may catch it again.
What are we expecting from this click? Same brilliant movie in crisper image?

I'm gonna catch a lunch time viewing tomorrow and I just cannot wait! But for I was out side of the pale this weekend I would have seen it already. Really hope the crowd is up for it tomorrow. Not that I'll be shouting or
saying the lines or anything but lets all at least get into the zone and pretend its a new movie and get sucked right in! WOO!

just back from it, looks great in places, some of the darker scenes have grain like when Hooper and Brody find Gardner's boat but it adds to the charm, its almost 40 years old and is still a better written and paced blockbuster than most modern films. Its one of my favourite movies so I had a huge smirk on my face the entire time :) moar classic film rereleases please.

Still have yet to see this :/

My dislike of all things Spielberg is extremely high but I've heard that Jaws is one of his stronger films.

Its one of the best blockbusters ever, its worth seeing for John Williams masterpiece of a score on its own.

how an you hate all things Spielberg? That's a wide sweeping gesture there... So you didn't like (or worse didnt see because of Spielberg)

    Indiana Jones
    Jaws
    E.T.
    Empire of the Sun
    Jurassic Park
    Schlinders list
    Always
The Colour Purple... The list goes on!

I'd stay at home if I was you, its mostly going to be enthusiastic hardcore fans at this who won't want to be dealing with Spielberg negativity, they will smell the bad vibes from you and hunt you down.

....catch it on TV some time. :)

Raiders of the Lost Ark + Last Crusade + Spielberg = Legend
    (Can't wait for their re-release).

Caught this yesterday. Forgotten how great this film was and was really nice to see it on the big screen.

Noticed that IFCO gave this a 12A rating. Anyone else think that's a bit low? I mean there's a lot of blood and some pretty graphic moments.

It was the first pg13 movie iirc

No, the first PG-13 rating was in 1984. The MPAA created it in response to Temple of Doom. And the BBFC only created its 12 rating several years later in response Batman.

As a result the Jaws rating has changed a lot over the years. The BBFC rated it PG on VHS, but later bumped it to 12 once that rating was available. And the IFCO rated it 15 on DVD but have now dropped it to 12A.

growl? what scene? it does in Jaws 4 :pac: roars like a friggin T-Rex

if you mean the scene after Brody blows it up and its sinking then thats deliberate, Spielberg put a sound effect from The Lost World (the 1925 one) in as the sharks carcass is sinking, its also the sound of the truck in Duel.

appalling quality aside its at 4mins 50 into this:

Before that I think he does. Maybe it was the 'growl' of the boat's motor in it.
Anyone else notice the shooting stars in the background? I spotted two of them in quick succession. Never noticed them before on a small screen.

yeah just after the Indianapolis speech, another Spielberg trademark. He doesnt seem to do it anymore though. People talking over each other is the other thing thats used a lot in Jaws, like when Brody and Hooper are both on the phone during the 4th of July sequence, I love when Brody is on the beach just before Alex Kitner is killed and he's watching the water as the guy with grey hair is talking to him, and you completely miss what he says even though his face fills half the screen because you, like Brody, are concentrating on whats going on over his shoulder, simple but brilliant technique.

I love that bit. The whole time I was thinking from Brody's perspective, "Yeah yeah shaddup a minute would ya? I'm trying to think!"

Isnt it brilliant, its so simple, you forget how well written Jaws is, its got some genuinely funny parts in it. like Quints constant singing and the comparing scars part. Its one of the best examples of how to pace a three act movie ever as well. and its repsonsible for Bryan Singers production company name :pac: actually I remember reading an Empire issue a few years ago when Spielberg was the guest editor or it was a tribute to him or something, and Singer asked what the deal was with the jarring edit during Hooper examining Chrissie's remains, that bugged me for years I'm glad someone else spotted it :pac:

Anyone know why this has been re-released now? I presumed it had gotten the automatic 3D buggering all classics are now in danger of, but apparently not…
38th anniversary isn’t usually a cause for special release either…not that I’m complaining mind.

A rumbling roar/growl? Yes that was always there for some of the earlier attacks. That effect was made a little easier to hear since the remastering of the sound for the 25th anniverary edition of the dvd onwards. Was not so obvious in earier dvd releases f the film or in the original cinematic run.

Will also be in the blu ray release of the film which will come out in late August in Ireland and on the 3rd Sept in the UK.

It has been re released in the cinema because it comes out on blu ray for the first time at the end of the summer.

blu-ray release, same as Jurassic Park and hopefully E.T later in the year, fair play to Universal for doing it, if Paramount rereleased the Indy trilogy later in the year I'd cream myself.

Speaking of E.T., I'm actually looking forward to watching the original theatrical version on Blu-ray. I refuse to let my eyeballs be mauled by the Special "Walkie Talkie" Edition that's currently on DVD. *shudder*

Only about 15 when I went to see it, but it was an afternoon show on a (very sunny I might ad!) Monday which is far from peak cinema time.

I have the three disc dvd that had the original and bastardised one, apparently the guns are back in for the blu-ray. problem with all these retouched editions like ET and the special editions of the Star Wars prequels is cgi ages worse than practical effects. I was watching Return of the Jedi the other night and the cgi Sarlacc looks appalling these days, whereas the model and practical work in the finale still looks great.

Has to be said - fair play to Spielberg for releasing both versions and letting the viewers decide which version they want to watch.

    George Lucas should take note...

The 3-disc limited edition DVD with the theatrical cut of E.T. is out of print and has been for a while. I couldn't find it anywhere when I went looking for it a couple of years ago. So while it was nice that Spielberg made it available initially, the "walkie talkie" version of the film ended up taking precedence.

Thankfully, however, for the Blu-ray Spielberg has abandoned the SE version altogether. Only the theatrical cut is included.

exactly, I'll never buy Star Wars on blu-ray, inserting the "nooooo!" into Jedi was just....ugh, ruining the best part of the movie.

You should be banned from the film forum. Never seeing Jaws
My wife never saw jaws until a few years ago. I had to sit her down and make her watch it and she loved it!

TLDR: If you don't like Jaws, there's something wrong with you.

there was a good few at it when I went and about 1/3 of them were under 12. Some with parental figures others just there, and very well behaved!

God it was amazing! Forgot how good it was, though I did only watch it about 6mths ago. I reckon I will catch it again before it leaves.

Went to see it this evening and had great fun! Actually spotted some bits that I've never noticed while watching it on tv. There was a large family group sitting behind us and it was quite funny hearing the kids screeching when Jaws came out of the water. Nothing like passing a great movie along the generations! :D

About 30 at our showing in Movies@Swords.
