That's strange, I was only thinking how it would be good if all the rides by Boards members could be put on one map of Ireland to see what areas are untouched and how over time we could try and fill it up.

    cool little feature.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 650 ✭✭✭jimm

A similar feature is available in Garmin Training Centre. Click "View" and then "View in Google Earth" to see one or more of your rides in G.E.

Can be very slow though if loading multiple rides, I think I did it with 3 or 4 months of spins and it took several minutes to load.

Pity it ignores the privacy feature in Strava.

Interesting. Is that more Strava's failure?

It's a bit of a hole in their system IMHO.

Hi guys, I'm the developer of this mapping program. Thanks for your kind words about the site. What kind of issues are you seeing with the privacy features?

Hi there, thanks for posting. I have some hidden areas set up in my Strava profile, such as where I live and work, but when I do the overlay with your site they are not hidden. I tried this both logged in and not logged in with Strava.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,318 ✭✭✭✭Raam

It's a really cool idea, BTW. I like it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3 jokeeffe

Hi Raam, it definitely shouldn't be showing the hidden areas. Would you mind posting or PM-ing me your Strava ID so I can check it out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,318 ✭✭✭✭Raam

    Thanks for looking into this.

For the benefit of everyone else... (thanks to jokeeffe for this info)

Strava's documentation says that the privacy filter will hide the location if the ride starts or ends near the hidden location. Many of my rides would pass through the hidden zones, rather than starting or ending there, so that is probably why they are being displayed.

Yeah, this is standard, and I'm not fond of it. Many of my rides would call in at friends' houses, and I'd prefer to be able to hide that. All I can do is stop the ride and start it again when I leave.

Strava's documentation says that the privacy filter will hide the location if the ride starts or ends near the hidden location. Many of my rides would pass through the hidden zones, rather than starting or ending there, so that is probably why they are being displayed.

Up until mid May there was a bug where the API would return the whole ride and ignore privacy. That has since been fixed.

If someone wants to find out where you live, they can just look for the big hole in your map. For better privacy I suggest putting the privacy zone on a house a couple blocks away. Thus you're not at the center of the hole.

Also, you guys may be interested in http://raceshape.com Lets you see where you lost the time on the Strava segments.

Wow, that is a powerful piece of software - amazing that you can see your weaknesses so clearly on screen.

And thats the problem with Strava, isn't it................now you have to go out and try all over again with this extra info to consider......!!!

love the reshape, shows im good on less steep stuff anyway, kept losing time at base of steep part before reeling bit in.
