Muscle ache

Exercise regularly - usually 3 - 4 times per week.
So I'm not exactly new to exercise but for example the last two days I have played tag rugby and last nite ran 6k and did some weights in the gym.
My muscles really ache today I'm crippled trying to walk, even turning in the bed was sore last nite.
I did stretch and take a protein shake after my workouts....

    Would using tiger balm help?
Or is there something else I should be doing.....

    Thanks :)

Were those workouts ones you wouldn't normally do?

Probably just DOMS if your just getting back into it.

I felt the exact same way this week, as I have done zillions of times after a tough session. Couldn't lie on my back because my glutes were fcuking fried, or on my side or anything without serious ouchies! It really is just DOMS. You'll be grand in a day or two. What works best of me is just hitting the gym again the next day and ploughing through a session - maybe it's psychological but it really does help. I'd foam roll/stretch too but tbh I'm not sure it makes a whole lot of difference to the actual pain side of it! Foam rolling when your legs are like that is a bit like medieval torture!

Nothing gets rid of doms but a time (a day or two). Its normal, and proof you worked hard. I still get it when I do a different or particularly hard session, just like Raven says. If Im suffering, I usually do a different workout to the one that caused it (swim instead of running etc) it can help to loosen everything out and the actual exercise has a pain reducing effect anyway.

It'd the blood flow going back into the muscle and flushing out any waste products in the muscle. Lighter weight. higher reps usually sorts it out.

Thanks everyone for the replies. :)
Tag Rugby is seasonal - so yes I haven't actually played it since last year. That makes sense but just thought that I had good variation in my workouts, I led myself to believe that something new wouldn't affect me as much.

Think running is out of the question this evening, as I am walking around work with what looks like a limp I am that stiff. Thought the whey protein shake would give me a little more help too.

I might try and push through the pain and just try to do a light workout this evening and then go to the pool to relax my muscles and swim to maybe loosing me up abit.

Basically the stiffness is your body adapting to something new or something you haven't done in a while.

Get out tonight and do SOMETHING. But keep it light. Some physical activity will help you get over the hump quicker. Worst thing you can do is sit around tbh!

Should be in the gym by 5

Exercise the pain away (some of it I hope at least)

    Thanks everyone

I find a long hot shower or a sauna help with the DOMS a lot. Some stretching or cardio is a good alternative on DOMS days.

I find that ice bath works better for me than hot one :)
