Hi just wondering is this a good tv and good price?

    http://www.currys.ie/Product/TOSHIBA-46TL963B-Full-HD-46andquot-LED-3D-TV/313271/339.0?utm_source=homepagelargebanner1&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=ToshibaTV7June

Its a TOSHIBA 46TL963B Full HD 46" LED 3D TV and also says its a Smart tv.

Dont know too much about tv's and what everything means but on the look out for a while.

    Thanks in advance.

I just recently bought a Toshiba 42 3d smart TV... Had nothing but trouble with it, sent it back and got an lg ... currys / PC world .. 42 3d smart... Much smarter than the Toshiba! Much better 3d and it allows you to view anything as 3d ..the Toshiba only allows 3d media... Roughly paid the same for both and currys now give a 50 euro voucher so win win... I've done my research and would highly recommend the lg over the Toshiba models

I notice they're offering free delivery and wall installation, with any TV 46" or over, if you buy a stand or bracket as well: http://www.currys.ie/aspx/homepage.aspx

Would recommend you do a bit of research yourself....this model comes in 40 and 46" size, and it does support 2d to 3d conversion, so whatever series TV you have, it's not from this range. This is an excellent TV for the price, you won't get better for the money. It's an active 3D set and the quality is superb - I was watching Avatar earlier on my TV, which is the one this thread is about, and it's the best 3D I've seen on a TV in the sub 1K bracket. Better than my LG set with active 3D, incidentally.

This particular model also scored excellently in professional reviews.

    Hi Folks,

the TV have a DVB-S & S2 you will not need any sat box anymore
    and converter 2D to 3D

I have only 1 question, do you know any cheap compatible active glasses?

I see no mention of a DVB-S(2) tuner?

Also, Freesat has nothing to do with Saorview, one needs a dish, other is terrestrial (via aerial).

Unless im missing something, it is Freeview, not freesat. Big difference.

yes, you will just need an antenna.

Can you watch RTE player on this TV ? Has this TV got a Web browser. I found it difficult to find reviews of this TV on the internet.

What is the picture like ?? Any internet on it?

Its a very highly specced tv ,ticks most boxes.
Only worry is the average Sd performance and weak audio.

I was planning on getting a 50" Panasonic plasma but I might get this instead as Panasonic prices have gone through the roof with the new 2012 models.

It seems so but most Plasmas have a reflective screen which can cause issues in a room with sunlight or artificial lights.

As I said earlier I was planning on getting a 50" Panasonic plasma but I might get this instead as Panasonic prices have gone through the roof with the new 2012 models just released and I don't fancy waiting 6 months for them to come down to reasonable prices.

I cant find mention of LAN in any spec on the web.

Whats its upscaling of SD and 720p like?

    One review here
    http://www.trustedreviews.com/toshiba-46tl963_TV_review

SD quality seems to be poor
Turning to the 46TL963’s standard definition efforts, they’re... OK. As with the recently reviewed Toshiba 40RL953, Toshiba hasn’t included any version of its Resolution detail booster among the TV’s options. But the upscaling appears superior to that found in the RL953 model, leaving pictures looking sharper, more contrast-rich and more richly/believably coloured than they did on the cheaper Toshiba model.

Is it the ST50 you're looking at? It's not meant to be too bad as regards to reflection, better than the UT model which is a no go with daylight I read.

I was looking at this Toshiba as it is a good deal, however much longer it is on offer, but don't think I'm going to go for it. Seriously considering the Panasonic ST50, is more expensive but I'm looking at this as a 5yrs + investment, God knows if I splurged for the 50 inch model it's be a 20 year investment!

I was looking at last years models ,the ST30 and the S30 .
The UT30/50 screen is like a mirror from what I believe.

This years models are outside my budget ,the 42 inch ST50 is well over 1k,that will come down to around 600 euro within 6 months.
It looks a fabulous tv though .

Last years mid range Panasonic 42 inch TX-P42G30B (2011's range most advanced 2D-only Plasma TV) is selling for 600 euro currently on Currys
    http://www.currys.ie/Product/PANASONIC-VIERA-TXP42G30B-Full-HD-42andquot-Plasma-TV/305808/339.0
Good price but the screen doesnt have a reflective filter .

I am looking at a 50 inch so I may hold tight for a while.

Yeah, was tempted by the G30 but was put off by the reflection as well, pity. Havent looked at the ST30 so might do that.

    ok thanks..

So is anyone going for this?

Our 5 year old just broke our 46" Samsung (the one from the Argos price mistake 18 months ago on here). The TV won't register the remote any more, as she sprayed it with water to clean it. looks like the internal receiver has been damaged.. So I need to get a replacement asap.

I havent been on the look for a new TV, so am out of touch with the new LED, 3D, Smart TV functions and prices, but this does seem to be a decent price.

New to the whole smart tv area -
is what you are saying that you need another "gizmo" to make it wifi?

yep, however u can use the LAN cable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,505 ✭✭✭skinny90

For those who want a good tv and not pay more than 800 I'd go for it,its 699£ in the uk,i cant find any other led thats 3d,decent smart menu, sat tunner and saorview approaved, usb playback.
I personally think well have to wait more than 6 months for the panasonics to come down unless they have push for Xmas even then I can't see a similar spec in a 46/47 " for 699.
By the way the brother has a g30 absolutely beautiful tv for the price, the issue with reflection isn't a big issue as he was replacing a 32 " CRT

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,834 ✭✭✭Welease

Just noticed it's a Grey bezel :( Need a black TV.. pity.. Back to the drawing board.

    Thanks for that info.
I currently have an old 32" CRT Trinitron and the reflections off it drive me nuts ,I was wary of getting the G30 as its meant to be reflective too and its very difficult to test the reflections on a shop floor.

Yea I here yea if that's the case rule out plasma as mentioned before if ya have budget between 6 and 700 quid it's hard to turn it down especially for what your getting, picture quality and functionality wiae, regarding the black finish,I actually prefere it,a cheaper version of the dt50 if ya ask me

There’s little doubt that you get a lot of screen for your money with the 46TL963. Its HD performance is generally fine, the cosmetics are swish and there’s a reasonable selection of catch-up and video on demand. Just don’t buy it if you want clean 3D or need to play multimedia files across a network.

No cable on set up menu!! Just satellite and antenna...:o says in manual If dvb-c not supported in your area Cable will not be displayed!! I'm lost anyone any info??
With UPC digital cable and doesn't seem to work just have 17 stations in Atv mode

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,773 ✭✭✭bazwaldo

For UPC digital you need a set top box with scart or HDMI out. The 17 channels I assume are the UPC analogue channels.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,056 ✭✭✭✭BostonB

I assume you plug a HDMI from the UPC box into the TV's AV HDMI in. Then switch to that AV channel on the TV to see it.

Older NTL box only scart out I am trying it now but country selected from Germany
