    Promo Trailer

NBC recently announced that Go On will premiere on Wednesday, August 8, following Olympic Games coverage. The show will then move to its regular timeslot of Tuesdays at 9pm from 11th of September 2012

Perry hasnt had any luck with shows since Friends ended and this kinda has a Community vibe and feel to it so hopefully it will be good

i'ts a shame because I actually did like Studio 60 on the Sunset strip and Mr. Sunshine even though they are all the same wise ass characters

    I really liked it.
    Oozes potential.
Very much reminded me of the Community pilot...

Well, this has been added to my watchlist. Really liked the pilot episode; had the right amount of laughs and touching moments, plus I do like Matthew Perry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,180 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Yep, very "Community-esque" but I liked it.

Perry is essentially playing Chandler before Monica hammered the humour out of him - but no complaints from me!

You ever see Studio 60? I think he's much closer to the character he played there rather than Chandler.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

Funny story about Matthew Perry always being Chandler-esque...
It was actually a friend of his who read the pilot for Friends and was auditioning for the role of Chandler, and he rang Perry up and said hey, this character is basically you - sarcastic and whatnot... and asked him to give him tips on how to audition for the role, so Perry did this, but afterwards was thinking, hey if this guy is so similar to me then why don't I audition for the role myself...
And the rest of course is history...

Point I was making if Matthew Perry comes across as being very Chandler sometimes, that's just how Matthew Perry is in general... and he gets those roles because he's so natural at it...

Anyway, Go On has just become the show I'm most excited about this season...

Solid pilot. Not sure I see where this show can go week after week.

Second episode out and still pretty enjoyable.

Yeah liked the second episode too.
Think it has longevity for sure - the cast is fantastic.

If Community goes down the drain, at least Go On might replace it.

    Sleeper hit.....next Community.

Think Perry has a hit here, all the cast are great tbh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,180 ✭✭✭✭Basq

    It's good.. but patchy enough!

Community was patchy until it hit it's stride after a few episodes. Hopefully this will do the same.

I've enjoyed the first two episodes of this.
I think the style of it lends itself to having a few scrubs like heart-string pulling episodes so that in itself is enough to keep me in:)

    dont see it myself :D

I'm really enjoying this show. Some quite funny moments and touching ones too. Matthew Perry is brilliant so far in it.

Just after watching the pilot; loved it!! Very Communityesque indeed.

Have to say that the latest episode was something of a dud. There were some nice character moments and it was all very sweet but laughs were thin on the ground.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,850 ✭✭✭FouxDaFaFa

I've just watched the first 5 episodes of this and really enjoyed them. I read this thread beforehand and was a bit confused about people saying it was like Community but I get it now. I've always been a big fan of Matthew Perry and I like him in this. I think it could be great if it settles into itself a bit more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,129 ✭✭✭✭expectationlost

    he see dead people now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,180 ✭✭✭✭Basq

I don't know.... while I like it, I'm not really laughing at much as I'd like to.

I've gotten more laughs from the first 2 episodes of ABC's "The Neighbors" that I got in the first 5 episodes of this.

That plus the test scene with the group's head was so cringeworthy... what test authority would allow a group of randomers to come in and sit around someone taking a test in a circle?

The pilot was definitely the best episode - everything since has been patchy IMO!

Just watched the first 5 eps of this based on the forums recommendation and I must say it's really good and somewhat unique. Perry is very good and it's nice to see him get a good role for once.

Guess the best way to look at it is that it's not a laugh-out-loud comedy that does focus on character progression more than laughs. It's not saying that there aren't any, because there are, but that there aren't a massive amount. It's good to have another comedy that doesn't treat you like an idiot and force feed you laughs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

I liked how the pilot was somewhat dark. 'March Sadness' made me lol. I hope there's a bit more of that to come but overall I'm liking it a lot, it's extremely watchable if you know what I mean. The characters are really interesting.

It has got a full season pick up

I've such a backlog of stuff I'm getting sketchy. I'll have to start dropping shows soon. Last episode I saw was the Wedding one. It's OK. I'm enjoying it but not as much as I should I think. I'd say it's a slow burner really but it looks like it's definitely got legs and, as was said, it's been picked up now so it's got plenty of time to get into it's stride.

Watching the new episode and while I like the show to a degree I'm not sure that I enjoy it. There are now where near enough laughs and while shows such as MASH work as a Dramedy, Go On just seems like it's trying far too hard to be funny and serious and never really gets the mixture right.

Really do not like the whole talking with his dead wife stuff. It reeks of desperation on the writers part to try and added some extra gravitas to the show but instead comes across as just plain odd. I keep expecting him to break into song and then discover he has a brain aneurysm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,180 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Exactly my stance on it Darko...

.. while I enjoy 'dramedy', this just takes it to a new level.

The first episode was great but it's been losing my attention since.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 16,659 ✭✭✭✭dahamsta

I've liked it up to this episode, hoping it was just an aberration. Some great characters in the show and Perry's character has been much less annoying than I was expecting. Be a shame to waste them all by sliding into trad dramady stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,027 ✭✭✭✭titan18

Yup, I never really got the appeal of it from the start, and have been watching as I have nothing else to watch on a Wednesday. It's not horrible, but there aren't too many laughs in it.

As much as I hate to interrupt this circle-jerk of negativity, I still rate this as one of the most promising shows on television, and definitely still my favourite new show of the season.

Were not being negative for the sake of it but the show has so much potential and could really be something special but it never does anything with it. Every episode has a number of memorable moments and there's been ample chances for it to become the next Community or even possibly deliver the same mix of comedy and drama that MASH pulled off but sadly each week I'm left disappointed by it. Really wish that the writers would either embrace the drama or comedy aspects and run with it rather than try to exist in both worlds.

I think it's a fine show and something that's executed better than I'd expected but it's just not on my go to list. It hangs around my unwatched shows list and is close to the top in the 'ah I've nothing else really good left' list. It's no 'The New Normal' or 'Neighbors' anyway.

Just after watching episode 8 and it's easily the best one in awhile. There were some decent laughs and the sentimentality didn't fell so forced. It's yet to find it's footing but on the basis of episode 8 it's beginning to.

That was an excellent episode. Very funny and sentimental, without pushing it down your throat. The only show that got this right was the excellent episode from Community, Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas.

I watched all of this show this week after someone blogged about it on my tumblr. I love it! Matthew Perry is great in it, but I think Anne is the best character. I love her bitterness

I quite enjoy this, it's nothing special but it's a nice, easy watch every week.

I'd peg Mr. K as one of the funniest characters on TV at the moment. The episode focused on him a couple of weeks ago was comical, the Poppins bit in particular, and "AWKWARD" got the biggest LOL from me out of any show in ages.

I love Mr K too! That Mary Poppins episode made me lol quite a bit and I rarely actually lol if you get what I mean

Season finale there last night, did anyone keep up?....how was the season overall?
I'm not 100% up on its renewal chances but the gist is it has a good chance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,180 ✭✭✭✭Basq

I watched them all but wouldn't be sorry to see it go..

.. it's entertaining but not LOL funny either.

I gave up a while ago and don't miss it at all

Think the last episode I saw was the Thanksgiving one and tbh I haven't been the least bit bothered to watch the rest. I enjoy it for what it is but it's neither funny enough or dramatic enough to be anything other than a time filler. There's loads of potential in the concept and I really hope that if they get a second season they do something a little more with it.

i think its pretty good, keep matthew perry in this lest he make a worse show
